This book is beautifully written. Everything is so vivid and beautiful and suspenseful. The storm was terrifying and the sexy time was electrifying. I loved it. This book can be read as a stand-alone but I loved how it did tie in the other two books in the series! You don’t have to read them in order but it makes more sense if you do! Katy Ames is a new one click author for me! I highly recommend this book.

Had no trouble getting hooked on this story, despite having not yet read the first two books in the series. Author has a unique style that layers emotion into practically every word, whether dialogue or narrative. Characters are relatable, flawed, and dimensional, and their story - while it follows a familiar story arc - is unlike any I've read before.

If you're looking for a romance that starts as a bit of a slow-burn, includes a little mystery, a few tugs on your heartstrings, and a whole lot of intense and steamy encounters, After the Storm is exactly what you want.

Arc provided by author for honest review. When Tristan was first introduced in after the fall. I dont know what it was but I had this pull toward him. To know all about him. To get inside his side and find out what's really inside his heart. I was drawn to him in way that doesn't happen with most characters from book. So to say I like Tristan it putting really mildly. I'm crazy obbessed with the man with everything about him. Tristan is just everything you could want I'm a best friends, a lover, a brother a cousin. He is just everything. He also my favourite of all the men in this series. And Tessa is my favourite of all the women. There attraction and pull to each other anyone could see these complete each other. After the storm happens to be one of the best books I have this year. Katy to blew me away with this one. It was truly perfect. Thank you!

I received an Advanced Reader Copy of this book. This book is fantastic and definitely my favorite in the series. I love to see two characters (hero and heroine) struggle with their personal issues as well as their feelings for one another. The characters are not only relatable but loveable. This is a page-turner and a must-read. Katy Ames is the next breakout author and I won't be surprised when her books make it to the big screen.

2.5 stars

I enjoyed the suspense aspect of After the Storm, but the rest of the story, primarily the romance, just didn’t work for me. The main characters, Tristan and Tessa, were inconsistent, acting in inexplicable ways, and making bad decisions that didn’t fit their personalities, whose only purpose was to add drama. The entire story takes place over the course of approximately a week. Tristan, a man who is carrying more than his share of baggage regarding his relationship with his villainous father, is a man who wanders the resort stealing pastry cream, barely speaking to Tessa when they meet and punishing himself with grueling swims in the ocean. He is the quintessential tortured hero, doesn’t want to feel anything or have relationships with anyone. He jumps and runs at loud noises, acts very erratically, to a point where Tessa is genuinely concerned for his well-being. Their relationship changes to a romantic/sexual one when Tristan saves her life during a hurricane. I thought the entire section of the book taking place during the hurricane was far-fetched and overly detailed, dragging on far longer than necessary. Tristan did a complete 180 and is suddenly spouting flowery, romantic words, his entire demeanor completely changed. Every now and then while reading sex scenes, I will start to feel uncomfortable—almost like I’m intruding or seeing something I shouldn’t. That’s how I felt with Tristan and Tessa’s sex scenes. They were bordering on silly, the dialogue was too mushy, and they went on and on to a point I lost interest. While I’m not advocating for nothing but quickies, this was just too much. Tightening up these scenes would go a long way toward making this book one I would enjoy.

There were multiple conflicts in this book, several of which resulted in lots of drama, but ending rather abruptly. It was too melodramatic for my taste. I was intrigued by Tristan’s past and did enjoy the suspense aspect of this book. He, his cousin Mark, and others are working hard to bring down his father, a man who will stop at nothing to win. I was very curious about Tristan’s previous life and what had caused his pain, fear, and anxiety. That was the only thing that kept me reading. I just couldn’t care too much about Tessa. The plot thread involving her family was unoriginal, very cliché. To my surprise, the revelations about her and her family were handled in a completely unexpected way. The scene of reckoning with Tristan’s father, Max, was my favorite. It started out in a very cliché, unbelievable way, but it all worked out. However, the book continued long past the point where loose ends should have been wrapped up and everyone should have been on their way to their HEA. All in all, After the Storm would benefit greatly from a heavy edit, to tighten it up and streamline the story. For me, this would have taken it from an okay story to a good one.

After the Storm can be read as a standalone, but l believe it would be better to read in order! Have read book1 kinda wish l had read book2 but that's ok l will go back and read! The story and characters were fantastic, this was a slow build/burn but when Tessa & Tristan got there WOW, both hurting from there pass! Awesome ending Tessa & Tristan are made for one another!

After the Storm was absolutely amazing and I loved it so much! It was a sweet, sexy, suspenseful, and entertaining standalone contemporary romance, and I would highly recommend it and the entire Seven Winds series! Katy Ames did a phenomenal job with the storyline and characters, and I loved her writing style. I fell head over heels in love with Tristan, Tessa, and their story, and I have a feeling you will too. The conclusion was perfect and I was ecstatic with the epilogue. So what are you waiting for? After the Storm will overwhelm and enchant you. Full of secrets, uncertainties, deep rooted longing repressed under years of being told not to feel mixed with a sexual tension thick enough to cut with a knife and the adorably awkwardness of being forced to be social made me fall in love with Tristan and Tessa. Taking a trip to the island will leave you with a warm fuzzy feelings of love and friendship. I adored this story so much! Tristan is a prime candidate for tour next book boyfriend!

The third in the Seven Winds series does NOT disappoint. As always, Katy Ames' writing draws you right in to the characters and the setting of these books. I was particularly intrigued with how the antagonist behind the scenes was tied to all each novel in the series and yet each book had their own set of protagonists that you loved to root for. Tessa and Tristan make you love them with all their broken pieces. #brokeheartboy I love the island, the resort, and all the people that make this series a fun, enjoyable, steamy read. I think this is the best book in the series!

Some lines that I tagged: "A friend. A person to listen to him even when he didn't speak, to sit with him even when all he wanted to do was run. Someone to stand on the shore and make sure he came back."

"They were twisted, tangled parts pressed together where they didn't quite fit. And Tessa hadn't felt anything so right, so mind-bendingly perfect in her entire life."

"You scared away the only person who's ever made you want to save yourself." This line killed me.

I hope you enjoy this book as much as I did.

Jumping into a book three in a series, by a new author to me, didn't dim the enjoyment of this book a bit. Yes, there were moments that I wished I had read the previous books to get more background information, but this story stands on its own and stands tall.
The writing is -- I use this word too much but honestly, even thesaurus couldn't help me here -- it is amazing. Each scene and dialogue is so packed with emotion, suspense, secrets, and this sizzling energy of something sinister lurking just around the corner that I was in awe. There are secrets and suspense, and even a bit mystery and evilness in the tale, so much so that without nearly any action I would still call it romantic suspense.
One scene particular where the fight is against the power of the mother nature, it has the force of a hurricane in itself, and with its detailed, drastic narration, it took my breath away.
The story itself is great and entertaining. The intensity is high, it is very physical, erotic, and the sex scenes are detailed, multiple, and H.O.T. They are also packed with emotions, so deep and so wide, demonstrating the storm of the inner turmoil, that they were an intricate part of the plot.
To say that Tristan and Tessa have chemistry would be like saying torpedo is windy. What those two had in between them was tangible, fierce, and powerful, a force to be reckoned with.
I read to escape, and as a chef and a pastry chef, for that reason usually, try to avoid the 'foodie romance' stories. There were a lot of references at the beginning of the story to baking and Tessa's creations but they were a relevant part of Tessa and Tristan finding a common ground and forming a connection, thus enjoyable and delicious.
An intense, riveting story about family, friends, food, and love and not necessarily in that order. It has strong suspenseful elements, it has dangerous, twisted secrets, it has unexpected connections, but mostly it has two souls hungry for love, acceptance, and a home to belong to. It is beautiful, powerful, and ah, so very ardent and amorous.

I picked up this book by an new-to-me author because I loved the cover: serious, dark, clean. Reading the blurb, I was hoping the book would be the same. And it was: The writing was great, just as serious and clean as I love it. I also loved the dark parts, though I would have loved to hear more about both of them were dealing with their pasts rather than falling over each other again and again. Don't get me wrong, the steamy scenes were really hot and well done. I would just have preferred more of the other. All in all, it delivered what I expected and I enjoyed reading it.

This was such an enjoyable romance! A little drama. Some suspense. A taste of mystery. And a whole lot of lovin’. I don’t know why I like romances that involve cooking or restaurants. But, for some reason it just intrigues me. So I tend to tackle reading anything I see that piques my interest with this genre’. And, this love story between the dark and broody Tristan and the feisty and compassionate Tessa does not disappoint. Ms. Ames pens a haunting but yet intensely passionate romance that just pulls the reader in. So looking forward to checking out her other two books...

The blurb for After the Storm by author Katy Ames really drew me in and I was looking forward to reading this book. However, it just wasn't for me. I didn't hate it, but it wasn't my favorite. This is the 3rd book in the Seven Winds series and can be read as a standalone (which I can attest to as I haven't read the first 2 in this series).

First off, I don't care for 3rd person narrative. I don't like when the character refers to themselves by their names it drives me crazy (that is just a personal preference). So that was off putting for me. Second, the author set up the book at the beginning and lead me as the reader to think that the old man on the bus was going to be an important person in the story (and honestly I kept searching for it through the book) but he was never brought up again making it seem that he was unnecessary for the story.

Also, I understand that these books are fiction, however, if you are writing a book placed in the "real world" I think that you should use the laws of physics when putting things in your story. I am referring to the fact that the Heroine, Tessa, went out in a category 3 hurricane and is on a rocky cliff with the waves beating against her and she starts to scream for the Hero, Tristan to come and help (who is some distance away) and he hears her? I am sorry, but personally I find that highly unbelievable.

My other issue is that the author threw in something that I felt had no bearing what so ever on the story. It was something that happens before the characters even KNEW who the others were and to me it just seemed like something thrown in to add "angst" but it didn't work for me.

The characters were okay, Tessa and Tristan, however I wasn't really all that invested in them to be honest. I think because of the narrative that the author chose to use just threw me off on the story and I wasn't able to connect with the characters on the level that I want.

The build up to the ending felt like a let down. For the person to go to the extremes that they did, to just basically sit down in defeat and stare vacantly at the wall? I think I wanted MORE to happen there and just felt that it just ended.

Overall, I will say that the writing isn't horrible, just not my preferred writing style. The pacing was okay and the flow okay.

This book wasn't my favorite but again these are my opinions and I always say, read things for yourself. While I personally didn't love it doesn't mean that others won't love it.

This book is the third book in the Seven Winds Series. I haven’t read the first two books and could dive easily into Tristan’s story. However, I would recommend reading the first two books, because you understand the overall plot better that way. After the storm can be read as a standalone, though. It’s just nicer to get the overall plot from the beginning.
That being said, Tristan is a very tortured character. We get glimpses from his past, from the things he had to endure and the pain he’s in, but nothing concrete, nothing that is explained in the beginning. It makes you root for him in a way I had only with one other author (Jo Raven) till now. You want to skip everything else, just to see what happened to him and see, if he gets his Happy End.
Don’t skip, though. You need to read everything to fall in love with him and Tessa. Both are stubborn people, hiding their soft spots behind walls that also hide their secrets. Secrets that could destroy their careers, families and friends as well as their relationship. The author manages to entangle all of this in a beautiful way, that makes it easy to follow and great to come to the end.
The writing style was exceptional. I really WAS there. On this small island in the middle of a hurricane. At the luxury resort. In the kitchen tasting the sweets Tessa made. I was there. The words and sentences made it so easy to imagine all of these beautiful places I have never been before. I really am not able to describe just HOW beautiful the writing style is. It just is and you have to take my word for it, that you absolutely will enjoy reading this book. I liked it a lot. And I wish I could explain myself better than this, because this book deserves better words.
And... Last but not least, the cover. I normally don't say anything about it, since I'm not really focused on the cover, but I had to say something about this one: It fits the story perfectly. Absolutely perfectly and it's exaclty how I imagined some of the scenes.

If you enjoy feeling a million different emotions while reading a book, After the Storm is definitely for you. I always love a book that allows me to feel like I'm living in the story, and this book accomplishes that as well. Packed full of detail and emotion, After the Storm is beautifully written.

From the first page, After the Storm drew me in with how mysterious one of the main characters was. Their backstory is sad yet admirable, and the character they become by the end of the story surprised me. The next main character has a bubbly, spirited personality and gave this book a light in the dark when sad parts came about. These two opposites come together to form a sweet, romantic relationship that I envy.

There were little things I loved most about this book. The dinner dates that weren't "dates" were definitely cute. The change in personality for one of the characters proves that people can change. Some parts of the novel were hot and steamy, and others were funny and cheerful. It seemed like every chapter brought about a new emotion, and I enjoyed that I wasn't just feeling the romance; I felt everything right along with the characters.

Simply put, I loved After the Storm. With how unique it was, I know that almost every reader can find something to love about this book. I would recommend it to those who love an emotional novel with a happily-ever-after ending.

5 Stormy Suspenseful Stars!

When Tristan was 16 something horrendous happened and he lost everything and 20 years later, his soul is still tortured. He believes that he is incapable of love and that no one will ever love him ... that is until Tessa. Tessa has her own secrets and that is why she ran to the island and took a job at the resort her friends own. When Tessa meets Tristan she can feel the powerful pull between them and does everything in her power to bring him out of his shell. I don't want to say anything more about the story line, because I don't want to spoil it for others.

This is the first book that I have read by Ms. Ames and it won't be the last! This is the 3rd book in the series and I wish I had read the first 2 books first, so I will definitely be going back to read them. The twist and turns are unbelievable ... it got to the point where I just stopped trying to guess what was gonna happen next and just read the story, letting it take me wherever it went. My heart broke for Tristan and what he endured since he was 16. I couldn't help but love Tessa for being so brave to stand up to him and not let him get away with being a recluse. This book is so emotionally charged that I would be laughing 1 minute and the next I would be crying. I highly recommend this book ... but read the first 2 books first!

After the Storm by Katy Ames is the third book in the Seven Winds Series. I recommend to read the books in order. The previous books are After the Island and After the Fall.
After the Storm picks up where After the Fall left off.
Mark and Grace are leaving Seven Wind Resort. Tessa Armstrong is the new executive pastry chef at the resort. When she stumbles over a hunk of a stranger she´s not amused.
Tristan Hurst is on the run , a horrible night 16 years ago changed him. Now he has agreed to help his cousin out and he´s the new temporary boss of vSeven Winds. And the new pastry chef has him intrigued.
Both have this crazy insta chemistry. They can´t get each other out of their heads. But they have secrets and skeletons in their closets too. Nothing is as it seems, nothing. And when a storm is about to break loose, not only literally, everything is about to change.
After the Storm is a beautiful 4 star love story with just the right amount of danger and drama. The writing is great and I loved the characters and the story.

Steam, intrigue, and safe harbor for two souls escaping dark pasts is what you will find at the Seven Winds Resort in After the Storm by author Katy Ames. The third in a trilogy, I found no trouble diving in to the secretly interwoven lives of Tessa and Tristan. Tessa shows true grit as small but mighty heroine and master pastry chef at Seven Winds Resort on St Kitts. Fate draws broken, black sheep heir of the Hurst dynasty, Tristan Hurst, to the island seeking to bury his demons in the solitude of crashing waves. Both fleeing deceitful patriarchs, they connect instantly with chemistry enough to fog your windows! The love burned naturally as they shared intimate moments and innermost secrets. The plot was fantastic and kept me guessing! The passion increased in intensity to the very last page. Escaping dark pasts, Tristan and Tessa discovered shelter in each others arms, awakening their ability to love again. Katy's writing draws you in and keeps you there. And I'm secretly dying to try Tessa's recipes. :) Five star read. Highly recommend for romance readers.

I must admit, I was a bit apprehensive about reading this book "After the Storm by Katy Ames". The cover intrigued me and reading the description, I was even more intrigued. Though a part of me was thinking 'this is going to be like any other supernatural love story.' I couldn't have been more wrong... this book was a fantastic read! The suspense is what really kept me going. I didn't expect to love the book as much as I did. I am so happy to have run across it.

Though, I am a bit sad that it was the third in the series because I do feel like I missed out on so much. I throughly enjoy the way Katy Ames conveys these characters through her writing. It makes you feel as though you can think of yourself as your favorite character and just enjoy the ride even more. Complete page turner and you will find yourself saying "omg" a lot, I know I did! It left me feeling really emotion and just wanting to read more. I really hope this is not the last book in the series, PLEASE GIVE US MORE!

The first two books in the series are crazy with suspense and intrigue and yes the romance, and deception involving Max. Nothing prepares you for Tristan’s story. Broken and destroyed, used as a pawn, holding more secrets about his father’s abuse and bullying for years. He finally thought he could breathe. He thought he might have a chance to survive and break free of Max. This author shows us with this read that she isn't just a romance author that can do intrigue and suspense, she shows that she can tear us to shreds with a character who has taken a beating, abused by his father in so many ways making him feel like he will never escape his grasp. Max didn't count on Tessa seeing the rel Tristan and putting him back together piece by piece and sealing it with love. It's an amazing story which will rip at your heart.

This book was great. You don't need to have read the prior two books to understand everything that's going on, so it's a standalone as well as part of a series. Although the book still follows all of the expected romance plot points, it adds so much more. There is more character development than you typically see in romance novels. Also, there are TWO mysteries that help push the plot forward. Tristan and Tessa face more than one problem to ensure that they persevere and end up together, and that's so nice. This book really has it all: friendship, mystery, romance, steamy scenes; I really enjoyed it and will be checking out Katy Ames' other books based on this read. Note: I received a copy of this book for my honest review.

After the Storm has everything you could want in an epic romance! Tristan and Tessa's relationship builds with such a fantastic slow burn and you want them to get together so, so badly. And when they do it's just fantastic (OMG the bread scene!!). The journey they go on together to face the trouble and secrets from their pasts is intense, healing, and ultimately beautiful. So much emotion packed into this story (and a ton of super steamy scenes). Loved it from start to finish. You do NOT need to read After the Island or After the Fall prior to After the Storm; they are all standalone stories but some of the characters are connected. There's something about this book that grabs you from the very beginning and doesn't let go. The relationship between Tessa and Tristan builds slowly and beautifully (and, wow, the sexual tension keeps ratcheting higher and higher). And just when their relationship goes exactly where you want it to, they have to weather a series of new challenges together. The sex is hot, Tessa and Tristan's romance goes from sweet one second to so damn steamy the next, and the strength that they find in themselves and each other to overcome their pasts is wonderful to see develop. A great read all around. Highly recommend.

This was a great contemporary romance. This author was unknown to me, but the writing was beautiful. Tristan was such an emotionally damaged character, my heart was breaking for him and all he had to go through. At the same time, his relationship and love for Tessa really redeemed and saved him from himself. Tessa was a great characters, an emotionally resilient woman who went into a baking career so she could provide happiness to other- happiness she was deprived of as a child.
They were chapters that made me cry, but also plenty that made me laugh. It was a great mix that kept the book both light and emotionally charged. A great read that would highly recommend!!

This is the first book by this author I've read which obviously means I haven't read the other books in this series. While this book can be read as a standalone I think it would have been better had I read the other two.

That said, I enjoyed this book. Tristan has the most heartbreaking story I think I've ever read; I'm glad that Mark was there for him and was able to provide some constant in his life during his hellish childhood. I felt for Tessa who was dealing with her own issues with having her father's debt collector blackmailing her for information. I think I would have appreciated the relationship between Tessa and Grace more had I read the other books in the series.

I read this as a standalone but I think it would have been a bit better if I'd had more background about the other characters. I did enjoy this though regardless. I liked the two main characters and the way their relationship built. Both characters have their own secrets and pasts and there's a bit of mystery as well which is always good. Once they both gave in to the strong connection between them there was no holding back. The sex scenes were well written and steamy. I lie how the whole story wrapped up and am interested in reading more.

Wow a story this was. I was totally consumed by Tessa and Tristan’s story. Tristan had this wounded soul, moody, dark character going on. This story was addicting, captivating and suspenseful. I was never bored there was always something going on that made it quite entertaining.

The characters were perfectly created for this story, they made me feel so many emotions for them. I loved Tristan very much. Bottomline is this is a must read.

There were quite a few scorching hot steamy scenes that could make snow melt off the roof. I strongly recommend this story with a great HEA.
