Vampronica was cute in a Veronica is a Vampire sort of way. As far as horror goes, I think Blossoms: 666 has a much edgier feel to it and is something that actually gets me excited.
But for a fluffy-Buffy feel? Yes. This was good.

description

What the premise? Veronica Lodge becomes a vampire. Bada-boom.
While I found the story to be enjoyable, I think I was far more interested in the teaser issue of Jughead: The Hunger vs. Vampironica. That looked cool. And I didn't really like Jughead The Hunger, so...

Archie Comics' horror line has another winner in its hands with Vampironica. Greg and Meg Smallwood keep it simple, Veronica gets turned into a vampire but can somehow fight it and strives to stop the whole town from being turned into fang-food. The story is fun and fresh along the lines of an episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Greg Smallwood's artwork works really well in a horror comic too.

After walking in on a grisly scene at her father's mansion, Veronica Lodge is bitten and becomes... a vampire! Can she take out the head vampire and return things to normal?

On the heels of Afterlife with Archie and the 50% off sale the Archie shop was having, I grabbed this during a large impulse purchase of Archie horror books.

The premise is pretty much what the title indicates. Veronica is a vampire and has to deal with the situation. It felt like The Lost Boys meets Buffy to me.

The art by Greg Smallwood and Greg Scott gave the story a gritty, understated look with its subdued color palette. Visually, it was on the opposite end of the spectrum from Afterlife with Archie and Jughead: The Hunger but it worked very well. The story by the Smallwoods was good but there wasn't a lot of meat to it. It felt like three issues stretched into five. Also, I don't see how they'll be able to do more Vampironica given how it ended.

While not as substantial as other Archie horror books I've read, Vampironica was a fun read. Three out of five bloodsuckers.

I was a huge fan of Archie Comics growing up, and I'm loving the horror series they've come out with more recently. Afterlife With Archie is my favorite. Too bad it's looking like we'll never get anymore from that series. Anyway, that's actually one of the reasons I was so excited to hear about this one.

Veronica has always been my favorite character, and I'm obsessed with vampires. The combination of the two sounded like a damn good idea to me, and I wasn't wrong! It wasn't perfect, but overall, it was a fun, quick read with characters I know and love.

My only real complaint is the art style change. I loved the art in the first 3 issues, and then it changed to something I hated. I hope we get the art style I prefer in Vampironica New Blood, because I'll definitely be reading it!

Archie Comics fans, this one's for you!

"I know what you are, Veronica...you're a vampire!"

Vampironica was a quick & fun graphic novel. This is another entertaining addition to the Archie Horror universe. I wish it would have been a little bit longer, but it was a limited series. The ending seemed a bit finalized, but if they ever return to it, I'll definitely read more.

I adore this Archie horror spinoff graphic novels. You would think they would be super campy and dumb, but they are always surprisingly fresh and enjoyable reads. Normally, I don't love vampires, but Veronica pulled off the aesthetic. I liked that the nerdy student, Dilton, played a big role in this one and got a lot of respect for his expertise. I wouldn't recommend this one to anyone needing a break between more serious horror novels.

Vampironica is the next in the current line of Archie Horror books, and it's pretty straight forward - Veronica's turned into a vampire, and chaos ensues. Nice.

What Vampironica has over the other Horror series like Jughead: The Hunger and Afterlife With Archie (other than coming out regularly) is that it doesn't try to reinvent the Riverdale mythos. No one's a secret vampire hunter, no one's been a vampire this whole time, it's just a vampire turning up in Riverdale and mucking things up. It's easy to get into, and all of your favourite Archie characters feel well realised even across five short issues.

The fact of the Archie characters is that they're so malleable they can fit almost any premise, and Greg and Meg Smallwood use that to their advantage - they don't have to do a lot to characterize these characters, and they don't lean too hard on them. They just throw the situations at them, and let them go.

Greg Smallwood starts off on art, while Greg Scott takes up the final two issues. Smallwood's pencils have a bit more weight than Scott's, whose come across a little scratchy, but they both work cohesively and give the world of Vampironica a unique feel compared to the other series in the stable.

I'm surprised it wrapped up so quickly - I thought this was an ongoing series, like Jughead: The Hunger, but it seems like all is well after just five issues. I'm also interested to see how they pull off Jughead: The Hunger Vs. Vampironica as well, given that it's obvious they're set in very different universes. We'll see, I guess. In the meantime, Vampironica's a solid story that isn't out to re-write comics history, but is easy to pick up and get into.

Lots of fun and Rock´n´Roll :)

Writing comics with a view to graphic novel-sized arc makes for lousy storytelling. This is a fun three issue miniseries obviously padded out to five to make it more appealing as a trade. Greg Smallwood's art is really good but the book was running late and he's replaced for issues 4+5.

Fun!

Vampire Veronica! This was fun! I can’t wait to read more in the Archie Horror Universe! 5 stars for the story, 4.25 stars for the art, so I’m rounding this up to 5 stars overall!

That was entertaining. Much like an episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, popular girl Veronica kicks vampire ass and saves the day. Actually I am a little disappointed that so many characters survived what was otherwise a bloody horror - I mean who were all those vampires they dusted?

"Blech! This tastes like old hot dogs and farts!"

This was okay but nothing really stood out. The story was kind of monotonous and not unusual. There are other Riverdale Horror novels that are way better than this.

Zábavná a svižná jednohubka. Kresba prvních tří čísel je strašně nádherná, pro 4 a 5 se změnil kreslíř a k horšímu, o dost.

Well ok then....I've seen multiple people reading the "new" Archie comics. I finally decided to see what the fuss was about. I find myself still mystified that people like this banal "reboot". So Veronica is now a vampire (and somehow she also knows hand to hand combat) after being bitten and her parents turned as well. For some dumb reason, Veronica isn't under the control of her master. She then fights the "bad" vampires and cures herself after killing the master. Ugh. This was so unnecessary. Using an old comic to draw people ion for nostalgia value and then produce this silly mess is a good statement about the quality of newer comics. Well, at least I can say I did try it. Sad I did.

There's someone new in Riverdale and they have a taste for blood!

Veronica is one of the first to be bitten and turned into a blood thirsty vampire.

She will need the help of her friends to stand a chance at getting the vampires in Riverdale under control.

This is my first revamped Archie Horror graphic novel.

The artwork has definitely come a long way from the original comics and the vampires reminded me a bit of the ones from Buffy The Vampire Slayer.
The cover art at the beginning of each chapter was very cool as well.

Maybe it's just me or my lack of graphic novel experience but the artwork seemed to change halfway through, leaving Veronica looking different which seemed a bit unusual.

Jughead had me smiling a couple of times when he appeared with food at inappropriate times. (That is why he is my favorite character of the bunch.)

I will probably be starting Jugheads werewolf adventures next.

Overall I really enjoyed this one and it left me feeling nostalgic about the original Archie comics I loved as a kid!

I have always enjoyed the Archie universe. As a kid I can remember getting the little comics at the checkout line in the grocery store all the time. And Veronica was always my favorite! So you can imagine how pumped I was to see a Archie meets Horror with this installment of Vampironica.

It is a quick read and full of all the characters we've come to love over the years. It has all the Ronnie charm, wit, and sass you can imagine. I could have read even more to these if it were longer, but the way it ended definitely seemed like it would remain a limited series only. I can maybe see them turning this into something more with a "Buffy", vampire-hunting vibe if they want to. 4 stars!

While I am sure for long time Archie fans seeing their favorite characters in different circumstances must be a blast, I am not a long time Archie fan. In fact, I've never read an Archie comic, just watched the first/second seasons of Riverdale--so maybe not the right audience, but at the same time kind of the right audience. What I am trying to say is this story was okay, nothing revolutionary, but the art is spectacular and the colors are phenomenal!

You can definitely pick this story up and kind of figure out the Archie world--or at least where it is at today. Veronica is the child of the local rich guy, her and Bettie are actively competing for Archie's attention/love, Archie is loving the attention and pretty much along for the ride, Judhead likes to eat a lot (he was eating something in almost every single frame we get of him, which seems like a little too on the nose).

Veronica gets attached, turned into a vampire (by just one bite--no transfer of blood, but she did get in a car accident, so maybe her near -or actual- death experience pushed her over the vampiric edge? I know the details of vampirism aren't the point of the story but things like this bug me if they are not explained fully) and then must fight her inner urges for like a day and a half before someone else figures out for her that she needs to to kill the "master" vampire in order to revert everyone to normal.

Vampironica DEFINITELY takes some liberties in deciding which vampire rules they want to take seriously. As I said above it doesn't take much to turn people into vampires, a bite will do which is usually werewolf territory, Veronica is able to WALK IN THE DAYLIGHT (a big, if not the biggest, vampire no no, but it helps the story move along SO WHO CARES), and then there is some small talk about two different races of vampires (the Strogoi and Moroi, which took me back to Vampire Academy and made me want to do a re-read) that doesn't seem to really matter in the end because they could have easily skipped the whole thing made up their own rule and it would have turned out the same.

I also took issue with some of the dialogue. We are suppose to be rooting for Veronica, which for the most part I do -her character reminds me of a mix of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Jessica Jones- but then when she throws the "nerd" slur at one of her classmates cause how dare he try to explain in actuality what he was doing it kind of got under my skin and made me dislike her. She bounces back, but just barely, and by basically throwing money at the kid (which I guess is her thing, but again, I am supposed to ROOT for her).

Gotta say though, I loved the art and colors. They are terrific. The art looks both old school and totally neat/fresh. It is a fine line to walk, but Greg Smallwood definitely does it with flair.

Vampironica

Beautiful art provided by Greg Smallwood and writing by Meg Smallwood. The story at least has a satisfactory ending and everyone can go home. There are extra pages for art covers and a plug for Jughead the Hunger and Vampironica Vs Were-Jughead. A cute and easy read with gorgeous gothic art. A fun campy comic that came out in Covid.

Ch 1. Opens with Veronica fighting some vamps into a pool, great opening if you ask me. Then a flashback commences and we see that Veronica was bitten by a client of her father’s. She becomes a vampire and nearly bites Reggie but flees into the forest.

Ch 2.
Veronica stumbles through the woods and has nowhere to go after seeing Archie almost kiss Betty. She waits and sleeps in school and is found by Dilton. He finds out she is a vampire or at least slowly turning into one and helps her. Veronica has a strange dream about meeting the count who bit her and sees her friends dead. Moroi (zombie like undead vamps) and Strigoi (head vamp) are likely to be out and about.
Reggie is revealed to be a vamp as well!

Ch 3.
Dilton and Veronica infiltrate her manor, but the count is there and stops them (while attempting to kidnap/kill Archie). They escape and realize the vamps will target the Cheryl Blossom party! Jughead gets caught up in the drama and throws garlic bread at the head of a vamp.

Ch 4.
This is where the beautiful art changes- still nice but just not the same, Smallwood is replaced by Scott. Our gang crashes the party and fights off the vamps, throwing the count into a cross and holy water infested pool. He disintegrates but Veronica is still a vampire, meaning he wasn’t the head vampire. Verica returns to her manor and finds a giant spider! Cliff hanger into the next chapter.

Ch 5.
The spider was a hallucination! Meanwhile, the party goers are cowering in the pool to stay safe. Then the vamps start to drain the pool and we cut back to Veronica dealing with the vampire trying to throw her off with hallucinations of having no friends and Betty marrying Archie. Veronica fights through it and stabs the main vamp in their casket that was hiding in her basement. Everyone reverts back to normal! Everyone hugs and it's a cute easy ending.

Smash or pass the Count and Hiram Lodge? The art may sway your opinion.

3.5 maybe?
I really liked the concept and am a fan of the archie horror comics as a whole and want to read all of them tho this sorry was lacking for me it's all in the space of one weekend and there's a lot of cool places they could have taken it (maybe they will in other volumes) it was just lacking that bite to make you go "wow" or even "more please". And I don't like the romantic interests in the comics at all or the Ronnie vs Betty over a boy that's not worth it spect. It's very outdated. Tho I do know that's a big thing in archie universe and it's a really old comic series. I was just hoping the horror would do was the TV show did and give the characters perpuse and flesh them out a bit more since this is set in an ulternet time line and in modern times.
But I still enjoyed. My self while reading it was a bit of fun and I like seeing rivedale with a supernatural twist. And I did love the art work.

A fun title and quick read from Archie's horror universe. This first volume is an all-inclusive story featuring Veronica becoming a vampire and having to face the ultimate evil in order to save Riverdale. Vampironica is adjacent to Jughead: The Hunger, which may be confusing for readers as it does not take place in the same universe. More confusing is that there is a preview of issue 4 of Jughead: The Hunger as a bonus feature. There is also a crossover with the two books, though I'm interested to see just how they pull it off since each book has its own version of all the characters. Recommended for Archie Horror fans.

Archie Horror has explored zombies, witches, werewolves, satanists, and now vampires. And it's all been good.

This felt a little less fleshed out than the previous Archie Horror titles, but was still a good read. The art in these titles are always a good fit for the stories. In this one we see Veronica turned into a vamp, but in Vampirella fashion she manages to keep control of herself to fight the more evil vampires. This had a definitive ending of sorts, but there are sequels so somehow the story keeps going.

Jinak je to dobra akcni sranda plna akce, humoru a upiru. Jo bavilo me to ale je to takova easy jednohubka.

I was surprised how deep into Vampire mythology this book actually went - these aren't Twilight glittery creatures - I read Hellboy the day after and saw some of the same terms I hadn't previously been familiar with in terms of Vampire types. Veronica's always been a vamp in some form; making her a true vampire seems like a no-brainer. The story does some surprising things, and the regulars come up with some ingenious ideas (although I have some questions about holy water and dilution now). The art works although there are some issues with distinguishing secondary characters (the darker palette than you normally see for an Archie title doesn't help). The book also collects Issue #4 of Jughead: The Hunger, which is a flashback issue that was also interesting, and in keeping with the tone of the main series. It's not a particularly memorable series, but for an idea this outlandish, that's a decent level of praise.

Greg Smallwood makes it look good, obviously, but the story is very much going through the motions. I think this is it for me trying out new Archie Horror series by default, though doubtless books starring Moose as a golem, Dilton as Frankenstein and Gorgon Ethel are already in the works.
