Earlier this year I feel in love with A Dog Called Jack (you can find that review HERE). Then I learned there was a second one coming, so I proceeded to stalk the internet until I was able to find a release date overseas. I actually preordered this book from Book Depository which should tell you how excited I was since I rarely preorder books. It arrived at the end of October and I purposely saved it for the holiday season and I'm glad I did!
Once again the reader is pulled into a little area of world called Christmas Street. The area is quite magical and makes me long for a small, quaint neighborhood where people get along and lifetime friendships are made. Again, that says a lot since I'm basically a homebody. So when the book starts, we have fast-forwarded through some time. Libby is now living with Sam, who is anxious to propose and make everything official. The kids have started a new grade and have a new teacher, and they have taken it upon themselves to become neighborhood spies. There is a secretive new lady living in an older house on the street and a new handyman that has been "adopted" by the residents. And I can't forget to mention Libby's mother who comes to visit. She is totally every new husband's nightmare mother-in-law.
Just like the first book, A Wedding on Christmas Street was a good mixture of drama and humor. There were some very lighthearted parts as well as some serious issues the author chose to tackle. But whether the street was celebrating or in turmoil, they were doing it together. The friendships between an unlikely group of individuals is one of the things that Pembroke makes shine. I really can't think of any character I didn't like (well, the mother-in-law came close) and again, my favorite would have to be the grumpy old widow Bill. I love his cynicism and his grouchy exterior because he also has a soft interior which awaits discovery.
Finally there is Jack. I love Jack and while he is still the bond that holds the street together, he wasn't as prevalent as in the first book. Jack is still the street dog and everyone takes on a responsibility for him and while he is still around, of course you could guess that I wanted more. I do love that on most nights, Jack chose to sleep at Bill's. See, dogs CAN sense good human beings.
So overall A Wedding on Christmas Street was a perfect read for this time of year. I will be honest and admit I didn't quite love it as much as the first novel, but it is still a very strong and vert enjoyable read.
This was a brilliant follow on story and lovely to go back to the Christmas street. Full of Christmas spirit and plenty of romance and friendship and families. Perfect book to curl up and read. Sam wants to propose to his girlfriend but he wants to check with his son that he is happy with it all. Problem is all the neighbours try to tell him how to propose so will he get to do it his way and will she say yes. His son with his friend spy on the new neighbour who has moved into a run down house in the street. Millie the new neighbour is soon taken in with the Christmas spirit and just as she feels happy someone from her past shows up and will it change everything but everyone on the street is looking out for her so will this Christmas be full of hope and promise for a change.
We meet up with all the familiar inhabitants again, and there is a new resident too.
There is an empty run down house on Christmas Street, and a mysterious woman has suddenly rented it.
Teddy Bishop and Pari Basak, are making it their mission to find out more about the newest member of the street, but their many attempts are often thwarted.
But Christmas Street has always had an air of magic about it, and new neighbour Millie is soon drawn in to the many activities, albeit reluctantly.
Millie begins to relax, after all there is plenty going on as usual, Sam Bishop is ready to propose to his girlfriend, Libby Quinn, and wouldn't you know it ? The whole of Christmas Street is ready to get involved, including another new face Jasper Nketia, who has unwittingly become the street carpenter.
But someone from Millie's past, someone who she hoped she had left behind, turns up and she begins to feel unsettled all over again.
But as we all know by now, Christmas Street is a really special place, where everyone looks out for each other, and they're not going to let Millie be an exception.
Oh and ofcourse I'm not going to leave without mentioning everyone's favourite and constant companion, Jack the Christmas Street dog.
A lovely book and I look forward to reading the next instalment.
Sam wants to propose to girlfriend Libby, but soon the other residents of Christmas Street where they live join in the plans! What follows is a fun story of the proposal, engagement party and wedding.
We also meet new resident Millie, who seems to want to keep herself to herself. What is her secret, and will she join in the fun of Christmas Street?
A fun lighthearted read, with a writing style that took a little but of getting used to. Pleasant festive read.
It’s written beautifully. I felt like I was living on the street with the all the lovely neighbours. It took me a while to get into that’s the only reason why I’ve given 4/5 just took time to really dive into the story. Would recommend if you love Christmas themed & love friendly books.
I read the first book in this series last Christmas - I'm a sucker for festive stories - so read this this Christmas. Lovely, heart-warming and festive; the characters are added to this time and there is some conflict once more, but overall, this is a joy.
This is the second in the series. I gave it 5 stars as it is a sweet Christmas read. It moves slow in spots but I like sweet stories with quirky neighbors and a neighborhood dog that everyone shares.
I love these Christmas Street books. They are almost like reading fairy tales, well almost. In this one, the married men kissed far too often. It was thrown in your face and I didn’t appreciate it.
