The year is 2061 and V-Games, a virtual reality experience that feels exactly like the real thing, is at the heart of an improved society in the wake of a depression that came before it. The motives of the very secretive V-Games Company have been brought into question numerous times over the years but none more than now. A focal point for this is the upcoming trial of a child who was responsible for what the media had dubbed The Mall Massacre, where the child claimed that he thought he was in a V-Game when committing multiple murders. Matt Brodie also has his concerns since his flatmate, Jake, failed to return from the V-Game Championship. With the help of his friends: Pete (his other flatmate and pain in the arse), Billy (a fourteen-year-old computer whizz) and Gabby (Billy’s sister), he tries to uncover the truth what had happened to his friend. Apart from the challenges presented by the authorities, Matt also has to deal with his difficult employer and his very difficult V-Girl, Tracey. Matt’s relationship with Tracey is different to most V-Girl/Real Guy relationships as it is one of love and monogamy. Their relationship, however, becomes more difficult due to his attraction to Gabby and Tracey’s jealous and demanding attitude.
