Versión del viaje es más que un diario de abordo, es la historia de una
mirada abierta al mundo, tan amplia que recoge al horizonte.
Claudia Becerra escribe de la migración, la condición isleña, el deseo,
la muerte, el temor y todos sus vínculos. La poeta se desdobla,
esperándose en ambas orillas como metáfora de la separación que
inaugura cada viaje. Cuando se apuesta a zarpar lo que se juega son
las profundidades, donde yacen los deseos, como un ahogado.
La vida, que mata y asombra, entonces no es distinta al mar, que
cerca a las islas como a nosotros la suma de los años. Claudia Becerra
escribe de abismos “grandes como grietas” y de un mar que cambia de
forma, a veces es límite, a veces “contenedor abierto”. Este poemario
es barco, faro, isla, marinero; no necesita sirenas.

Claudia Becerra

Claudia Becerra is a teacher and writer from Puerto Rico. She holds a bachelor's degree in Hispanic Studies with a minor in Gender Studies from the University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras Campus, and a Ph.D. in Latin American poetry from Brown University. Prior to UVM, she was an Assistant Professor in the University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras Campus, and taught all levels of Spanish language courses at The Calhoun School in New York. 

Between 2018 and 2022, she co-edited five volumes of The Puerto Rico Review, a print journal showcasing the work of writers and artists from Puerto Rico and its diasporas. More recently, in collaboration with artist Víctor Torres, she was recipient of a 2024-2025 "Máquina Simple" Fellowship, sponsored by Beta-Local, which will support the curation of an experimental film cycle in Puerto Rico, featuring the work of local contemporary artists.

Her academic and creative interests are broad and continually expanding, focusing primarily on the relationship between the human and non-human in literature and film. Her work has appeared in numerous journals, magazines, and newspapers, including Caribbean Studies, Inti, Words Without Borders, Rialta, Lucerna, América Invertida, Periódico Claridad, Cruce, among others. 

She has published two poetry collections: Sirenas  (2023, Riel Press) and Versión del viaje  (2018, Folium Press).
