😊

30 years after the Empty Bodies series of books, Empty world follows Shell who knows nothing of the world before the apocalypse. Alone for the past five years, growing her own food and rearing her own animals for eggs and milk. She catches a thief, a young boy. While chasing him they run into a bunch of men determined to take what's not theirs. Being saved by a mysterious stranger and having to flee the only home she has ever known. Determined to take back what's rightfully hers, one way or another.
I haven't read all the empty bodies series. Up to book 3 or 4 if I remember right. This book can be read as a standalone though as it takes place 30 years in that future. Enjoyed the book a lot and it makes me want to go back and read the rest of the empty bodies series.

A look at Empty Bodies, 30 years out

I suggest that you read the 6-book series Empty Bodies first. While you could enjoy this book as a stand-alone story, there age Easter eggs tight this story that you won't get without having read the series.
So, it's 30 years out and we get to see what's up with things. Unfortunately, we really only get direct info on a few characters, and hints about others. I was satisfied with the former, a bit frustrated with the latter.
I understand to get a 30 year update on everyone, the author would have had to write a much longer book.
Maybe hopefully we'll get to enjoy another update.

So after a few years, we return to the world of Empty Bodies, a six book series that consistently got better with each book, zombie lore that was fully realized and a generally interesting take on well tread ground, that all culminated in a fantastic conclusion giving the reader a satisfying end to their time spent in the world.

So is it worth returning to? Well, absolutely, because Zach knows what he's doing. Above all else there are two specific reasons I believe this works so perfectly. First, you know how zombie stories like their time jumps? Looking at you Walking Dead and 28 Week Later. Well Zach doubles down and imagines a world thirty years after the precipitating event from the original series known as The Fall. It's a bold move and it pays off.

The second major reason is Shell. Shell is the main character. Shell is awesome...She's a hardcore survivor with a bow and arrow and maybe she owes some evil folks a bit of revenge. Enough said.

The supporting cast is mostly good, I stumbled a bit when new characters were introduced after I'd grown so fond of the main characters, but by the end I learned to love them all. They each get their moments to shine.

Probably most important to note is whether or not you can/should read the book if you didn't read the original series. Besides the fact that if you're interested in this, there's probably no reason to not be interested in the original series so you might as well read them all too, you would be perfectly fine using this as a jumping on point. Long time readers will be happy with the connections made to the original series (probably really happy) but you won't be confused at all if you're new.

Very exciting start to a new chapter in a fantastic character driven zombie series.

So Cool to go 30 yrs Beyond

......30 yrs past the last Empty Bodies was such a unique idea and I totally loved it, but man, don't leave us hanging!!!!! Please please please if you find the time let us know what Dylan's quest is. I'm going to lay awake at night wondering I just know it. On the other hand , I cannot thank you enough for all the hours of entertainment the "Empty Bodies" series gave me. The characters you created have stayed with me and I fell in love with most of them. I so look forward to any and all future works by Zach Bohannon. That's a fact Jack! 😉

I had to knock a star off for one reason …

I loved this book & the continuation from the series … however I am so “empty” not being able to find out what happened to Dylan between the series & this book !!!! I HAVE to writes at least one more to tell his story & how he went from his “family” to being so jaded & alone …. It bothered me the whole time waiting to hear at least an an abbreviated version of the last 30 years & how he got to this new person he was in this last book!! Other than that the series & this book were so worth the read!!!

EMPTY WORLD

A good addition to the Empty Bodies books. Takes place in the later years. The undead are still around but in lesser numbers. Groups of people can make a living off the earth farming. But living becomes unlivable when murderous thugs kill and pillage any place they come across.
I was wowed when I read who the cowboy wearing man was!! 👍

Brilliant

Having read the 6 book series, and now this one, I can highly recommend this author. I read 7 in a week and that is quick for me. Had me totally gripped. Speed reading at times because I was so anxious to see what happened next. Anyone interested in apocalypse books should definitely give this a read.

Interesting story

I will read more by this author. Has great potential. Not as well written as you would think from an experienced writer. Expound on your descriptive sections. I felt like they were going to take me there and the door was slammed on me.

Dylan

I liked Shel and loved seeing Dylan all grown up but where did his scars come from? Where are Mary Beth and Sarah? What happened that made him so sad and lost??

If you haven't read the Empty series yet, you should! A wonderful apocalypse tale, with plenty of characters you will root for, love, and several you will hate!

It was nice to see where one of the peeps from previous series was grown and surviving. I enjoy also seeing new characters entering the picture and can’t wait to read more.
