Together, Laura, Mary, and Carrie play games, find mischief, and explore the wild as they travel and settle throughout the Midwest. Join in the fun with everyone's favorite pioneer sisters!
Ingalls wrote a series of historical fiction books for children based on her childhood growing up in a pioneer family. She also wrote a regular newspaper column and kept a diary as an adult moving from South Dakota to Missouri, the latter of which has been published as a book.
I liked pioneer sisters even though it was really short. I thought that the author did a good job describing what each new home they moved to was like. I like that the author added not only the good memories but also the bad once like when Laura was in town and she took to many pebbles and her pockets broke and so she cried and when Laura got mad at Mary so she slapped her. I also liked how the author used story's to describe what Laura and her family is like. Some of the stories that the author used to describe their personality are when their father was chasing Laura and Mary and they got caught in the corner so Laura pulled her older sister up and over the big chest that was in the way. Another story is when Laura and Mary played on the hay their father said not to play on. All in all this book was really.

Pioneer Sisters by Laura Ingalls Wilder is about Laura and her 2 sisters Mary is the oldest and Carrie is the Youngest. One Morning her Aunt Lotty was coming over and Laura and Mary was fighting over who had the best curls and Aunt Lotty came over and they asked her and of course she said they both look amazing like what any aunt would say. Around where they live they would cut down the animals habitat for people to build houses. Pa decided that he was going to move out west so the Ingalls packed there bags and said goodbye and on there way to Kansas. Where the lived in Kansas there was a Prairie next to them and it was very empty there was some lakes and there was some trees by the lakes. Laura and Mary always found something to do at the Prairie like hunted for birds. The best fun was chasing the gophers they lived in little holes all over the Prairie. One day they went to the Prairie and saw a tall pile of straw Laura ran straight into it she began to climb then she slid down she kept going then her dad yelled at her because he just did that so he did it again and told Laura and Mary to not go into it they said okay. Then later Laura and Mary went to the Prairie and Laura went really close to the pile and Mary stopped her then Laura smelt it and it smelled amazing and told Mary to take a smell Laura looked up and she wanted to reach that blue sky so she started to climb the stack and she got to the top and then rolled down and Mary said what are you doing and Laura said he never said we can't roll down then they both did it over and over again then after they were down the went back to the house. There pa went DID YOU GO IN THE STRAW STACK and they lied he said it again DID YOU GO IN THE STRAW STACK and they lied again. Christmas was around the corner and Mary and Laura wanted horses for Christmas if they got that they could not get anything else so that is what they asked for and for there little sister they knitted a little string with special beads on it but they barely got it done in time then on Christmas Morning they all got what they wanted. The theme for this month is historical fiction and the reason this book connects to the theme is because it is about Laura life but just not the actully real people. I rate this book a 5 star because it gave lots of detail and lots of stories. I recommened this book to however likes historical fiction and hear about peoples lives.
Pioneer Sisters by Laura Ingalls Wilder was about Laura and Mary's family that live in the country they go on a trip to town. They were so exited they went to the store and the kids got heart candy they were amazed. The family had Christmas and they got horses and candy. They had a great Christmas at there house. The next day they were sliding down the hay stack and pa yelled at them he said ''the cows will be hungry stop.'' There was a fire so they had to move. There was also a chapter where it talks about Laura and Mary's curls. And more. It connects to the theme because it really is how they did things back then they just made up names. I rate it 3 stars because it was ok but it was not really my favorite. I recommend this book to anyone who likes to learn about the past. That is what Pioneer Sisters is about.
My Review: I really enjoy this chapter book series and how it breaks down the original series in easy to read short chapter books. This one focused on the sister relationships between Laura, Mary and Carrie. I like how it highlighted not only the great moments of friendship but also some of the not so great moments. Young readers will be able to relate as they play and fight with their own siblings. It will also be great to show how little kids had and how they had to find fun on their own. While this is about little girls, I think that it has something for everyone.
This is BY far my favorite book in my reading collection. I picked this book becasue I read little house on the praire books when I was a little girl. I think that I was shocked to see how short the book was, because I recall the book being rather long when I was younger. I cant wait to use this in my future classroom.
The story is told about three little girls living their lives back in the old days. Their names were Laura, Mary, and Carrie they all played games, find mischief, and explore the wild as they travel and settle throughout the Midwest. It tells the story of them and their family moving and seeing new things. The book had a few pictures that did help you understand what was happening in the story.
I’m reading through this series with my seven-year-old, and we are both thoroughly enjoying it! Each book collects stories from the entire Little House series on a theme — sisters, animal stories, etc. Cecily asks me to buy the next in the series before we’ve finished the one we’re currently reading. Highly recommend this one for bedtime reading/read-alouds with chapter book aged kids.
I'm a huge fan of the Little House books. This chapter book was the perfect length for reading aloud to my kids! It wasn't always peace and harmony in their life either - their disagreements make them very relatable even though they lived so many years ago!
Pioneer Sisters (Little House and the big woods Chapter books: Laura, #2) by Laura Ingalls Wilder is about a little family in a big woods, how life was back then and how they survived. They all lived with their ma and pa in a little gray house made of logs and all around the house and all Mary and Laura could see was trees. By the way Mary is the oldest sister and Laura is the middle child and Carrie is the baby. They had nobody to play with except each other and their bulldog Jack, every once and a while their pa would go to town. Mary and Laura were never aloud to go to town with pa but they were this year, they got bathed by their ma and whore their nicest dresses they had. After town dad brought up a big pile of hay for the horses so they could eat in the winter. Laura had a idea, she climbed the hay mound and jumped and bounced so high that Mary had to do it too. For a while Mary and Laura were jumping but the hay pile kept getting lower and lower to the ground. At the end the hay was all smashed and gone. Their pa had to pile the hay all again and said don't jump on the hay, Laura claimed up the hay pile again. "Pa said don't jump on the hay" Mary said "I'm not jumping I'm sliding" and she slid down the hay. They slid down the hay until it was gone and there pa said they were not aloud on the hay again. I give this book 4 stars because it was really good I loved how it was just a simple and basic book to read whenever you'd like to. I recommend this book to readers that like history, life back then and just a basic book to read.
Personal reaction: I like this book because it shows how family members support each others, and how the parents treated their daughters equally, like when they gave them a Chrisms present, they gave each daughter six pieces of candy.
Read aloud for children at first, second, and third grades. They will learn how people used to live and types of materials they have, such as the wagon track, heated the water to take a bath once a week, and types of clothes they wear. They also could learn about types of animals that live in the wood like dears, bears, and rabbits.
Independent reading:
Children at fifth grade and up can read it alone. They will learn that they should follow their parents order like “when the father told Mary and Laura do not come near the straw stack.” Also, they will learn that they should not be mean to others and said some words that hurt the person feelings like “when Mary tell her sister Laura that having golden hair is better than brown hair and people like it more.”
This book has many good words that a child could learn like bounced, whistled, and buttoned. The illustration is wonderful, and there are some pictures that show how the charterers felt like when Laura and Mary were happy running after the rabbits to catch them, and when they were rolling down on the straw stack.
I really like these books; they are word for word from the 'bigger' original Little House books but more shortened to make the chapters not as long or the book as long for beginning readers to chapter books. Also they took chapters or events from several of the Little House books that all related to one another to put together these books in this series.
In this one it was various ones about Mary and Laura just being sisters out on the prairie. Some of the chapters came out of Book 1, 2 and 3 of the original Little House books. So as you read you can see the relationship the girls had with themselves and their little sister Carrie and with their parents and their pets (horses and Jack the bulldog). Very good collection of chapters help make this book a nice one to read.
I read this out loud to my 4 year old daughter and we loved it! She is really into Little House on the Prairie, but she is still a little young for the full books. This series is great because it's a step in between the Little House picture books and the unabridged series. This one has focuses on Mary and Laura's relationship-each chapter a different story- and it is very cute. I love that they are so true to the books--they just feel like someone picked out some of the best stories from the series and edited them just enough to make them accessible to younger readers. We can't wait to read more!
Read this with my mom's afterschool reading program (I was helping out). It's a collection of chapters from the Little House books all having to do with a specific theme - in this case, sisters.
I think this format makes for a good introduction to the series for younger readers who might be intimidated by the full-size volumes! The girls enjoyed it and it was fun coming up with activities to go along with the stories.
This book was very cute, but I wouldn’t give this to anyone to read. I would much rather have them read the actual Little House books because they are fairly easy to read in the first place. But the sentence structures were easy enough for girls who are trying out chapter books. I think girls would rather read this book than boys because the main characters are girls.
I remember it as my first chapter book, and I was so proud of myself to finish. After about 7 years I still remember title like it was yesterday, mostly because this book meant so much to me. It was a huge achievement in my eyes, and the morals of the story stuck with me through out life.
Laura and her sister Mary went to town with their Mama and Papa. They went to go trading for some stuff and they got candy. They also went over by the lake and found beautiful pebbles.
The book The Pioneer Sisters was a really good book. My favorite part was when Laura was trying to be better then her sister because I know what it feels like when you are not perfect like sister.
MD read this aloud to me. She gave it 5 stars. I gave it 4. We both love learning the history of that time period and how differently things were done. A few of the stories made us giggle.
This small children's book is a cute retelling of the Little House books for very young children. I liked it very much. I'm going to read about all of Wilder's adventures.
