A man tortured by his past. A woman determined to save him. A deadly assignment that threatens to rip them apart.
Eight months after falling in love with Alex Slade, the Army Ranger she rescued from an infamous drug cartel, U.S. Marine Lieutenant Vivian Thorpe is approached to be his second in command of ARMOR, the first team in a new shadowy black ops section called Division Eight. She agrees but has one condition: she will only give ARMOR six months.
With the deadline fast approaching, the pair find themselves heading to Africa with their team. Their mission: to assist an undercover CIA operative who may have unearthed the hottest lead on African arms trafficking in decades. When they fail to make contact with the agent, ARMOR discovers a chain of bloody evidence that leads them across the dark continent on the trail of a notorious arms dealer who may prove to be their toughest adversary yet.
With their enemy always one step ahead of them, Alex and Vivian must ignore the growing storm inside their hearts and call on all their strength and wit to lead ARMOR on one of the most dangerous assignments they have ever undertaken.
Will they survive long enough for Vivian to convince Alex that she is the perfect woman for him?

This is a quickie review for the second book in A.D. Starrling's second installment of the Division Eight novella series. Mission: Armor is a bit of a prequel for the series as I believe it takes place prior to the first book, Mission: Black. So I don't think you would have any problem starting with this book if you are just discovering the series.
Division Eight is a team of covert operatives headed by our hero, Alex Slade. Alex is an extremely skilled operative, but he is also a tortured hero experiencing some PTSD-type dreams from his former capture and torture by a drug cartel. Alex has sought out Vivian Thorpe to be his second-in-command based on their prior history, one that saw her rescuing him from the clutches of the cartel. Vivian knew she was in trouble when she joined the team, particularly as she fell in love at first sight with Alex during that prior rescue mission.
Mission: Armor sees our Division Eight team taking on a ruthless group of international arms dealers. Once again, Starrling does not disappoint. There were an abundance of thrilling action sequences that kept me turning the page as quickly as possible, in addition to well-researched military and geographical aspects. One of my favorite things about Starrling's writing is that her female characters are just as kickass as the males, sometimes even more so. The female operatives that are part of Division Eight don't want (or need) a man saving them... but neither do they walk around with a chip on their shoulder. In turn, the male team members have the utmost respect for their female teammates and don't try to undermine their abilities by butting their nose in where its not wanted. I love how the team works as a cohesive unit, with certain pairs seeming to anticipate each other's moves before they happen.
I did miss Tristan Payne in this installment, but I enjoyed watching Gaby and Abraham pick at one another and I think that they will be a lot of fun once they are finally paired together.
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy of this book that I received from the author. As always, one of my favorite aspects of the story is Starrling's Facts and Fictions section at the end of the book (before the teaser chapter of Haunted). This author does her research extremely well but conveys technical, historical and scientific information in a way that makes it interesting to the reader without being too complicated for a fiction story. I can't wait for the next Division Eight novella.
This book introduces you to U.S. Marine Corps Lieutenant Vivian Thorpe; months after rescuing Army Ranger Alex Slade, she is offered to be his second in command in Division Eight's new ARMOR team.
With Mission: ARMOR, A.D. Starrling has created an action-packed thriller centred on Rachel Carter - the promising first novella in the 'A Division Eight Thriller' series. It is a compelling read, drawing you into Alex and Vivian's team. A.D. Starrling paints a clear picture of Vivian's mind while the story evolves. There are many facets: depending on the situations, she is vulnerable, strong, hot-headed, or clear-minded, she is of sufficient depth. The other characters are described as required; you learn enough about them as well. The story comprises combat scenes, interesting turns, and has a good flow.
This is a book for you if you like fast-paced thrillers, combat, covert operations, two characters falling for each other in secret, and if you like believable characters with a mission.
I was surprised how good this story was. I have read others by the author so expected the story to be good, but I really liked this one. It is a novella that kind of reads like the year in a life of Vivian and Alex. They meet in the beginning as Vivian heads a team to rescue Alex and then the rest of the book follows them 6 months after joining Division eight. I loved that it had just enough action and a touch of mystery to it to keep me reading it in one sitting. I loved the one liners that the team made to reference their past and everyone would groan. My honest review is - if you like thrillers that are relatively clean, full of action, and humor as they run around the world trying to make the world safe, then this is a book to read. I was hooked after the first chapter and laughed at a few spots.
I received an ARC of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review. The second book in the Division Eight series is as fast paced and exciting as the first. New characters in this one, but just as engaging as in the first. A D Starrling is a fabulous scene setter, you can really see what is happening through her words on the page. Loved this one and can't wait to see where she is going with the series. Not the longest of books, but it flows well as it follows them through the mission, and I don't think the story would benefit from being padded out into a longer story. Great ending, I really like that humour is injected into any scene. This doesn't detract from the tension in the story but makes it a thoroughly emjoyable read.
Book two in the Division Eight series.I quiet enjoyed this book, if you've read Mission Black, the first in the series, you will find this just as good and fast paced. The story goes back to the begging of how Division Eight was established. Join Alex Steele and Vivian as leader and xo in a CIA and Black ops type operation to bring down the bad men of weapons trading . Very well written and easy to read, hard to put down.I was given this book free, for an honest review. A must read for all CIA , coded mission fans, and if your not, like me, you'll still thoroughly enjoy it, can't wait for another Division Eight epic.
I just finished A D Starrling's book 'Mission: Armor'. It's a story about a black ops team that has 6 people from different specialties. It's something along the line of Mission Impossible but with more hootzpa if that makes sense. I found it to be very intriguing and a bit humorous. The characters were very put together with their own unique personalities and talents that made them a very cohesive group. I think this series of stories because I would be disappointed if there weren't, would make great made for TV movies. Provided they get the right actors. I would definitely watch it. Great job A D. Cheers Lynn
This is a great military romance. There is plenty of action, travel and romantic tension. Alex and Vivian have never forgotten the first time they actually met. Now they are working together as the leaders of a super secret black ops team. The story and characters are so relatable and realistic. I loved the way they would joke and cut up together until it comes down to work. Then all jokes aside, they are an awesome team. They trust each other and know someone has their back. Gaby could use some time at the gun range, but she is great at her job. This is a fast paced book that you won't want to put down. I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
I really enjoyed this book. It jumps in with a compelling rescue mission and then follows up with a wide-open circumstance that allows the development of not only the main characters but of a supporting ensemble set of characters that not only help move the story but create a family feeling within the cast. The story is fast paced and ranges from typical American backdrops to some well researched and authentic feeling areas of the world. This latest from A. D. Starrling is a fun and entertaining look into action drama, and covert operations. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy of this book that I received from the publisher.
A woman knows what she wants but a man is stubborn and slow to figure it out. Vivian Thorpe joins the team with a deadline set not long after rescuing Alex Slade. The whole team works really well together, especially under great pressure. There are LOL moments with the bantering and teasing throughout this whole book. The men are tough but the women are kick-arse. There is definitely no dull moments with this team. I fell in love with A.D. Starrling's writing with The Seventeen Series and now Division Eight series is drawing me in even more.
I always enjoy books secret missions, and this one was great. The characters are well written, with unique personalities. It is a fast paced tale in a distant locale with just enough suspense to keep you reading. I easily read it in one sitting. It is a quick read so it would be great to take along on a trip. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy of this book that I received from the publisher.
Wow! Lots of action in this book! Very detailed and exciting, edge of my seat, can't wait to see what happens book! Could not put it down, I can't wait to see what happens in the next book. **I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy of this book that I received from the publisher.
A well written excellent book! Although it is not the type of book I usually read , you have lots of action, humor and a bit of romance. Alex and Vivian make a good team. Abraham and the rest of the are the frosting on the cake and a well oiled working machine.
Outstanding read! Author AD Starrling again expands her literary world with this one continuing the storyline began in the first book. Everything she’s written that I’ve read has been outstanding & this new work doesn’t disappoint. I look forward to the next book.
Alex was rescued by Vivian from an infamous cartel, now he wants her to be his second in command. Fantastic story that keeps you intrigued until the very end. Received an ARC and reviewing because I loved the book
I enjoyed this story. it was interesting and kept me on the edge of my seat... it was fast paced and the characters were lovable and so much fun. i am glad i got to review this
I really loved this book. If you read the first Division Eight book, then you know this takes place before Mission: Black and is really tells of the start of the first Division Eight team. The story really engaged me from the beginning and held my interest throughout the story. There is a lot of action throughout the book and the banter between the characters is fun and entertaining. The only downside to this book is that it is that I wished it was longer because I enjoyed it so much.
If you've liked other books by A.D. Starrling, you won't be disappointed. This is a fun, quick read.
