Event Planner is one of those key words that I stop everything I'm doing to read that book, and Katy Ames definitely did not disappoint in After The Island. I loved it! It was such an entertaining book, and I felt like I was on this Island with all the characters. I can't wait to read the next book in this series.
There are some books that enter your life that are strictly there to give you a few hours of entertainment. They make you laugh, they make you swoon, and then, you move on. It doesn't alter your life in any way, it doesn't blow your mind, but you enjoyed it, and so, the time you spent together was well worth it.
Then, there are other books that you read a bit at a time, because the masterful wordsmithing is just so breathtakingly beautiful, you have to put the book down occasionally just to wrap your head around what you just read. That was this book for me.
Katy Ames blew my mind, to put it simply. Everything, from her descriptions of the beautiful landscape to the impossibly hot sex between Jack and Sadie, was heart-stopping, and at times, I had to remind myself to breathe.
There is absolutely no criticism that I could offer, nothing to knock a star off my rating. I will follow Ms. Ames to the end of the earth, if it means that's the only place I can find her writing.
Things get hot on the island when a forbidden romance flares to life between an event planner and her irresistible client.
“Rules or no rules, Sadie, once our lips touched there was no going back. Not for me. Not ever.”
Charming. Brilliant. Powerful. Jack Avery is Sadie’s biggest client and he’s wanted her since the first time she stepped into his office. But for four years he’s managed to conceal every lustful thought, and hide every lurid look. Because no matter how much Jack wants Sadie, any relationship between them is the definition of complicated.
Intelligent. Driven. Successful. Sadie Carter’s event planning career is thriving and she’s not about to let anything – or anyone – distract her. Not even the darkly handsome man who can make her pulse race with a lingering look or breath catch with a simple handshake.
Until one night, one kiss, changes everything.
Professionally, Sadie is at the top of her game. But, personally, there is no way she could ever plan for a man like Jack.
So when a work trip to the Caribbean turns into a week in paradise, they’re forced to choose: Pursue a passion that ignites under the tropical night sky? Or risk destroying everything they’ve ever worked for by staying together after the island?
I usually don't take the time to review books because I read other reviews and I'm all holy crow THAT was a well-written review. However with this book I loved it so much I thought I should. The lead is not some lame damsel in distress that needs a man to save her which I appreciated. She is a smart, confident, witty, professional woman. The love interest was strong yet wasn't annoyingly domineering that plagued contemporary romance novels the last few years (thanks Eddie Cullen and Mr. Grey!)
The story had enough peaks and valleys to keep you hooked and I loved the ending. It also introduced the couple you want to see for the next standalone book in the series. Can't wait to read After the Fall.
Overall, excited about this new author and look forward to reading more.
After the island was a wonderful, romantic story! The hot parts were so hot! The story was so unique. The writing was fantastic. Book 2, coming right up! New one-click author for me!
This book is so much fun! And the Island vibe really makes it great for reading on the beach.
Sadie works for Jack, runs big events for his company. Jack has been after Sadie for 4 yrs but has stayed away because he's her client and that's a no-no. But then he kisses her, sparks fly, and they end up on a work trip in the Caribbean where they can't stay away from each other.
The characters are real people trying to balance their professional ambitions with their personal lives. Secrets are uncovered. There's a little bit of intrigue. And a bunch of sexy fun between Sadie & Jack.
Looking forward to book #2 - Grace and Mark's story!!
This is my first Katy Ames but won't be my last. I was hooked straight away but kind of got lost in the middle. I found it be in depth which was good but didn't always keep engross but I will be reading the series for sure.
The chemistry between them was intense & you felt that for sure
Arc provided by author for honest review. This my very first book by Katy. And I have to say I was really impressed and shocked about how much I enjoyed it. I am skeptical with all new authors. So when they put there hard work in my hands. I have to be completely honest. And sometimes. It's always good. But with this book here, I devoured it from start to finish. And you could see the pull Sadie to jack, and vice versa. I can understand why they fought there attraction but I actually sat down and thought about for bit. If it was just a fling obviously it wouldn't be worth it. But you could tell it was more. And really if could have your dream just job. But if your not emotionally happy or physically might add is it really worth it to have that dream job but no one to share it with. In my honest true opinion it's not.
Christ on a sand dune, I was swept into a romance vortex with this one!
I fell completely for Jack and Sadie. Damn, were they hot. I laughed and I swooned. I loved the Caribbean setting, so gorgeous and tropical. The backdrop just added that much more romance to the overall story.
I'm already diving into book 2 ( because the teasers for book 3 have my eyeballs sweating! )
I absolutely LOVED this book! Super sexy and loads of chemistry between Sadie and Jack. I can’t wait to read more from this talented new author! This book is the perfect staycation as the words jump off the page and transport you to the Island. If you need a sweet escape-this is it!
I was given an ARC from the author in exchange of a review. All thoughts, feels, emotions, and comments are my own.
First off, I loved the cover of the book. The writing inside was even better. The angst level was off the charts! Great start to the series, can't wait to read Grace and Mark's story.
I don't read romance novels, but I was recommended this from a friend, as an advance reader - and as I'm addicted to the written word, I figured, let's do this.
This was great. It has the tropes you expect from a romance, but without the cliches and old tired story arcs. I found myself rooting for specific characters, angry at others (LIZZIE), and desperate to take a damn vacation to this island.
Sadie is not a Stephanie Meyer weirdo, she's tough, and smart, and don't need no man, so finding one feels far more natural. Give this a shot.
I received an Advance Reader Copy in exchange for an honest review.
Katy Ames has got it going on! This is the perfect vacation read (or a great choice if you're just looking to FEEL like you're on vacation.) Katy is truly a gifted author when it comes to evoking all the details of a particular setting, and the resort where Jack and Sadie's story plays out really does come to life through her words. Definitely check this series out if you're looking for some tropical passion and a badass ladyboss heroine you can admire. Oh, and Jack's pretty hunky too ;)
A wonderful romance, fantastic writing and a lush and descriptive setting that made me feel like I was right there in the story, what’s not to love!? I really enjoyed this book and will definitely be picking up book 2.
Fantastic debut novel Katy! Loved the build up to this beautiful love story, on this beautiful Island! Sadie & Jake have awesome chemistry! Look forward to reading After The Falls!
He's watched her for years. Saw how she interacted with people, how she handled herself. He was obsessed. But . . yup the notorious 3 letter word stood in the way until now. She's career driven and a force to be reckoned with. She knows exactly who he is now, since Denver he's never left her mind. . . but. On an island this author takes us through the breakdown of the walls that held them clearly in their designated space. It's a great read with plenty of emotion and yup some intrigue too. These two are an explosion of passion once they allow themselves to let go. Now to see if it will make it after the island has been left behind and real life has made it's appearance. Between the lies, deceit and heartbreak will love be strong enough to overlook it all.
Great read and I love this authors style. Plenty of beautiful imagery which made you feel like you were right in the story. Jack had his faults but he was truly a charmer. Sadie is a strong powerful woman and a pleasure to read about.
A sparkling debut from a new author! I burned out on reading romance novels because there are so many poorly-written ones out there. This was a welcome and much-appreciated change. I got lost in the beautiful writing, and felt like I was on the island with the characters. I'm a writer myself, and as I read the book I found myself highlighting sentences that really wowed me. Now that's how you know you're reading great writing! The plot is a slow burn, with intriguing side characters and small detours that keep you curious and guessing about what happens next. A lovely debut from Ms. Ames, and a fresh and welcome addition to a genre filled with stinkers. I look forward to her next book!
Disclaimer: I received a free Advance Reader Copy of this work prior to publication. This did not affect my review in any way.
What an amazing debut from a bright new author! Hold on to your seats ladies and gents, this wonderful romance will take you to heaven. With a headstrong alpha male and an equally as feisty heroine, you wont be able to put this book down. Sit back with a margarita and let Katy Ames take you away to a beautiful tropical location, and find love. Standalone novel. HEA and no cheating. What else do you need in life?
Forbidden love, steamy trysts, and stolen kisses - oh my!
Forbidden love, stolen kisses, steamy trysts...... this is the second book that I’ve read by Katy and it won’t be the last for sure! She puts so much love into full developing her characters and their stories. I loved Jack and Sadie. It started as an attraction of lust but will it turn into so much more? What is Jack hiding? You’ll have to read it to find out!
If you are looking for a great HEA adult romance, look no farther. I loved the setting and really liked the way Ms. Ames built her characters into something more than just the physical relationship they saw in each other. They way Jack pursued Sadie was intense and yet also sweet. Definitely an 18+ novel. Hot and steamy.
A fantastic debut novel! This is my first book from Ms. Ames and it did not disappoint! I live for angst and delicious tension between characters and these two were swimming in it. And the reward was so very worth the wait. HOT, HOT HOT!
Do yourself a favor and get to know this author. You will not regret it! I'm eagerly awaiting her third book now. Can't wait to get started!
I didn’t like this nearly as much as book 3 in the series. It feels a little like the beginning only exists to get them into bed. ☹️. Although, once they’re there, holy hotness. It’s a fair read overall, but would pick book three if you’re only going to read one.
I really enjoyed this book. Loved that it was set at a tropical resort. There were definitely a few surprises, and a great ending! I'm excited to read more from this author!
I loved and adored Sadie and Jack. They fought their attraction because of rules of the job, but the build up made it all worth it when they finally give in. Jack, so debonair and charming, watched Sadie for years...yearning for her, not being able to think of anyone but her. Sadie, so smart and successful, always trying to do the right thing, really made Jack work for it. I loved these two together.💖
