Hawk the second book in The Quiet Professionals series. I
had no trouble reading it as a stand alone as I have not read
the first book.
This story is action packed, moves fast and contains a lot of
harsh reality.
The story contains many twists, unexpected turns and
Shocking surprises.
The author gets inside the heads of the characters and
presents them to the reader so you understand the inner
workings of all involved….the main two characters and the
terrorist plus Raptor 6 team members and other American
military.
The terrorist are cutting into the American communications.
The terrorist are giving orders that are endangering the
American troops especially the Raptor 6 team members.
This tracking to find the ghost hacker takes Raptor's
communications expert, Staff Sergeant Brian "Hawk" Bledsoe
into the middle of Afghanistan. He finds himself faced with a
duel problem of having to find the hackers and saving an female
Muslim pilot ( Fekiria Haidary), her teacher friend and some
children refuges hiding from the Taliban. This involves taking
them up into the mountains during a major snow storm.
Description is deftly woven into the story. I felt I was right
there in each scene.
The tension was thick and well-sustained. Every turn gave the
reader something unexpected.

I adored Hawk in the first book of the series, Raptor 6. He had some funny witty banter to deliver to the team and is almost like the bad apple of the family, but will protect them with his life!

There was a lot of action and events happening in this book, all which added to keeping my interest to see how it will end. Fekira, I still have some mixed feeling on her, not sure yet if I like her or like her for Hawk. I did enjoy to see her character growth and how to Christians had a very strong influence in her life, especially when it came to displaying love.

The threat is still not solved and I'm looking forward to reading the next book, Falcon.

This series is best to read in order, since there is a mystery of who is after Raptor which started in book 1 and flowing through the series.

Hawk was an action-packed military thriller! It took me a little bit to get into, but there were some moments that really held my attention and I didn't want to put the book down. I loved the characters and I can't wait to start the next book to read Falcon's story.

I'm not sure if I liked this book better than the first one, but either way both were great and I recommend the books I've read in this series so far!!

Having read Raptor 6 and Operation Zulu Redemption over the course of the summer I have come to expect thrilling military action aka Rapid-Fire Fiction from Ronie Kendig. While reading HAWK, I came to the realization that I liked this book in a completely different way. While the action, intensity, suspense and imminent threat of danger were present, there were two elements in this story that resonated with me. Foremost, Ronie made a heart connection for me with her characterization of Sgt. Brian “Hawk” Bledsoe. This guy wants to be a hero, to make his grandfather proud, and to be someone who others looked up to and respect. However, he often finds himself in trouble due to his poor choices and his temper. Furthermore, Sgt. Bledsoe’s story reads like a testimony. He became confident in his own strength and walked away from God only to find himself desperately needing God’s strength and guidance. I was equally impressed with the author’s strong and rebellious female character Fekiria. (Those who have read Raptor 6 will recognize her as the cousin of Zahara Zarrick.) Fekiria, a Muslim, sees the two most powerful examples of love through her cousin and her friend Mitra, both Christians. This reminds us that we reflect Christ more often with our actions than we do with our words.

Ronie Kendig does such an amazing job at building suspense that at one point in the story I wanted to scream, “Can’t they catch a break!?!” This was all part of the plot with the enemy always being one step ahead of Raptor, but it took me to the edge. Thankfully, I didn’t fatigue before the tides began to turn. Hooah!

Hawk is book two in The Quiet Professionals series. Raptor 6 is book one. This series is truly ongoing from book to book. Each story builds on the one before it as more of the terrorist plot is revealed and Raptor team comes closer to discovering who is out to get them.

Once again, just as in Raptor 6, we see the story through the eyes of both the hero and heroine, but we also get glimpses into the minds of the terrorists. This builds some great tension in the book. Seeing the villains lay out their plans and the Americans unwittingly play into their hands is hard to read about!

One of the things that I really enjoyed in Hawk is the fact that Brian and Fekiria are not Christians. Both do have questions about God, though. Brian was raised with Christian grandparents and he strives to please his grandfather, a man who does his best to guide Brian to God. But Brian has had things happen in his life that make trusting in God difficult. It has just been easier to trust in his own strength. Fekiria was raised in the Muslim faith. She has two Christian influences in her life, but has been antagonistic toward their attempts to teach her about Isa “Jesus”. Honestly, Fekiria was not a character that I liked in Raptor 6. However, I did like her in Hawk. There were many times I didn’t understand her thought processes. But as the book progressed, I really enjoyed watching her growth.

The action in Ronie Kendig’s books is always intense and Hawk is no exception! Expect the unexpected and be prepared for a heart-racing struggle to survive. The attraction between Hawk and Fekiria started off subtle. Neither are looking for a soul mate. But when the romance woven between Hawk and Fekiria took hold, it truly took my breath away. I definitely recommend this action-packed book! And special thanks to the author and publisher for providing this book in return for an honest review.

This is an intense military series that takes place in Afghanistan involving the Army Green Beret Raptor Special Forces team. In Raptor 6, the story is about the team leader Captain Dean Watters and how he is drawn into helping with rescuing an American asset, Zahrah Zarrick, when she is taken by terrorists. In Hawk, we get to know Brian "Hawk" Bledsoe, the mouthy, quick tempered but lovable and kindhearted coms specialist. He is drawn into keeping a secret concerning Zahrah's cousin, Fekiria Haidary, a secret that could get her killed by her family but causes Hawk to get into trouble with his captain. The danger doesn't end there as someone is trying to destroy the team. Unfortunately, there is a mole within the Coalition Forces leaking to the terrorists that is causing deaths and mishaps to occur within the Americans. A SEAL team led by Lt. Commander Chris Riordan joins the Raptor team to back them up in the search for the mole and those causing trouble.
This an edge of the seat page turner that brings emotions to the surface concerning injustices and tragedies that occur in this part of the world, especially by the radicals and terrorists and even by cultural traditions that as Americans we can't understand. Expect some romance to add tension when danger hits but faith is very important to them through the stressful time. An awesome series by an amazing author!

What can I say about Ronie Kendig’s stories that I haven’t already said? In one sentence what I’d say about Hawk, like every other story that I’ve read of hers is, “read this story!” But, y’all know I’m not gonna leave it at that!

I LOVED this story! The writing style, the originality of the plot, the team dynamics, the character growth, the action, everything is all spot on! I also really loved how characters from the team, who are not getting their own story, Todd in Raptor 6 and Mitch in Hawk, have their stories embedded within the other stories.

If you have never read a Ronie Kendig story, you really need too! I promise she will suck you into the story and she won’t let you go until it’s done! She has single handedly made me love military suspense and science fiction stories - did I mention Brand of Light is also amazing and was my absolute favorite book of 2019? 😉 Anyway, I digress! I’m loving this series and can���t wait to read Falcon!

The second book in her newest series, this follows the titular Raptor team member Brian “Hawk” Bledsoe, who manages to get into quite a few scrapes in the beginning! One that transfers him to another team following a leave that sends him back home. Then there is Fekiria Haidary. Fekiria is an Afghan pilot who has been trained by the American’s only her beliefs not to trust them makes it hard for her to get along with any of them. She may think Hawk is handsome, but his annoying manners don’t endear him. Circumstances put them together in such a way that the two of them have to depend on the other for survival and the possibility of friendship.

As usual, Hawk is a fast-paced, intriguing story that is sure to be of interest to anyone seeking a high-octane suspense and certainly for those of us die-heard Kendig fans. (One of whom is my mother and guys, it's big that I read this before her. *wink*) I honestly think this book is a notch above Raptor 6. There's a never-ending cycle of adventure though it’s not always as the result of bullets chasing our heroes. Sometimes it’s just in the excitement of the chase thanks to a villain who is out for blood. That being said, I really couldn’t seem to focus on this story as well as prior books by this author. Before going further, I’ll expand on this. The reason for this has nothing to do with the writing or how the story comes together, more because of the e-ARC format from NetGalley. Let me tell you, the margins, paragraphs and the like is messy to say the least. All this does is make the reading less enjoyable. But as we all know, anything by Ronie Kendig is worth a re-read!

Beyond that, things are pristine as usual. The military terms, writing, characters and style is topnotch. Since this is just a trilogy, it’s nice to have subplots of the other team members, and have the chance to get to know them or to be able to keep current with people we’ve already met. Brian’s development is also quite good. He goes from being a kind of reckless soldier to someone more “settled” and understanding of the rules, and the purpose and reasons for those being in place. The only relationship that perhaps suffers is in the romantic tension. Fans of romance should know that Fekiria and Brian rarely spend any time together and what they do is out of necessity, so their relationship is more a promise of what could come vs. what has passed. In many ways I respect this because it allows the reader to imagine what they will of what may come out of that and also lends believability to what has passed.

In the end, Hawk is another 2014 release you'll want to read. It's hard to put down because of the characters (especially interesting is the look at the life of Afghan women) it introduces us to rather than because of the circumstances and that's the best kind of story. Go forth and read it - you won't regret it. Now if you'll excuse me, I need to go order a paperback copy of my own.

Hawk is the second book in Ronie Kendig’s The Quiet Professionals series. It picks up in Afghanistan with the team from Raptor 6, and tells us more of the team’s story, focusing this time on Brian “Hawk” Bledsoe. I really liked his character; he is a bit rough around the edges, somewhat arrogant, but a man of honor and integrity who never talks down to female counterparts in the American or Afghan military. He is a multi-layered character—just when I thought I had him figured out, Kendig masterfully peeled back yet another layer to give him greater depth and complexity.

Fekiria Haidary is a bristly porcupine of a woman, which is not surprising given she has been raised to hate Americans yet serves alongside them as a pilot in the Afghan Air Force. She hides this from her family, who would most likely have her killed to regain the family’s honor should her rejection of a traditional female Muslim role be revealed. Her animosity at the beginning made her difficult for me to relate to, but it also gave me a valuable perspective on the culture and prejudices that have confronted our military as they have struggled in Afghanistan since 2001.

As a military family, I appreciated Kendig’s thorough treatment of what our military members are faced with, both in-country and after their return to the US and “normalcy.” I also liked how she portrayed dealing with the death of another soldier, how it had to be compartmentalized and dealt with at a later date because other needs were so pressing at the time. It was touching, but not over-dramatized or syrupy, befitting the military members whom she writes about.

This is a stunning, well-researched novel. In some places, I found myself cringing, saddened, or shaking my head, and several times I gasped out loud or jumped in my seat—the writing really is that good. It played before my eyes like a big budget film with plenty of action to satisfy any adrenaline junky and the romance between Hawk and Fekiria was a sweet and subtle thread throughout the book, but never overpowered the main action. I would highly recommend this book to men and women alike, especially those with an interest in the military.

The Characters: After reading the first in the series, Hawk was a character that I wanted to know more about. This book provided those answers. I thought that Kendig did a good job of bringing him to life. He was a surprisingly good character and I enjoyed watching him throughout the novel. I did not feel as connected to him as I would have liked. I don't know there was just something holding me back, but all in all I did like him.

Fekiria was a character I actually really liked. She was a strong character trying to make her way in a male-dominated society. Often, her choices left me frustrated, but I enjoyed reading about her. I thought that she could have been more developed, but I liked watching her.

The characters in the novel were well-crafted. There are just a lot of them and sometimes I found myself getting bogged down in all the converging storylines. However, I did enjoy the characters.

My Overall Thoughts/Impressions: I liked Fekiria's story a lot. I think that was what knocked this novel up to a 4 for me. However, having said that, there were so many different storylines that I found myself wondering why there were so many. I felt bogged down at times and certain chapters I just didn't want to read.

However, on the most part I really enjoyed the novel, hence the four stars. It was a complex read, but I'm really intrigued by the world Kendig has created. It's one that I've found myself getting pulled into.

I recommend it to fans of war/army stories.

So why 4 stars? Despite the flaws, it stood out and I want to read the next one.

Can I read the series out of order? For the most part this one could be read as a stand-alone novel.

Warnings/Side-notes: None really.

The Wrap-up: An intriguing read that has me wondering what on earth is going to happen next. I have a few ideas, naturally, but I can't wait to figure out if I'm right or not. An interesting series that I'll be keeping tabs on.

HAWK, book two in The Quiet Professionals series quickly took off where Raptor 6 left off. And I do mean quickly!

Brian “Hawk” Bledsoe is nothing if he isn’t a man of his word. But, he never imagined making a promise to an Afghan woman would nearly cost him his career.

Fekiria Haidary has been a pain in his side since meeting her. Even though she is a cousin to his team leader’s girlfriend, she has made it abundantly clear she hates Americans, which includes Hawk. As luck would have it, Hawk gets in a bar fight protecting Fekiria. Having been warned already about his hot-headed temper, this is the final incident that sends him home as a disciplinary measure and takes away his rank.

When Hawk returns to Afghanistan he’s not allowed back on the team. He has to prove himself all over again and show the brass he has his anger issues under wraps. His main objective is to stay out of trouble and away from the woman who’s nothing but bad luck. Unfortunately, that’s not to be. With their team being targeted, Raptor sets out to find the person planting the corrupt intel that continues to put the team in harm’s way. Not in his wildest dreams did Hawk think he would find Fekiria in the middle of a firestorm protecting young girls from the Taliban and certain death. Knowing he’s their only hope, Hawk must assist Fekiria and the girls over a treacherous mountain range in frigid conditions as others search to kill them. When he finds evidence and information that proves his team is in danger, he has to make a decision: save the girls or his team.

HAWK is just as powerful as RAPTOR 6, with maybe just a little more friction and a tad less romance. Even though Hawk hates Fekiria for the trouble she’s caused him, he sees a woman of strength, courage, and self-sacrifice as she does all she can to save the young girls in her care. Fekiria has grown up her entire life hating Americans but her bitterness begins to lessen when she sees the lengths Hawk will go to, to ensure the safety of her and the girls. Both parties refuse to admit they have feelings for each other, but sometimes words are not necessary.

Wow! The more I read Ronie Kendig’s books, the more I love them! I am becoming a huge fan. Her books have so much appeal. They are full of action and suspense. The characters are three dimensional. The villains are really creepy. There’s often a beautiful picture of sacrificial love. The story grips you and just doesn’t let up till the end. The only negative thing is the wait between books!

I loved the character of Hawk. He is so flawed and so honorable. He makes a promise to someone he barely knows and keeps it at great cost to himself. He serves and gives until it hurts. He fulfills the Special Force’s Creed given at the beginning of the book. Like so many people, he feels the weight of those who have gone before him and wants to live up to their legacy (or not, in the case of his father). There is a very poignant scene with his grandfather who reminds him “God created you as you. Not as me….He created you with all your idiosyncrasies and that fire in your belly for a reason.” I hope Hawk plays a prominent part in future books.

Like the first book, this one is set in Taliban controlled Afghanistan. Through Fekiria’s character, you get a taste of what it is like to be a woman in this culture. Fekiria has her own secret that she must keep from her family at the potential cost of her life. She struggles with so many conflicting thoughts and values. It is amazing to see some of her layers stripped away as she endures hard times and learns who can be counted on.

All in all, this is a fabulous book. This is the second book in the Quiet Professionals series. It would be best if you read the books in order as the story just picks up where it left off. Book one was another great read. You won’t be disappointed!

Raptor 6 is back in this suspense-filled, action-packed continuation to the Quiet Professional series. Ronie Kendig doesn’t pull any punches in Hawk as she thrusts her readers headfirst into a boatload of danger and a frigid snowstorm that has even the reader fending off frostbite.

While the characters ran for their lives, fought the subzero temperatures, or faced insurmountable obstacles both on the home front and in the battlefield, their story became my own as I acutely experienced every success and failure right along with them. Hawk and Fekiria quickly pull the readers into their corner as they grapple with their past and learn to trust God, all the while falling in love with each other.

True to Kendig’s style, even the secondary cast leapt off the pages, taking up permanent residence in my heart, making me wish each one could get their own book. I absolutely loved Mitch’s thread — prepare yourself for an emotional ride! Despite not being a protagonist, he’s vying with Dean for the spot as my favorite team member.

While some questions are answered, many more are raised, leaving me once again desperately pleading for the next installment so that I can put together the final pieces of this mind-boggling mystery and uncover the identity of Raptor’s arch nemesis.

Military suspense fans won’t want to miss any part of this fast-paced series.

Hawk by Ronie Kendig started out as a great read. I really enjoyed the fast paced suspense, well written plot, and believable characters. It's all one asks for in a suspense read. The main character had his past to deal with as well as his military responsibilities. The other cast members were great, and one particular sub plot involving the personal life of a military brother added a great personal side to what those in our military face. All along, I didn't care for the euphemisms used such as " heck" etc, but the fast paced drama rather overcrowded it.

My enjoyment of the book came to a halt when swear words were added. This is labeled as " Christian." The author was doing a good job of telling that Muslims don't worship our God, that Christian men treat women with respect, that loving " Isa" changes people's hearts. I was so disappointed, though, at the swearing. It isn't " Christ like" which is what Christian means. Therefore, I can't recommend this book.

I don't say that lightly, but I felt a moral obligation to let people know. I can tell by the reviews that this doesn't bother everyone, but I pick Christian reads so I can read a clean novel. I really wasn't sure what to give it as a star rating.

Staff Sergeant Brian “Hawk” Bledsoe caught my attention in book one of The Quiet Professionals series – so I really looked forward to reading his story. Hawk is a gorgeous hero with whom I’d like to spend a day.
In book one; Raptor 6, we also met Fekiria—Zarah’s cousin. I didn’t like her so much from the start. However, I have seen Kendig turn my thoughts before about how I liked a character in a previous book, so I decided to give Fekiria a chance. But I didn’t really get to like her enough and that’s why I rate the book 4 stars instead of 5. The writing, action, and suspense really is 5 star quality, but to rate 5 stars I simply must have loved both the main characters.

The mission is dangerous and there seems to be no way out for Hawk, Fekiria, Mitra and the girls. The enemy seems to be everywhere. Meanwhile, Hawk has to deal with some serious demons from the past. Hawk is a man of his word—he promised to keep Fekiria’s secret and to bring her and the others safely through the storm.
Powerful writing – a real page-turner!

Another action packed story for the continuation of the Quiet Professionals series. I really enjoyed reading this book. Hawk, the hero, had a pretty rough time fighting terrorists throughout the whole book. However, the romance that started to grow with the heroine was really sweet. (She was pretty tough herself.) I totally recommend this book to anyone who loves action type military books. You won't be disappointed!

"What was that?" Dean demanded as he went to the door.
A red-faced sergeant burst into the room. "CECOM just got hit! It's a ball of flames!"

I don't know if I can survive until Falcon comes out...or if my family can survive me ;)

I really liked Brian's character (ok, I like all the characters, but still). He was just the right kind of...um, what word am I searching for?...damaged? I'm not sure if that's the right word, but he just had this...aura? about him that really made you want to figure out where his issues were coming from, and what had happened to cause them. Of course, then you do find out where they came from and why and you feel for him.

I really liked his loyalty and his honor. He promised Fekiria that he wouldn't tell her secret and he kept that promise even though it ended up possibly costing him a lot. Although, why he didn't tell Dean that the SEAL was trying to get a little friendlier with a girl that didn't like it, I don't understand. He could have done something along those lines and still kept Fekiria's secret...but I digress. Brian has honor/loyalty in spades which is great. Unfortunately, he also has sarcasm out the wazoo and a short fuse. Not always the best combination (trust me).

I felt for him when he was at the airport and heard his name, but refused to believe it was actually for him. I really liked his Granddad and Nana. They seemed to really understand his feelings without actually having to dig too deep. His grandfather especially "I know. It doesn't matter how, but I know" He could tell Brian was holding onto something and needed to spill.

Then you've got Fekiria. She's doing all kinds of the right sort of wrong (in a way). Of course, I think she's always been that way...

Fekiria shook her head. "That is not fair. I was a rebel."
"You were a young woman who knew what she wanted."
More firmly, Fekiria said, "I was a rebel...who knew what she wanted.

She's in the military even though her family told her to leave and she's helping Mitra and her girls. I was a little confused (kind of like Brian) as to why she was willingly working with Americans and why she even thought about anything with Ripley, especially given her various comments in Raptor 6. I think Mitra had her pegged though.

"For so long you've said you hated Americans. Now you feel that you must hate them." A shaky smile accompanied pain-hooded eyes. "Let it go and love him."

I'm going to admit that when Fekiria was first introduced in Raptor 6, I didn't like her all that much. She was very critical of Zahrah and her actions and it felt like she was hiding something. Granted, she probably was, but I thought it was something darker, like she was intentionally involved in what Raptor was dealing with. However, I can say that my opinion of her has drastically changed over the course of Hawk and I was very excited when she and Brian had their moment(s) on the mountain. Yes, they were technically fleeing for their lives, but what's running for your life without a little romance and turning to God for answers? Plus you've got their moment there at the end

Brian leaned in, hands braced on the edges of her wheelchair. "No farmers, or I'm coming in with everything I've got to save you from your own foolishness"

Zahrah helped Fekiria a lot. I think that part of why Fekiria was willing to marginally think about a possibility with Captain Ripley was because of Zahrah and her relationship with Dean. I like Z's comment when the two of them were in the hospital room. "Loving a warrior is hard. Dying in the line of duty is an honor to them. They would rather take that road than to dishonor their sacred oath."

I was shocked by what happened to Captain Ripley. While I didn't want him and Fekiria to get together (only because she and Brian need to be together), I also didn't want him to leave that way. At least he was trying to help Fekiria. I hope Mahmoud gets what's coming to him...

Moving on, Ronie has filled this book with the usual: intensity, the right amount of fear/worry, the hatred from the bad guys, faith and humor. For example:

The captain, Falcon, and Titanis dove into the vehicle. Brian grabbed Fekiria's hand, the bundle of screaming terror still clinging to the front of his vest

Poor Aadelah! So afraid! Although, if Brian was rescuing me, I'd probably hold on tightly as well ;)

Mitch's sub story was great too. I was so mad that his in-laws were calling him an absentee father and trying to take his kids from him! It's clear that Mitch cares for his children but asking him to willingly leave his brothers fighting for freedom was low. I was honestly cheering for he and Sienna to get together from the first time she was introduced. I have a feeling that his wife wouldn't have wanted him to go through the rest of his life alone and she'll be very happy that his second marriage is to someone who clearly loves their children as much as she did. Sienna's statement in the courtroom was great.

"If we marry, Judge Cartwright, will you allow us to keep the kids?"
"Sienna, please," her father said. "Don't do anything rash."
"It's not rash," she said, a fiery tone to her words. "I've waited two years for him to realize how I felt. He's just a little slow on the uptake."

Great way to get your feelings out in the open :) Plus, I'm more than just a little happy that she basically stuck it to her parents. I could understand their thought process if Mitch was constantly extending tours or when he was home, he didn't do anything with the kids. But he was the best father he could be under the circumstances. So I'm glad that things worked out well in the end :)

As usual, Ronie does a great job of interjecting faith and people turning to God in search of new faith or just trying to renew that which they may have lost. She also does an amazing job of putting it right in front of you without being all preachy and "convert and follow God or you'll die!" that can sometimes come up. I'm grateful for that. As a Christian myself, I'll freely admit (and have before) that my relationship with God isn't where it could be, but I also know that I prefer being able to grow my relationship in whatever way I see fit, on my terms. Sometimes you get the people who feel they are extremely religious and devout and anyone who isn't exactly like them is wrong. Ronie does a good job of putting the foundation down for the characters (and by extension the reader(s) if they so choose) to find and follow God on their own.

It looks like we're getting closer to finding out why Raptor has been targeted and who's been doing the targeting. Osiris certainly has its fingers in a lot of pies and I wonder just how deep those fingers go...

Boris also gets taken out of the picture for the moment and I'm wondering if Riordan and his team found him. I don't think it was Jin, Kiew and crew. Something tells me that if it was them, they would have probably just taken Boris out at the gas station and left.

I did like getting to see Timbrel and Candyman again. Can we get some more reunions/cameos? Please? :)

May can't get here soon enough...bring it on Falcon! I want to know about Falcon and Walker. There's clearly something there.

“Hawk” the second book in “the Quiet Professionals” series is a non-stop military thriller that opens with the discovery of a communication breach after a rescue mission goes sideways and the Raptor team is ambushed in a deserted village. Plagued with “corrupted intel” military is determined to find the terrorist who’s targeted the Raptor team, using Staff Sergeant Brian "Hawk" Bledsoe their communications expert who’s haunted by his own demons, to trace the hacker responsible. But struggling with a short temper Hawk gets into a scuffle protecting ANA pilot Second Lieutenant Rhmani (aka Fekiria Haidary) who’s being harassed at a local hookah bar pledging his word that he won't reveal her identity. Taken into custody and facing a dishonorable discharge, he gets a reprieve running supply missions south from Bagram Airfield only to have the first go bad and to deal with the guilt of two fatalities after receiving a false order.

Running parallel to the main plotline is Fekiria’s flight from the ancient customs and patriarchal fury of her family so she can take advanced pilot training in Kandahar where on a routine flight to deliver an Afghan Colonel to a meeting she’s held hostage, and her helicopter tampered with.
Threatened if she doesn’t cooperate with the terrorists, on a training assignment her weapons system is compromised, a missile launched at a Raptor safe house and she must abort the aircraft.

The two plots flow together when Hawk chasing Fekiria after the deadly bombing, rescues her, her friend and several young girls from a terrorist attack only to end up being separated from his team, struggling to escape through the mountains and finding vital information that could save his brothers-in-arms.

Fast-paced and action-packed, intensity and suspense quickly escalate when Hawk join forces with Fekiria who contends she hates Americans, to save her friend and the girls she teaches from the terrorists determined to kill them all. Twisting and turning the tension builds with an escape into the mountains that has them facing unpredictable conditions, injuries and finding a refuge where Hawk struggles with a decision after the discovery of vital information that could save his Raptor team. Yet at the heart of this well-written and mesmerizing plot is a strong message of faith as Fekiria’s Christian friend Mitra holds tight to her belief when facing death; Hawk’s trust in God is rekindled; and Fekiria begins to question her convictions.

Amid the violence and death there are tender moments as five-year-old Aedela clings to Hawk for protection, and Fekiria and Brian begin to act on their strong attraction to one another. Woven into the plot is a further thread as Mitchell “Harrier” Black the Raptor combat medic who lost his wife, is forced into a legal battle to save his two children, only to find the answer to his problem is only a heartbeat away.

Breathing life into the story are wonderfully complex and compelling characters like Sergeant Brian "Hawk" Bledsoe a soldier haunted by his past who fights for respect. Tough, blunt and smart this rule breaker reveals a trustworthy, kind and compassionate soul. Rebellious Fekiria Haidary refuses to conform to her strict Muslim upbringing, refusing two arranged marriages and facing the strictures and threats of her brother with contempt. Feisty, candid and with the heart of a warrior, she will sacrifice anything to protect her dream and those she loves. But among a host of realistic and fascinating personalities it’s the devious self-importance and cockiness of Boris Kolchecki, the haughty pride of Kiew as well as the coldhearted vengeance of Meng-Li Jin that infuses the plot with a terrifying chill.

I thoroughly enjoyed “Hawk” the sequel in a thrilling series you can’t put down until finished. With an explosive cliff-hanger at the end, I can’t wait to see where Ronie Kendig takes this story next.

"If we cannot stand for our beliefs, we will fall for everything."

I am loving this Quiet Professionals series streak I have going on this week. It was fantastic to get reacquainted with Dean and the team in the first book. I have to admit that I didn't like Hawk in the first book but this book really delved into his past and his emotional state to change my mind completely. I loved that he finally came to terms with his genius IQ and intelligence and used it for the good of his Raptor team. Hawk was fierce, loyal, dedicated, tenacious, and noble. The story had several subplots - one involving Hawk at a different base, one involving the rest of the team at their usual base, one involving Fakiria and her training as a pilot, one involving Boris the hacker and his crazy funny first person voice, and one involving the Chinese. These all came together at the end but there was really no resolution with the villains so I'm thinking some of these subplots will carry over to the next book. I'm dying of curiosity to know who really is at the head of the enemy group trying to take down the US military communications and intel. I enjoyed Mitch's story within the story - it was real and grounding in the midst of some fantastical tactical moves and trek through a devastating snowstorm.
Fakiria was prickly and defensive most of the time but I understood that she had been oppressed for far too long and needed to find herself.

If you enjoy non-stop action and suspense, this series is for you!

Once again Ronie delivers a high action, intense, complex, brilliant military thriller.
I loved this book ! I loved the way the sparks fly between Hawk and Fekiria . I am always a fan of the enemies to lovers trope! I would have loved to see more of their interactions but with so much happening in this story I can't always get what I want. I really got into this book, I ordered the third in the series while I was only a few hours into reading. So much that I didn't understand in Raptor 6, I get now!
Ronie Kendig has this phenomenal way of capturing the grit and honor of our armed forces. She writes some of the best warrior heroes that I have ever read.
She makes them human, battling their own struggles, and yet brings out the hero, and showcases their selfless loyalty.
She writes rapid scenes that demand you hang on for a wild ride, don't blink, you might miss something!
Amazing.
I loved the appearance of some characters from her other series, that is always special.
And eagerly waiting for Falcon to come so I can dive in!
