No one asks to live life on the edge, but after spending almost half his life running away, Ezra is doing just that. When a night of partying and watching out for his best friend Jake lands him at the feet of a beautiful, damaged girl, he finds himself torn between the mayhem of living each day like it’s his last, and the possibility of real love and home.

The girl, Mayyim, has lived through the worst. A product of a dysfunctional home, rife with abuse, she knows it’s time to go, and she knows Ezra can keep her safe and help her outrun her past. But things aren’t easy and taking care of Jake is another story altogether.

Can they find the solace they seek or will the hardships they’ve faced continue to wreak havoc on them?

Mercedes Siler

Mercedes Siler writes gritty, steamy new adult fiction and romance about beautifully flawed people finding their way in life and falling in love in the process. She is the author of a few awesome New Adult short stories and a couple of pretty cool full-length novels. And she’s got about a million more just waiting to be written.

Mercedes lives in beautiful, hot, Southern California with her loving husband and the three best kids a lady could ask for, two cats, Burger and Little Jimmy, and a Guinea pig named Sandy.

She looks forward to getting to know readers on the social medias, and having stirring discussions about funny memes, basic human rights, and her hate for washing dishes.

Sacha's Book Reviews Blog

Among relationships, random sex, budding parenthood, runaways, drug addicts, kiddie porn, and incest and molestation so casual and commonplace it is its own character in the book, Ezra "Easy" and his best friend Jake "Love" both endure their first real loves and turn from boys to men in this novel.

The fresh, resplendently rambling narration hops from one thing to the next, and still flows so beautifully to weave a story that is original and heart-wrenching and darkly funny all at once. All of the main characters are physically visible to the reader, practically leaping off the page.

I don't even know how to categorise this book -- it's part Young Adult, part Erotica, part Action, part Drama. I can't remember the last time I read a book cover to cover in one sitting, nor can I remember the last time I gave a 5 star rating. I thoroughly enjoyed it, and feel like my life has shifted somewhat, by the time I was finished. This is exactly what a novel is supposed to do. Can't wait to read more from this author.

I already knew I loved Mercedes Siler's style, but Easy reminded me why. She propels you right into the action. There's no "writing in" or gradual build-up: you are instantly thrown, headfirst, into the characters' lives from that very first page.

Ezra, Mayyim, and Jake (God, how I love Jake) are three incredibly broken young people on the cusp of independence and adulthood, clawing their way out of the trenches their parents dug for them. On the surface it sounds like they've made bad choices, but really they've just done what they needed to in order to survive. Your heart pounds for them, breaks for them, and rejoices for them when they finally get hints of happiness and the lives they deserve.

Like most people, when I hear "new adult" I automatically think of romance, but I would categorize this more as a New Adult coming-of-age novel. While there is a love story between Ezra and Mayyim (and a happy ending), the real love story is between Ezra and...well, everyone. Ezra and his best friend, Ezra and his chosen family - Ezra and the whole damn world that, for much of the novel, couldn't stop kicking him while he was down. But, mostly, it's about Ezra learning to love himself.

If I had to describe the book in one sentence: it's so raw and gritty you can't look away, and so tragic yet hopeful you don't dare try.

Overall once you read the whole book, you realize that the story has a really wonderful overall message. However, this book is a slow starter and it took me until I was 3/4 of the through before things started to pull together and make sense. This is a book definitely formadults, if you are looking for steamy scenes then this isn’t the book for you. If you are interested in a story about a man, coming to grips with becoming an adult, definimg what the word and definition of what “Family” means to him, then this is the book for you. This book touched my heart, made me laugh and made me cry, but most of all confirmed for me that as individuals we all have our own definition of what Family consists of for each of us.

OUTSTANDING!
WOW! OMG! WOW! One of of an amazing read that grabs hold of you keeping you hostage refusing to let you go! The emotion this read pulls from you will rock you to your core! Your heart with ache with pain and suffering and then will be lighten with laughter and joy! Wicked spellbinding twists that tips the storylines scales to crazy intense heights that keep you on edge not wanting to know more but needing to turn the pages! There's nothing Easy about this read but will be one of those that will be a definite must read again! I LOVED IT! This read does not capture your attention it demands it!

Mercedes Siler chose such a perfectly deceptive title. Easy. Ezra’s life wasn’t. Yet, this title character put the people in his life at ease, taking on their burdens, taking their abuse, loving them unconditionally. But Ezra wasn’t at ease with himself. Not right away. This book took me on his journey. As I think about it now–it was a journey of faith. Sometimes Ezra made me feel uncomfortable, and sometimes his life was scary, but he seemed to find joy in those he loved–Mayyim, Jake, Abby… I know I will be thinking about Ezra for a long time. I loved it.

An emotions in this book were all over the place . All of the characters and storyline intertwined beautifully.
It wasn’t really book easy to read. To much going on but this is road to adulthood. From unruly young men to grownup.
This is a must read for anyone looking for one of those books that just grips you from the beginning to end.

Ezra and his best friend experience their first love in this romantic and compelling novel by Mercedes Siler. This book is a growing of age novel with intertwining problems and exciting adventures. Ezra put everyone at ease. He takes on peoples burdens and loves them unconditionally. Ezra found himself and found joy in the toughest of situations. I really enjoyed this book and I would recommend it to anyone who loves to be taken on journey of love and self discovery.

I've read this one twice and really had to sit and think about the book.

It's so hard to write a review without a spoiler, but I will sing Mercedes' talents. I love reading Indie authors and authors who are so bare with their work. The grit, the emotion, the descriptions, all of these form the perfect trifecta.

Reading Easy is like finding the perfect indie movie every one is sleeping on for a few years. You'll chuckle and get frustrated, and feel like you're right there with Easy and the boys while they navigate life in L.A.

Definitely worth picking up and becoming a fan of Mercedes.
