A simple job. Low key. Investigate the mysterious deaths of two rich guys. No worries. Until spies and professional hitters started coming out of the woodwork, pointed my direction.
And discovered a man with special skills. Very special skills. Welcome to the world of Case Lee. A retired Delta operator unleashed into a world of deadly espionage and ultimate betrayal.
Fans of Lee Child’s Jack Reacher, Tom Clancy, Vince Flynn’s Mitch Rapp, and Robert Ludlum’s Jason Bourne will love the Case Lee series.
It’s a simple and valid answer when the question pops up, “Why do you write?”
At the end of the day, it is to tell a good tale.
Vince Milam has lived all over the world, traipsing through the Amazon, Congo, and Papua New Guinea—all the while demonstrating bourbon has medicinal qualities. Raised in Texas, he lives in the mountainous West where he proves—annually—that God doesn’t want us driving on snow. He relishes great reads, fine trout streams, family, old friends, and—especially—writing fast-paced thrillers that keep you up at night.
‘A simple job, Case. Investigate the deaths of two high-net-worth individuals. Rich dudes.’
Idaho author Vince Milam retains as much mystery about his background as he imbues in his supernatural mystery thrillers. From his resume, only the following offers a few facts: ` I live in the Intermountain West where soaring mountains and vast high deserts give a person plenty of room to think. I've lived and worked in over twenty-five countries around the globe, am a certified Wellness Coach, have a coterie of dear friends and family that provide succor and support, and have an old dog that is also a best buddy. I have an affinity for characters of all stripes, and strive to bring out the uniqueness of my literary protagonists.'
Vince states `All in all, life is a joy and I am so very lucky to be a part of this world we live in' and yet his new novel continues along the path of his series he titles A Case Lee Novel. The question arises, `can a man so positive in this manner of approaching life grasp the darkness of evil?' Now Vince continues his series – the Case Lee Novels of which this is Book 3 THE CARIBBEAN JOB and the answer, fortunately for his readers, is an `absolutely Yes'. Vince ‘s manner of conducting a suspense filled thriller with overtones of Spirituality is refreshing to say the least. His language grows more eloquent with each new book and his ability to retain memories of the early books of the series enhances this story – but the book is quite easily a stand alone novel, so well crafted has Vince made the plot.
The story is condensed as follows: ‘A simple gig. Low key. Investigate the mysterious deaths of two rich guys. No worries. Until professional hitmen start coming out of the woodwork. Guided by a deep-cover mastermind. With Spookville poking their bloody fingers in the pie. Great. Just freakin’ great. Welcome to the world of Case Lee, retired Delta Force operator. Stuck nose-deep in the muck and mire of a trillion-dollar deal, tightrope espionage acts, and very real pirates of the Caribbean. Just another day at the office. Case ignores sound advice to let other high-powered players handle the situation. With his family in danger, he takes matters into his own hands. And affords his enemies the opportunity to discover something. You can mess with a lot of people on this good earth. But you don’t mess with Case Lee.’
One of the many aspects that make Vince such a successful novelist is his spectrum of characters he deftly create – ‘A large man, his shoulders sloped. A surgeon, maybe. A career spent leaning over an operating table. The dim light created a challenge discerning more detail. But as we approached each other he passed through a cone of light and the danger claxon sounded. No natural arm movement accompanied his gait, hands locked along his side. As we closed distance it became clear he’d pulled the scrubs over his pants. And he wore leather sandals. Not hospital footwear. My shooter’s partner. Had to be.’
Vince Milam is now recognized as one of the major writers of suspenseful novels writing today. Polished to a fare-thee-well, this novel is his best yet.
So much intrigue and twists. Have loved getting to know that characters that surround Case Lee, from his Delta team to his family. I like that Bo might have a love interest. I have a questioning thought about Case Lee’s dead wife, and who has the bounty on his and his teams head.
Already chomping at the bit to get the next book in the series.
This is a thriller based around a private operative who does problem solving based on his experience as a former Delta Force member. He is hired to look into the deaths of two men through a broker and finds himself stalked by killers and getting deeper and deeper into international politics as he goes. And after his previous few jobs, he's been trying to take it easy.
Case Lee is a combination of deadly killer and soft hearted nice guy, the kind of guy who can take his mentally challenged sister to sea world and discuss whether a turtle and a dog can be best friends, and yet take out five or six guys in a gunfight without blinking. It works pretty well because unlike some of his companions he has to get into a zone where he can kill and move on, and it haunts him afterward.
A tough, deadly guy who'd really rather just be a good guy caught in some pretty ugly situations, Case makes his way through a variety of troubles to resolve the situation. He has many old contacts from his previous work that he calls on but ultimately has to face things by himself and the outcome is never really certain.
A decent thriller, with a lot of background info and technical thoughts mixed in well along with the action. In some ways it reminds me of the TV show Burn Notice, with things never going quite as planned, the protagonist deadly but likable while he explains bits about the job most people might not be aware of.
This is the 3rd Book in the Case Lee series and the author uses his experiences of having worked in the Caribbean to write a very interesting and enjoyable book. The rules written and unwritten on the island is very interesting. The economy is old School, cash accepted but not credit cards and the existence of Pirates running the oceans. What is really amazing is the Psyche of the Lee, when he was an active member of the Delta Force, he killed people without hesitation, now as a private operative he hesitates to kill people and it bothers him. His old Brothers from the unit when called upon to kill people they do so without hesitation. Only two of them have normal lives( Marcus and Catch). Case on occasion must work with and sometimes for the CIA. Great book and I look forward to the next book
“The Caribbean Job: A Case Lee Novel”, is a well-conceived and deftly executed Book 3 of the Lee series by author Vince Milam. Coming off the previous novel “The New Guinea Job”, the mysterious Case Lee wanted some changes in his assignments, even though he still has a ‘million-dollar bounty’ on his head and on three of his friends from his previous life. He lives on the “Ace of Spades”, works for an equally mysterious company, Global Resolutions, and in this adventure is charged with investigating the deaths of two rich guys, while posing as an insurance investigator. But Lee has stepped into strange circumstances that will test his skill in many different ways, putting him in extreme danger, kicking in his survival instincts. Five DANGEROUS Stars. Kindle. 250 pages.
A new exotic locale for another round with danger as Case tries, unsuccessfully, to reduce the violence in his job. A quick trip to the Caribbean to investigate a death opens the door to a terrorist attack, a double-dealing CIA manager, and multiple attempts on Case's life. The story includes Bo and the other friends from the Delta Team. An FBI agent becomes a love interest for Bo as his cosmic need becomes for a soul lover. Whether horseplay or formal the conversations provide entertainment and comic relief. Every bit as good as the first two Case Lee books.
My husband and I are absolutely loving these books, and the characters in them. Vince Milam takes you to such great places not only in the countries that Cass Lee travels, along with Bo, Marcus, & Catch. But he brings you inside the minds and lives of these brothers and where they’re been, and what they must do to keep those around them safe, while staying under the radar. Not an easy task with a million dollar bounty hanging over your head, and the need to find answers. I find myself falling asleep with a book in my hand every night because I just can’t put it down. So I ask myself🤔 Where will Cass lead me on the Amazon Job!!!!!!! Pam M Cape Coral, FL
Two very rich guys, entrepreneurs and very dead. It certainly seemed a strange thing asking Case to look into these deaths and report on them and the state of affairs. Until it comes out that the first guy was murdered. As likely the second one. And suddenly Case is in the midst of ducking and scrambling to escape being a fatality as well for a mysterious bounty hunter set on his trail in the Caribbean. I loved the other new face that rocked up, i.e. one FBI agent dubbed JJ. I will keenly follow that name in follow on books in this very active thrilling series series by author Vince Milam. Enjoy.
An interesting read, but too short. The Chinese should have been worked into the story more, with their assassin's getting into the hunt for Case. The attack on the rogue CIA agent was not very believable. Someone involved in such clandestine activity would have have many more people and very high tech surveillance systems protecting him. Also, the fumbling and bumbling that Case did would not be done by a former Delta Force operative, even a retired one.. Please work harder at making your stories more believable.
This story is my favorite, so far, of Mr Milam's three books that I have read. I lived in the USVI for a little while, a different, smaller island. So it was fun for me to revisit my own memories. This book definitely has plenty of excitement! I seemed to read it very fast! That's what happens when you are engrossed in a fast moving book. The story involved a couple of very scary what ifs. Hence, the fast moving and fast reading! I enjoyed this book and highly recommend it.
The newest novel in the Case Lee series does not disappoint. It starts after his New Guinea experiences and brings him to the Caribbean. Thinking he is taking a mission that will be easy and danger free, Case soon finds himself back in perilous situations involving clandestine organizations, terrorists and attempts on his life. Lots of action and plot twists and will keep you on the edge of your seat wondering what happens next. Highly recommended.
I am an avid reader and I actively seek out new series and characters on a regular basis. I have seen the Case Lee books advertised but for whatever reason, I passed them up. A week ago I had just finished Vince Flynn’s “Enemy of the State” and decided I needed someone that could compete with Mitch Rapp. So I gave this series a shot. I make a lot of poor decisions in life but this was not one. Read them all and enjoy.
I find these to be “can’t put down” variety. I have connected with the universe of characters and have roundly enjoyed keeping no up with their adventures. (Spoiler alert) case is off on his own,ore in this story, and spends a little more time with existential questions, but the plot is also deeper, more complicated than the others in the series. Would he Guly recon do for fans of Reacher, Bosch, and Bourne!
I love the sense of place in each Case Lee novel evoking such vivid imagery! And the character development. And the suspense. And the pace. And the fact that the author doesn’t use that horrible fiction device of making us, the readers bond with a character and then killing the character off. I hate that, too much like real life.
CAN’T WAIT FOR THE NEXT EPISODE OF CASE LEE’S STORY!
What I like most about the Case Lee series is the way the author describes the scenery of each location. I haven’t visited most of them but, living on an island, I could taste the atmosphere both in St. Thomas and racing from San Andres. The story lines resemble each other too much to my taste but, having read the last of the series, I now better understand the tread. Looking forward to your next series
Third book and although an enjoyable read starting to see some formulaic writing. I understand backstory for those readers that may start in the middle of a series but when you start repeating the exact same paragraph it smacks of just trying to fill a page. The mystical stuff with Bo is a little tiring also.
That said I enjoy this series, like the characters, and will continue to read and follow.
Just finished book three and fascinated with how the series and the characters are growing in depth with each book. Each one is stand alone but best read in order. The writing is crisp, clean and every word carries weight. The characters randomly espouse profound statements that often require re-reading to get the full impact. Mr. Milam is quickly becoming a favorite author and writer.
I have no idea how I ended up with this book. Only occassionally do I read thrillers and when I do, I enjoy them, even as I don't need to read another one for a year or two.
This one is not badly done. It holds your attention and has twists and turns to keep things moving.
It's about a former Delta operator who is tring to figure out a massive conspiracy he's uncovered. If you like thrillers, give it a try. Apparently, this is part of a best selling series.
Vince Milam's Case Lee adventures just get better and better. The Caribbean Job is a fine tale of good vs. evil and of all the shades of gray in between. Milam's characters are razor sharp, his action scenes are heart pounding, and his ability to place the reader in Case's exotic locations is cinematic. Highly recommended.
The action is intense. The protagonist more than competent, with the flaw of always taking the aggressive straight ahead path. Personal flaw, not a story flaw. It generates more interest. Would rate it 5 stars except much of the dialog is curt, clipped, and almost incomprehensible. Makes for a rough read in parts.
Loved the action , intrigue and hero's. There was humour and love of brothers forged in adversity and love of family. Cannot wait to find out who placed the bounty on our hero's and whether Bo finds his love if the universe and the cosmos allow it.
I enjoyed these books. It’s a fun series and reads easy. I really liked the characters relationship with his sister and her dog. I love dogs so anyone who loves them, or people who love dogs are fine with me. Plus Case is a tough guy former Delta Operator (are there any novels with tough heroes who are not former Delta Operatives?) who makes the stories move along. I recommend these books.
Enjoyable series of novels. I like the back story of Delta Force A And the ongoing continued relationship with his team. The boat life and locale along the southern waterways is fun and a bit unfamiliar to a west coaster. I especially like case's relationship to his family and his little sister.
I plan to continue my read through the whole series.
Actually, a pretty good read. There is lots of action, some maybe a little far fetched, but action. Bo is just too much, but that's part of the story. The double grey goose is believable. I think I'll read the next Case Lee adventure just to see what happens next.
Very good read with curious plot line; both new and familiar characters. The series is evolving input to a must-Read that I trust Milam to fulfill for a long while.
The series has the hook set in my reader psyche. While I read every day, the amount of time varies. Still it's fairly easy to jump into the without needing to fret. Nice work, Vince.
I hadn't read a Case Lee book in some time, so I picked up "The Caribbean Job" and loved it. Wonderful summer reading. . . what the heck . . . at any time of the year!
Action packed . . . start to finish. . . Great cast of former "Delta" amigos and fast action. You can never go wrong with Case Lee and Vince Milam!
This is my 3rd read of the Case Lee Series. I'm averaging one every six months. I see a lot of similarities between each book for basic plot and climax. If I read them closer together, they would be redundant. However, at my current rate they are excellent examples of refreshing, contemporary, exciting adventures.
The only thing I didn’t like about the book was it being too short! I absolutely recommend all of the Case Lee books. They are all on my very short list. I love the dialogue, the characters and of course the locales. Thank you Vince for a great series.
Good tale with enough action to keep one more than interested and reading more. Life on the Ditch of interest as I have considered precisely that in the past although without the extras in this story.
