Thanks to Roost Books and NetGalley for the review copy. Opinions are fully mine.
Tiny Stitches is a wonderfull little embroidery gem! Set up in chapters the book takes you through embroidery tips as well as how to make many designs on buttons, badges, patches and pins. There are simple designs as well as some more complex scenes and every design features how to pictures that take you through each step of the process. This is a really well thought out book that makes things very easy for the reader/embroider to get started right away. I have wanted to try to embroider a scene but have yet to attempt it because I didn't know where to start. This book is exactly what I have been waiting for!
Thanks to Net Galley and Roost Books for the advance copy!
I received Tiny Stitches from NetGalley in return for an honest review, and I'm very glad I did!
The book contains patterns for various embroidery projects, ranging from minuscule robins on a button, to a small beach scene displayed in a miniature hoop. The thing I really love about these designs is how fast they come together. They're small and quirky and even a beginner could do each of these projects in a matter of days.
The usual beginner's-guide-to-sewing stuff is included here as well, with a run down of the equipment needed and how the stitches are formed, but the focus is on how to put them together into the designs.
Tiny Stitches is a wonderful and creative way to embroider but on the small scale. I have been looking for some small projects to work during this quarantine and this book was just perfect. I have been wanting to do embroidery for a while and I thought this would be a great start, especially since it talks about making pins and I love collecting pins.
This book presents you with multiple different options for buttons, pins, badges, and patches. The instructions are fairly easy to follow but not extremely detailed so if you are a beginner or not very crafty you might have problems. The projects are not all beginner friendly either but you can always hold off on those larger designs for later. As someone who has a little experience with embroidery, but a lot with sewing, the instructions were easy to understand and the two small pins I embroidered came out pretty good.
I am excited to continue my tiny embroidery and really want to branch out into larger projects when I get more comfortable. I really want to make pins but I have to wait for the supplies to arrive, which will be a while. Overall, this was a very fun crafting book that made me excited about starting a new sewing project. I do recommend you have some experience with either sewing or embroidery before picking up this book though.
I'm a huge fan of this kind of embroidery, to be fair. I like the stuff that's more like sketching a picture than constructional (I'm not sure the term for it, but stuff like hardanger or even cross stitch, where you're making a fabric rather than drawing with thread.), and this book not only has great ideas for that, it's also totally inspirational for project types. Badges and patches and buttons -- things you don't necessarily think of first when you're itching to pick up a needle.
The badges, in particular, excited my creative brain. Yazici gives cool examples for simple designs that look complicated, but never get too fiddly, even in small sizes. I kind of want to make myself achievement badges now, just as something fun to stitch.
I love that the book has a very clear stitching guide at the end, which is great for newbies and a good refresher for old-timers. And the templates are clear, and come with a transfer guide, too.
It makes me want to go stitch things *right now*, which probably isn't good for the state of my house (housework? Pshaw...there's floss to use!), but is very good for inspiration and for directing that inspiration into making tiny projects that are quick wins. Love this book!
(p.s. Got it from netgalley, but all opinions are, obviously, my own.)
Tiny Stitches are exactly what the title promises: a collection of awesome small embroidery projects. The projects vary from 3 inch (which works well in hoops) up to 3/5 inch (16 mm) buttons. It’s ideal for a beginner, because the projects are small and doable, and you don’t need to purchase 6 strands of yarn to make a pattern, it’s small and simple and totally hip and trendy. Many teenager will want a few embroidered buttons I’m sure, they have that emoticon vibe going on. There are many cute designs, and very versatile topics! There are landscapes, cute animals, constellations, plants, I think there is something for everyone.
I can’t wait to try out a few, I fell in love with long and short stitches a while ago but I haven’t dared to take the step to try it myself (mostly because I needed to buy a lot of specific DMC yarn which costs a fortune for only a small project), but this book has made me take the step!
This book also has a how-to guide, there are pictures and steps on how to make a hoop project, patch, pin and button, and several transfer methods are discussed. There is a stitch directory, and with the example projects you see all the steps both in pictures and text. And to make things even more exciting, there are more patterns in the back of book than is shown in the pages, so that is a nice suprise!
This beautiful book of embroidery is quite divine.
20 projects with 5 sheets of iron-on transfers are small but perfectly designed.
Used as clothing embellishment they can give an edgy look to a frayed denim jacket, or a badge for your tote bag.
There is a very handy 'how to' demonstrating how to make badges and buttons, as well as a basic embroidery technique guide. But do you know what I loved most about this book..well you do not need to be a fabulous embroiderer!!
I think the more 'rustic' your work, the better these tiny projects will look.
There are lots of templates too, that can be traced, and with the addition of sequins and beads, your final piece will be the envy of every trend setter.
Each project has a 'process' to follow, with types of stitch used and colour inspiration.
The designs are all different in style and variation and each can be changed and adapted as you work your way through each of them.
This is a good way to learn new stitches and practice your embroidery without being overwhelmed with a large project.
A wonderful embroidery book in many ways. The author does an excellent job of explaining what tools to choose and why, and how to do the various stitches in the book. Each project is fully described step by step with clear and helpful accompanying photos. I was a bit disappointed that Yazici's pansy had only four petals (or do some have only four?) and delighted that her cat paws have the little "thumb" pad! My favorites, which I intend to use someday, were the bee and the floral moon. Also that cat paw appeals to me! Naturally you don't have to use these just for buttons or pins--they can be used for embellishing or as part of a larger project. Both templates and iron on transfers (the latter in an envelope firmly attached to the back cover. As a librarian who bought this book for our library system, I'm pleased about the on-the-page templates as I know those iron ones will walk away.
Recommended for beginner through intermediate embroiderers. Fine for teens and preteens who will find many designs that appeal to them.
This book contains 23 small-scale embroidery projects with step-by-step instructions. The projects range in size from small 4 inch diameter small hoops to the absolutely adorable 3/5 inch diameter buttons and pins.
In addition to the projects, there are 7 pages of templates of other designs and directions on how to make transfers of these cute designs onto fabric are included.
I would classify this book as geared towards the intermediate embroidery enthusiast, looking for new ways to incorporate embroidery into projects. While there is a stitch directory, it is included in one of the latter chapters.
I received a copy of Tiny Stitches: Buttons, Badges, Patches and Pins to Embroider by Irem Yazici through NetGalley for review.
I'm very impressed so far, it's step by step- imagery! She's going to tell you the tools, items, all thing things you need plus, how to- every step of the way through each project. And she provides you with actual projects! If you've never done embroidery before, this is a really great book. They're not super complicated, there's projects both big and small. She also provides you with templates, so there's no guesswork on the sizing. Down to how to finish each piece afterwards. It comes with a directory of stitches. How to transfer the templates and a full list of the embroidery floss numbers- so you get the exact color you need.
It's a really cute, smart- well thought out book! And the projects are really cool!
Do you want to try embroidery but want to start incredibly small? Do you just like tiny cute things? This is the book for you! Its tiny embroidery! No piece in this book is bigger than about 4 inches, and most are smaller than 1.5 inches. So many tiny cute things to make. I really like the layout of the stitch guide, and there are so many more patterns in the back than just the projects outlined in the book!
Oh, I love these little embroidered buttons! I used to embroider larger pieces, but then fell in love with cross stitch. Spotted this book and now that I've taken a look, feel the need to try something a bit more challenging! Love the patterns and can't wait to try them! Photos are used as guides for creating the items! Kudos to the author!
Some of these patterns are gorgeous. The tiny landscapes are amazing, and easy looking to accomplish., I liked the majority of the patterns, and found I had the skills to tackle most of them, especially with the helpful guide on how to pull each pattern off. More difficult is the challenge to find some of the materials required. I have yet to see a small hoop that is attractive and could be used for jewelry in my local craft stores. I have seen on few occasions things pop up in thrift stores, but nothing I could count on finding to start a project. This obviously depends on where you are, but just my local Michael's won't do the hoops pictured justice. I liked the inclusion of buttons, and instructions on how to use a button maker. I've never looked for a button maker before, but will now have to keep an eye out for one. It was really helpful to see the pictures as each pattern is worked on, and to have set instructions on how many strands of each colour to use for each part of the project. Complex looking patterns are broken down into manageable pieces and are easy to tackle. I don't usually make brooches and buttons, but the patterns could be adapted into larger works, especially the patterns with planets. This is a good place to start if you are just starting to embroider and need step by step, easy to manage projects, or are looking for a quick gift to make.
This book is just lovely, yes the embroidery makes up very tiny pictures, but they are really cute and very "must have" items. These items can be made into buttons, brooches and badges, or if you are not that confident, enlarged to make bigger embroidery pieces. But small are very beautiful, and quickly completed with very little material. The book is well presented, with 65 pages of well illustrated and detailed information and instructions. Absolutely beautiful
What a great collection of embroidery projects! I love the small scale of the projects. These would be perfect for a beginner to try their hand at embroidery without committing to a large project that may never be finished or for someone more advanced just looking for a quick project. There are plenty of cute patterns to choose among - from buttons to patches and badges to small hoop projects. I especially love the cat paw patch, tree hugger badge and desert and forest landscapes. The book includes step by step guidance for each featured pattern and a stitch guide for those not familiar with the various embroidery stitches.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read and review this fun book. All comments are my own, unbiased opinion.
I love this book! The patterns are so cute- those cat paws! Squee! There are a variety of projects to try, and the patterns could easily be used for other projects as well. The ideas in the book are perfect for gift giving or sprucing up your own stuff. While I think a beginner would probably be alright with this book- the instructions are clear, and there is a stitching guide in the back of the book- it seems a little more geared to someone who has already done a bit of embroidery. This could just be me; some of the stitches I haven't done before, and I feel like I'd need some practice to get the lovely results shown. I would definitely recommend this book!
I received a digital copy of Tiny Stitches. I must say I love embroidery and I adore this book which is full of tiny projects, tiny by size but not by detail. All projects are detailed and stitches included. It is truly a wonderful little book which I'm looking forward to buying when it's published.
Oh my goodness - I *loved* Tiny Stitches. As someone who enjoys embroidery and would consider myself as an intermediate skill level, I think Tiny Stitches would be great for a beginner. Each design is broken down by steps with pictures - making it a lot easier to follow the instructions. Irem also gives beginners and embroidery 101, stitch directory and a how to on transferring designs. Irem also gives a few other possible projects - such as: pins, buttons, patches and badges. . Something that I struggle with is finding things to do with my finished embroidery (I just tend to keep it in it's hoop). I was very excited to see tutorials on how to produce these cute projects. After finishing the book, I immediately went to buy some pin backs to create tiny pins! I'll absolutely be trying out these cute designs and am very grateful that I was allowed to check out this Galley.
Thank you to Netgalley and Roost Books for providing me with an e-copy in exchange for my honest opinion. 5/5
I received an advanced copy of this book from NetGalley.com and the publisher Roost Books. Thank you to both for giving me the opportunity to read it.
Ms. Yazici has crafted a wonderful book to broaden the horizon of the experienced and novice embroiderer alike. Beautifully photographed with concise instructions, the reader is guided through the process to make miniature works of art.
This book is full of super cute embroidery ideas! Some of the stitches I've never seen before, so I feel like a more experienced embroidery skill is needed for many of the designs, but they are lovely! And adorable... and just so tiny!! I think these patterns could easily be used for other embroidery projects. They are very versatile with a huge variety in one book. I would highly recommend to anyone interested in a little (tiny) embroidery flair! Thanks to NetGalley for an advanced peek at this book!
This was an excellent book. The descriptions were clear, and there was a range of projects that would be good for beginners as well as more advanced embroiderers. I particularly enjoyed the tiny landscapes. One thing I didn't like was that the thread was called by name instead of number in the projects descriptions, but at the end of the book the number is given. I'm definitely going to be doing a number of these projects.
