For fans of Ginger Gold and Basil Reed!!
This is the wedding you’ve been waiting for! The bride and groom prepare for their big day and, of course, things don’t go exactly as planned. Told from the alternating points of view of many of the beloved characters in the world of Ginger Gold, you’ll find yourself holding your breath, anticipating that happy ever after. The Wedding of Ginger & Basil a companion novella best enjoyed after book 7 (Murder at St. George's Church) in the Ginger Gold Mystery series. This is a mystery, but not a murder mystery.
BONUS MATERIAL: includes the first chapter of Book 8 in the Ginger Gold Mystery Series, Murder Aboard the Flying Scotsman.
It's Lady Ginger Gold and Chief Inspector Basil Reed's wedding day and things are not going smoothly. Basil is on his way to the church when he is contacted by Scotland Yard. They have a dead body and no one to investigate the homicide. Ginger is trying to get dressed for the wedding when she realizes that the ring she bought for Basil is missing. Where could it be?
This is a short story in the Ginger Gold Mystery series. It's told from the point-of-view of various characters in the series. My rating: 3 Stars.
Before you read this short novella you have to at least read Murder at St. George's Church so you know what's going on.
This novella takes place the day of Ginger and Basil's wedding. Each chapter is from someone's point of view (Ginger, Basil, Scout, Pippins, etc). There's no murder to solve, although Basil does have to show up at a murder scene until the assigned officer can show up, but there is a mystery of a missing wedding ring.
I love Ginger Gold mysteries and this is a sweet addition, but I think this could've been an extended prologue to Murder Aboard the Flying Scotsman which is about Ginger and Basil going on their honeymoon and what happens on their way there.
I have read and enjoyed most of the novels in this series, which I read for the mystery elements and because they are pleasant, light reading. This is a comparatively short companion piece which could not be read out of sequence, as it only makes sense if you have read at least the previous book, "Murder in St George's Church".
There are some small mysteries in the story, connected to the wedding, and there is a body, which does not appear to have any connection with the wedding, but there is no real investigation. Can this death be tied into the next in the series, "Murder Aboard the Flying Scotsman”, of which the first chapter appears at the end of the book?
I had assumed that the reason for producing a separate story was to allow scope for more fashion history-it is about a wedding, after all- or to flesh out some of the characters a bit more, but there was surprisingly little about fashion and not much character development. So no real detection, and not a lot of extra historical or personal background....
As the previous paragraph may indicate, I am a little confused by this novella, since I am not sure of its purpose. I would have enjoyed it more, albeit shortened, as the opening chapter(s) or Prologue of the new book. The new book looks promising- Chapter One is very intriguing- so I will be "on board" for that!
This one was just not for me.
Thank you to the author for the digital review copy.
This is a nice, warm little mystery around the nuptials of our favourite red headed sleuth. It's actually refreshing to have Ginger solve a mystery that doesn't involve a dead body. The change of points of view allows us to get to know the minor characters better, and the entire story ends happily in a heartwarming manner. As I do not enjoy previews, preferring to experience new books in their entirety, I didn't read the first chapter of the next book that is included. As always, you can't go wrong with this series.
My favorite in the series! I loved this book. What a fitting way for Ginger and Bsil to be united. I couldn’t think of a better way to do it and a great way to lead into the next book at the end. I’m glad this isn’t the end! Book gifted to me.
The title does not say it all! Things come up and a death and mystery threaten to interfere. But nonetheless, Ginger and Basil do get married. A fun little story with a beautiful and meaningful wedding ceremony. Cannot wait for the next adventure! * I borrowed this ebook from Amazon Prime Reading. All opinions are my own.*
The Wedding of Ginger & Basil is a delightful interlude between mysteries in the charming Ginger Gold series. I love that the story is told from the changing perspectives of all the characters I have grown to enjoy. The story clips along at a nice pace which makes it an easy afternoon read without feeling rushed or underdeveloped. It is the perfect bridge between where we last left Ginger and Basil and their next adventure on the Flying Scotsman.
Ginger Gold and Basil Reed are about to tie the knot at last! Everything that could possibly go wrong seems to happen on their wedding day: Ginger misplaces Basil's ring, her maid disappears and Basil is dealing with moving and filling in to assist with a murder investigation! Told from alternating points-of-view from Ginger, her servants, Ambrosia, Oliver and Basil, this story concludes the romantic drama.
I would have liked this story a lot more if it weren't for the numerous inconsistencies and errors. The author seems VERY confused over British titles and inheritance. How can Daniel's grandfather have been SIR Artemis Gold (a knight or baronet- one of which is not hereditary) but Daniel be a Baron? They're not the same thing. Also, Basil can't inherit "The Honourable" because that's not a real title. Is his father titled? If so, is Basil the eldest son? It sounded like his brother was the eldest. If so, then Basil doesn't inherit any sort of title. Numerous reviewers have mentioned the title problem so the author really should have researched it and corrected those mistakes. Just watch Downton Abbey and it will be explained nicely in the first season.
I liked the plot a lot. I didn't know what happened to the ring but I thought I knew what happened to Lizzie. I enjoyed getting to know Ginger better through the eyes of her dependants. The servants have some very valid concerns and I am a bit disappointed Ginger didn't think about that or address their concerns with Basil. It shows just how elite she is that she may be kind but often thoughtless of how her actions affect others. I also liked seeing Basil's point-of-view.
This is a fluffy cozy mystery for fans of the Ginger/Basil relationship. It's not too difficult or dark to read and can be read in one quick sitting.
1924 October The wedding day of Lady Gold and Chief Inspector Reed has finally arrived. But a missing ring and a murder may cause problems. Told from various p.o.v. No mystery, or character development but still an enjoyable quick read.
After seven cozy mysteries where we’ve been able to watch the slow development of Ginger and Basil’s “will they, won’t they” romance, finally their wedding day has arrived. Surely it’s time for Mrs Strauss to give them a break and let them enjoy a smooth, happy day as they celebrate with their friends and family?
It was great fun to read this little companion novella to the Ginger Gold series. Although there’s no full murder mystery to solve, there’s still drama and a bit of mystery thrown in before Ginger and Basil finally make it to the altar. The author also uses this unique opportunity to give us a little look at many of the regular characters in the series as she builds the book up in layers. In doing so, there are some light-hearted as well as poignant moments on this mini rollercoaster of a day. However, the book does end with Ginger as the new Mrs Reed – I don’t think that that’s too much of a spoiler – and she and Basil are ready to live happily ever after. Until the sneak-preview first chapter of the next full-length book that we’re also treated to. I’m now waiting in great anticipation for the story of the start of Basil and Ginger’s honeymoon: Murder aboard the Flying Scotsman.
I can thoroughly recommend this little novella to all readers of the Ginger Gold series. I’m sure it could be read as a stand-alone, but it would definitely be more enjoyable if you’ve read the earlier books in the series.
A review copy of this book was sent to me by the author. All the above opinions are my own.
Finally Lady Gold, owner of the exquisite dress shop and private detective, and Chief Inspector of Scotland Yard, Basil Reed are getting married. The day does not go off well. First the pies are burned, the laddies maid disappears, Ginger has misplaced the expensive gold band for Basil, and her ward Scout runs off. Then a stranger shows up at the door, and they all think he stole the ring. That's just on Ginger's front. Basil get called in on a found dead body, because another detective is in hospital tending a broken arm, promising to get there as soon as he is released. Then his car doesn't start and he has to take a taxi to the hotel he's booked, because he closed up his house. He finally gets dressed and runs out into the street to catch a cab, but there is an accident that slows them down, so he jumps out thinking he can catch a different cab, closer to the church. He is then picked up by the stranger that turns out to be a childhood friend. Oh my, or in Ginger's words mercy me! So the church is full but no wedding party. They arrive in separate taxis at the same time, and all ends well. Written like no other then Lee Strauss, she makes her books believable and fun to read
This is a special novella for the Ginger Gold Mystery Series. Ginger is finally marrying Basil Reed. Ginger has found love but has lost her Lady Gold title with this marriage. This story is about the events of their wedding day.
What is nice about this book is that we get to learn more about the members of Ginger’s household. They have chapters to discuss how they feel about the marriage and other members in the household. We also learn a little more about Basil’s background.
There are several small mysteries in this story. What has become of the wedding ring Ginger plans to give to Basil and where has Lizzie disappeared? Who is the mystery man who has stopped at Hartigan House? All these little mysteries are resolved.
As usual Lee Strauss paints pictures with her descriptions of places and what people are wearing. This is a pleasant one sitting read.

This was just a short novella relating the tale of Ginger and Basil's wedding day. It affords the author the opportunity to let new readers of the series get up to date. As for seasoned aficionados of Ginger Gold mysteries it's a pleasant interlude and satisfying conclusion to the saga of Basil and Ginger. Now onto their next adventure!
This is a cute novelette about Ginger's wedding problems which begin with losing her wedding ring on a wedding day. Searching for it, she finds out that not only the ring is missing, but her maid too, and that is not a good combination. On the other side of the wedding, there is a groom who had to take care of the murder because his colleague broke his arm. Good thing is that the witness is somehow familiar to him, but he can't remember where from. Intriguing and cute reading, as it is always the case with books about lady Ginger Gold.
I love this series and have been following Lee and watching for the release of “Murder aboard the Fying Scotsman”. When I got the notification to the invitation to the wedding was out I was looking forward to another great book. I have to admit while I enjoyed finally reading their wedding after following their relationship through all the series, the book really wasn’t up to the standard set previously and I was having a hard time trying to piece together the dead body call for Basil, I assume it was to lead him to be late as well as Ginger, it explained the mystery man who had called on her as his old friend, but I felt it as rushed and too short.
I will be waiting and looking forward to the Flying Scotsman, as it looks to be an amazing read.
This is a short and oh ! So sweet intriuge teaser for the next installment of our Ginger Gold mysteries.....keeps you turning the pages -as each story always does - we get to see all our favorite characters all from Boss to Goldmine and everyone inbetween ! ...love - romance- suspense - loads of fun ! Fashion and the time period is always good for its own character ! Nothing but fun and a stylish rendition of a fine upper class. - and yet down to earth milestone event in our heroin and hero's lives !
of course, even on the wedding day, Basil has a murder to solve and Ginger lost the ring for the groom.
Her maid was MIA and so the cook assume she is eloping with the grocers boy. What a coincidence! The maid is with the grocer kid at the murder scene, Basil also assume the girl and boy are on their way to Greta Green but has to report the murder first!
turns out all of them are wrong! The ring was taken by Scout because he don't know what to expect and he also feels left out! The maid was only getting some flowers for her mistress and so on.
I would recommend this book to anyone needing something simple and short to read. It was very interesting and was perfect for that one or two chapters needed to relax before sleep. The chapters were not to long and not to short. Readers familiar with this series will enjoy how this fills in space between the books and gives some nice information about the characters.
I was curious as to why the wedding was not included in the appropriate book mentioning the wedding. I found this and was truly delighted. I'm 72, a widow, and purposely avoid romantic readings. The Lady Gold series is the exception. I have read every book one after the other and they have brought back sweet memories of falling in love! And marvellous mysteries.
With just enough mystery to add mystery, this tells the lovely tale of the title. A very sweet and enjoyable read. The only thing that got on my nerves was Ambrosia. While the Dowager Duchess is expected to be a cranky outspoken old lady, she pushed it too far, and on Gingers wedding day. I would have tossed her out on her ear. Other than that all readers can breath a sigh of t relief-they’re married!
If you've real the Ginger Gold series so far, this is a charming novella focused on the wedding of Ginger & Basil. Don't know who Basil is? Then you really have to read the series. Love to read stories that have the different characters' POV. Great work, Lee Strauss. Can't wait for the next mystery.
Great to get to attend Ginger and Basil's wedding. The descriptions of the clothing are fantastic, although I would love to see a picture of Ginger's dress. Of course there is a mystery to solve which almost makes the bride and groom late for their own wedding. Can't wait to see what adventures they have on their honeymoon.
another story by Lee Strauss. although the characters are not solving murders there are a few mysteries. This is really a companion piece to the series with the eagerly awaited and hoped for marriage of Basil Reed and Lady Ginger Gold.
I thoroughly enjoyed the book and am looking forward to seeing how their marriage affects their detecting. Or will it?
Cute novella for series readers. It is the morning of the wedding and each chapter has a different narrator. Lizzie is missing. The ring to give to Basil is also misplaced. A strange man is at the door. Basil is called into a murder scene briefly. All the characters get brief showing and it really is lovely glimpse at a hectic morning
A lovely read! Nothing goes as planned for Ginger and Basil on their Wedding Day. Three little "mysteries" arise. Will these prevent them from getting to the altar on time? I particularly l loved that all the beloved people in Ginger's life were included in the story as the Wedding approaches. Great attention to this series!
I am disappointed in this book...much to short!!...this book should have been as elegant and beautiful as a climax of a beautiful friendship that had finally turned to love and adoration....it would have been better not written than this sorry piece of work !!
Another good read about Ginger and Basil and the staff sorting things for the wedding. Although it was a short book it was good to get an insight to different people in the story so they actually became a person rather than a mane just hanging in the air. I recommend this series to anyone that wants to read something that leaves you feeling warm and cozy
A well-crafted story. Much more care taken with this installment than the last book which seemed rushed. Maybe the author was just anxious to get to Ginger's wedding (and to start the spin-off series featuring Haley). I liked the different POV which gave us greater insight to a number of secondary characters. And the reason behind the mystery tugs at the heartstrings. A very enjoyable read.
Long in the coming, the wedding of the Ginger and Basil has finally taken place! I really enjoyed the way this book was written from the perspectives of the various characters. I especially appreciated hearing Pippins thoughts and the scene with Ginger and Scout. He is such a special young man. Can’t wait to see how things develop with him.
Ginger and Basil's big day and don't you just know that nothing will go to plan. A mysterious man turns up at Hartigan house, Ginger's maid goes missing as does Basil's wedding ring. Ginger certainly has her work cut out to try and solve these puzzles by 12 noon on her wedding day. Totally enjoyable and brought a smile to my face and a tear to the eye.
