When Carys Reece, the daughter of music royalty Bishop and Alana Reece, and her boyfriend, up-and-coming recording artist Nikko Williams, decide it’s time to move past the “safe zone” and take their relationship to the next level, their long-awaited sexy getaway is derailed by a shocking family intervention. They soon learn their parents have never told them the whole truth of what they’ve had to do to make it in the ruthless and tumultuous world of love and hip-hop…and now their complex web of lies threatens everything Carys and Nikko hoped to build together.
Full of steamy twists, salacious turns, and devastating revelations, Blurred Lines is a tale of three generations of strong-willed and ambitious women who find themselves at life's crossroads with everything to lose: their men, their money, and even their music. This fast-paced, outrageously scandalous and compelling page-turner by Mona Scott-Young, Executive Producer of VH1’s hit docuseries “Love & Hip Hop,” and bestselling author Courtney Parker is as wild a ride as the show itself, and the straight-from-the-headlines story will satisfy fans while taking storytelling to a whole new level – and reaching a whole new audience.
When the reality show ends, the real drama begins!
Blurred Lines was a part of my book club reading list May 2019. Honestly, I was disappointed. The story line had a solid foundation, but the unfolding of the stories became unrealistic to me, a bit far-fetched. Plus the corny Love and Hip-Hop plugs didn't win me over. I'll start with a basic synopsis as I always do. We start with Carys and Nikko attempting to take their relationship to the next level with a romantic getaway with the hopes of finally sealing their love by making love of course. Unfortunately this is halted when family members of both Carys and Nikko intervene. As each of the uninvited guests tells their life's story, Carys and Nikko must face the facts (after deciphering many lies) they may not be able to continue on their journey of love. Of course you must read to determine the outcome.
Now what spoke to my soul. Lies and deceit will only bring more lies and deceit. Even when you have a pure intent, deceit will backfire on you. This proved to be the case more than once in Blurred Lines. The next thing is integrity should take precedence over success. This has recently come up for debate in the Monique vs Steve Harvey/Oprah Winfrey/Lee Daniels/Tyler Perry issue. Seeking success or money is far more detrimental in the long run than upholding a level of integrity. Both honesty and integrity are linked together and has the potential of bringing lasting happiness if done properly.
If you like the Love and Hip-Hop series, this probably is the book for you to read. I believe more attention to detail and timeline was needed to provide a more authentic experience. Overall, the storyline was captivating.
