Matchmaker #3

Her Alpha Mismatch

Rate this book
Like many fox shifters, Regina Woodward is stuck in the fifties. She loves vintage clothing and classic movies. What she doesn’t love is controlling male foxes who expect perfect homemaker wives. She’s just about given up on ever finding a mate when her friend Nessa, the local matchmaker, suggests she date Oscar Torres.

An alpha bear.

Regina’s mother would have a conniption just hearing about it.

Not that Regina’s sure she wants to hook up with Oscar anyway, seeing how he’s closed-off emotionally. But when he asks for her help to save a wild fox-shifter who has been getting into trouble up north, Regina can’t refuse. And the more time she spends with Oscar, the more she loses her heart.

To an emotionally constipated bear her only remaining family is going to hate.

There’s no way this ends well—is there?

Content Warning: This book contains lots of sexy shifter action. Intended for a mature audience only

This is another well written, entertaining paranormal romance featuring characters we first met in The Bear’s Matchmaker. This time around it’s Regina, a fox shifter who seeks the aid of Nessa, the shifter matchmaker. Regina is shocked to discover that Nessa believes Oscar Torres could be her mate. Oscar has a reputation as a violent alpha bear, whose fierce beast rules his pack through fear and intimidation. At first reluctant to spend time with Oscar, Regina eventually comes to see the humanity in him but puts aside any thoughts of a romance due to her restrictive fox shifter upbringing. After spending time with Regina, Oscar begins to realize some truths about himself; his relationships with women and with his pack. Despite their obvious attraction, can these two shifters with such different cultural backgrounds work through their misunderstandings to find a future together? This story delivers some laughter, drama, intrigue, and some steamy scenes!

This was a good story to read after the last one I read in this series. These two, Regina and Oscar, may be mismatched but they belong together, no matter what people have to say about them being together. Fate never fails and with these two mates, it definitely didn't make a mistake 🤗💖

Oscar and Regina can't seem to fight fate. They keep getting drawn together.

I really enjoyed them as a couple as they do have great chemistry. The author lets you see them for who they are and watch them learn to appreciate one another. They make each other stronger.

Unlucky at finding a mate, Regina Woodward laughed as her friend Nessa mentioned Oscar Torres, Alpha of the Santa Cruz pack, as a potential match for her. Oscar’s reputation alone would make her hold off! She knew she wasn’t meant for love, and a matchmaker would not do her any good. Her mother wanted her to marry a fox shifter, but there were so few of them out here. And she wasn’t sure she could tolerate the 50’s mentality they had about being a commodity for the man, married off as housekeeper and cook. She wanted movies, books, and love. So she threw herself into her work at the library so she didn’t have to think about being lonely.

Oscar Torres got a report from Jorge and Red that there was a wild shifter wandering streets and pilfering trash between Oscar’s territory and Big Basin. Oscar would like to help him, invite him into the pack, but most of his shifters were big and strong. This red fox might not be a good fit for his pack and he didn’t want to make things worse for the fox.

As Regina cleaned up the books from the reading session with the children, she saw Oscar Torres walk in! He chatted with her but didn’t tell her why he was there. She assumed Nessa may have mentioned that he was Regina’s perfect match, and commented on how “audacious” that was! But he calmly asked why she thought so, and she blushed furiously. He tried to indicate he had a question about the fox shifter, but he didn’t want to say “shifter” in a public place. She misunderstood and got angry. Oddly, his bear was furious, wanting to make things right for her – but she was not of his pack nor a date? His bear shouldn’t be so worked up??

Oscar tried again to talk to Regina about the wild fox shifter he wanted to help. He waited in the library parking lot, then they walked. When he told her about the shifter, she seemed scared and he held her until she pushed away. He didn’t know that she had scented yet another fox shifter nearby and it was evidently following her! And if the fox shifter was unmated, he could propose marriage to her, and she definitely did not want to be bonded and committed to such a boring, empty, and dull life. Filled with indecision, she needed to decide what to do. Go with Oscar to find the wild fox shifter? Maybe convincing the other fox following her that she was “with” Oscar so it would leave her alone? Or would she actually find herself being attracted for real to Oscar who was beginning to have feelings for her?

I enjoy this series, and this story in particular was good. Good story line, good pacing, good character development! Seeing now familiar characters again made it even more interesting. I wanted Regina to finally find her happiness – will she do that in this book? Grab your copy and see how things turn out for her!

I can gush about this book as much as I would like an people still wouldn't believe me I don't want to sound too sappy so I'm going to dial it back a notch.

Totally surprised about the content of this book Her Alpha Mismatch. This is like the third book in the series and I was kind of expecting some of the same old storyline parameters but the author took this book for me in a different direction. The characters were or should I say gave the appearance of being strong-minded strong-willed people when you look back they were almost a contradiction to that process because they both had insecurities that they had not fully addressed.

Loving the dynamic that the author put in the book allowed you to watch Oscar and Regina blossom or grow into different people that they showed outwardly. You get a sense of of satisfaction and growth from their actions.

The story kept me entertained from beginning to end there were light moments between friends but there is laughter and joy and jealousy. There were times that you had the introspection what their life was like now and what they hope for the future again you're getting growth within story to keep the reader engaged.

Towards the end of the book you see that both characters come to an understanding about their natures they see that a cycle that started now needed to have a stop put to it and being able to step out of your comfort zone and assist would make their lives better.

Loved it

Regina is happy for her friends. Lia and Miles have a baby on the way and makes her feel like family. Monica and Nikolai are in love and their pack is settling down. Monika is happy her alpha is happy, even if it's not with her. Monica knows she will never have that kind of happiness, Fox shifters mate fox shifters. Worse their mating are arranged by their families. Her mom, while unconventional in letting her find her own mate she isn't going to wait forever.
Nessa is supposed to be looking for a fox shifter for Regina. She has other ideas. Nessa, wants to match her to a bear, a alpha. Not just any alpha but the most feared on the west coast. Oscar Torres.
Red and Jorge bring news of a wild Fox shifter. Oscar knows he is going to need help bringing him/her to the pack. Regina is the only fox he knows. Regina reluctantly agrees.
Regina and Oscar are drawn to each other, but don't trust their feelings. They have both Loved and lost. How can they be mates. Fox shifters don't have mates. Oscar's pack is broken. He doesn't have a connection to them. His name and reputation gives them a safe place and nothing more. Regina wants more. She wants family.
Then they find the wild Fox shifter and things get way more complicated.
Loved Regina and Oscar's story. They create an unconventional family in their unconventional pack., thanks to some help from their friends and Red and Jorge.
I love Emilia's books, they are an automatic buy for me. I can't wait for the next book.

The third installment of the series. As opposed to the first 2, this one did not have as much action in it but was more emotional. The matchmaker Vanessa, matches fox shifter Regina with alpha bear Oscar. Regina is reluctant due to the emotional coldness that Oscar presents. We follow as they hunt a lone fox shifter that is roaming with intentions to invite it to join Oscar's pack. Regina is not so sure that it would be the best for the shifter due to the dynamics of his pack. When they find out that they are destined mates there are even more difficulties, Regina wants Oscar to be more open and save the fox shifter. Oscar knows that he needs to be more open not only with his new found mate, Regina, but that in order to keep her, he must make peace with his past and become the alpha that his clan needs.
Even though a part of a series, you do not need to read the others. Ms. Hartley mentions characters from the other stories but does give context to them. I do recommend to read the others in the series, as it is always best to know the world and characters you are reading about. Cannot wait for the next one.

I think this series gets better and better, though I think it is going to come to an end soon, sigh. In this installment we have Nessa the matchmaker putting forth the Alpha Oscar as a mate for fox shifter Regina. She immediately says "No." She has been down this road before with Nickolai. As much as she wants to find a mate, a non-fox mate, she knows it is not meant to be. Foxes married foxes, the end. These marriages are usually arranged for the purpose of birthing kits and taking care of a house, not love.

Oscar has never considered that he needed to find a mate. He is convinced that he found her years earlier and lost her when she was killed in a car accident. When he finds out that Nessa has matched him with Regina he starts to question whether he is ready to give up his admittedly lonely life and find someone to share it with. He finds that his bear is crazy about Regina. He is not happy to find that she thinks his leadership style has much room for improvement. Find out what happens as these two struggle to discover their happy-ever-after.

I was given an advanced copy of this book by the author. My review is voluntary.

Regina tells the match maker Nessa to remove her profile when she calls her in to tell her that bear alpha Oscar is her match. Regina wants to meet another fox but it doesn't seem like its going to happen. When Oscar approaches Regina at work she assumes its because they've been matched and tells him that they don't need to worry about it. However he was wanting her help in bringing a fox shifter into his pack not talk about a match. Yet he couldn't stop thinking about what she said especially since he hadn't signed up for the service. Regina agrees to help him and the more time they spend together looking for this fox shifter the closer they get to each other. Not long before they end up in bed together but will either admit they have feelings for the other? Can they have a good relationship being different shifters?

This is a great story and once I started it I couldn't put it down. The chemistry between Oscar and Regina is off the charts hot. This is a well written story and very entertaining. I would recommend this story to any book lover.

Regina is a fox shifter and loves the 1950's styles except being for being a 'perfect 1950's wife'!  She doesn't want a fox shifter as a mate and husband -  definitely not for her. So when the matchmaker suggests she have a date with an alpha male bear shifter she is very surprised to say the least!  But Oscar is gorgeous and there is just something about him...  When he asks her for help she can't stop herself from saying YES.  Emilia Hartley knows exactly how to draw me into her stories [and since she is a top US best selling author, it's obviously not just me who loves her stories].  Her storylines are unique and the way she she builds her characters right in front of you so that you feel as if you almost know them.  Oscar and Regina are just so good together with plenty of passion and fun!  As Oscar was my favourite type of paranormal creature, a bear shifter, I was naturally looking forward to reading the book but it was so much more than just him and a thoroughly good story!  I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Definitely recommended

Another fantastic shifter romance by Emilia Hartley I honestly don’t know how she does it all the time bringing hit after hit out and this story His Alpha Mismatch is no exception. Regina works as a librarian and she’s a fox shifter she doesn’t want to be mated to another fox shifter because all they want is a wife to do the housework and that’s so 50s. There’s a report going around that there’s a red fox taking scraps out of the bins and Regina feels like she’s being followed, in steps Oscar he’s a bear shifter who goes to the library to ask Regina questions but she takes things the wrong way. Regina believes that this red fox is her responsibility and she will help Oscar look for it. That’s all I’m going to give you guys but there is so much more to this story to keep you entertained and turning the pages. A fantastic story a 5 plus ⭐️ read and I highly recommend this book it’s definitely well worth the read.

Her Alpha Mismatch
Emilia Hartley
Regina is terrified her mother will phone and tell her she has to marry another fox shifter. She has made a life for herself with a job and her own house and holds tightly to her independence. While having dinner with friends she realises they have also invited an alpha bear shifter Oscar who needs in her opinion help in managing himself as well as his ‘family’. She takes it on herself to tell him some home truths, falling for him at the same time. Big tough Oscar is not as mean and ruthless as she’s heard, he seems to be falling a little for Regina! Meantime they have a fox to save and so they are putting this before their own needs. Or, sort of. This is a story of what the heart wants versus the head roller coaster. Sometimes overthinking isn’t as necessary as you insist, Regina found out after overthinking her whole life. I was given this book but the review is my own.

Another great story about the matchmaker, Nessa. Only this time Nessa feels that Regina, a fox shifter, is suited to Oscar Torres, a bear shifter. At her job later at the library, she notices Oscar loitering nearby. He asks for her help but she is so perturbed about the idea of being matched to him she is a tad upset and not receptive to him or his plea. That night at a dinner at her friends, Oscar shows up as another guest. Later while outside Oscar again speaks with her. She agrees to help. They leave to try to find the fox shifter. On the journey the two open up some of their pasts to each other and at the same time there are inner demons working.
Another fantastic story on the matchmaker who does wonders.

I truly loved ths story! How it explored how sometimes we can be so blinded by one thing that we can't see the other until it's right on top of you. Oscar waclosed off and felt that their was no light in the world when he lost the woman he thought was his mate. Well Mss Regina Woodwoard and his bear showed him the light. He felll so hard for this foxy lady that it stunned him. He wondered if he clould love again
Regina is a fox shifter who was told to simply accept her fate. Well shewasn't having that and she felt alone was better until Oscar Torres fell nto her lfe. She started feeling things for the bear shifter she felt was forbidden.
This story of finding love and holding on with both hands will make you swoon with a crazy joy. The best shfter story I have read to date. Another gem by the talented pen of Ms.Hartley

This is the third book of the series and the story of the second bear alpha out of the three that were fighting for the coastal territory belonging to Lia and Miles. Oscar has the reputation of being a bloodthirsty leader that rules with an iron fist. I began seeing a different type of man he is during the first book when he kidnapped Lia. Regina, a fox shifter and member of Nikolai's pack, is on a rescue mission with Oscar to save a young fox shifter in trouble. During this mission they both will learn that life can always change. You just have to find it in yourself and make it happen. oh, and if you find the love of your life, don't let anything stand in your way. Regina a fox shifter is having trouble finding a mate fox shifters are rare and she doesn't know if she would suit the lifestyle anyway so she goes to a local shifter matchmaker and she says the local alpha bear Oscar is the perfect match, thinking this is a crazy idea Regina pulls her profile off the sight. Oscar is searching for a fox shifter that is causing damage in thelocal area and keeps running into Regina when he accidently hurts her his bear as a bad reaction. What is happening these two mismatched shifters did Nessa know what she was talking about when they have to undertake a trip together things come to a head Will they get a HEA you need to read to see.

I received this book with the understanding that I could leave a voluntary and honest review.

In this book we meet Regina Woodward and Oscar Torres. What do you do when 2 totally different shifters are told they should date? Do they give it a shot or do they run in the opposite direction? What if they need one another to help another shifter before real trouble comes to them all? Can they find a way to not only work together but find a HEA or will outside influences make that impossible?

This is another amazing hit from this author. There are ups and downs that I really want to tell you about. However I don't want to ruin the story for any other readers. I will say this book will have you hooked from the first word to the very end. I would highly recommend it to anyone and everyone.

Regina was raised to believe that marrying someone other than a fox was taboo. Oscar keeps his pack together by fear and doesn't realize what is happening. One little cat has determined they are mates and matches them up. Will Oscar be able to turn his pack into a family? Will Regina be able to let go of what she was taught to follow her heart?

Loved how there was more to both of these characters than what you could see at first glance. Oscar had already shown that he might possibly have a heart buried underneath his coldness, but I loved seeing him blossom. I loved how strong and determined Regina was not to follow the fox laws and that she was willing to be alone rather than marry for something other than love! Great read!

foxy lady grumpy bear

Been looking forward to this story ( or at least to the story about this alpha ) and it doesn't disappoint at all. A fiery foxy lady , a grumpy discontented bear and a goth typical teenager in danger of a forced marriage ...what can possibly go wrong ???? This series has been a delight from start to finish and this one is no exception If you like your heroines strong and your heroes faulty but alpha all the way then this is perfect for you . It can be read as a stand alone but if you haver read the earlier books you will understand the dynamics better

A great addition to the Matchmaker series

Regina, a librarian, goes to the local matchmaker and is matched with Oscar, local bad a$$ Alpha bear shifter, and decides to pull her profile since that is not the match she needs. As the story progresses both Oscar and Regina keep meeting each other and are both forced to take a journey for differing reasons. With secrets unveiled, plot twists and turns, Her Alpha Mismatch brings another great addition to the Matchmaker series with another seemingly odd couple. Now let's see if Nessa can get a match of her own.

Another Great Book from Emilia Hartley

I voluntarily reviewed an arc of this book. I enjoyed reading “Her Alpha Mismatch”, it’s the 3rd book in the (Matchmaker Series) by Emilia Hartley. I loved the interesting, engaging chemistry between the characters, Oscar & Regina and also the way they interacted with each other. I really liked them and enjoyed reading their story, they really make this a page turner. This is an Enjoyable, Entertaining, Must Read Romantic Story

OUTSTANDING !!! I LOVE THE STORY AND THE MAIN CHARACTERS; REGINA AND OSCAR !!
YOU DO NOT THINK THAT THESE TWO CAN WORK, ALL THROUGH THE STORY YOU SECOND GUESS YOURSELF BUT WHEN YOU THINK YOU HAVE IT WORKED OUT YOU REALISE IT DOES NOT FIT THE SCENARIO SO YOU SWITCH ON TO ANOTHER THEORY !! REGINA CAN NOT REFUSE OSCARS REQUEST FOR HELP TO SAVE A WILD FOX SHIFTER; THE MORE TIME SHE IS WITH HIM THE MORE SHE FEELS FOR HIM, SHE IS LOOSING HER HEART TO THIS BEAR WHO IS EMOTIONALLY CLOSED OFF !!
I SUGGEST YOU GET THIS BOOK AND DIVE RIGHT IN TO GET THE WHOLE STORY !!! I WILL BE READING THIS AGAIN !!!

Oscar's Perfect Match

Her Alpha Mismatch by Emilia Hartley is book 3 of her Matchmaker Series. Regina is a fox shifter and part of Nikolai's pack. Oscar is the alpha of the Santa Cruz park and a bear shifter. What kind of match could they be? According to Nessa a perfect match. Their story is wonderful. It's everything I had hoped Oscar's match would be. I would have given it 5 stars if it weren't for the editing issues. There are several throughout the book, which is a pet peeve of mine. The storyline however is great. I can't wait to read the next book. I'm hoping Nessa gets her own book soon.

An enjoyable shifter romance with a difference. When a strong Alpha bear has an epiphany about his life and the pack, can he bring the sassy fox shifter into his world? Great characters with enough strength to accept the flaws in each other and find the ability to change where necessary. I loved Regina and Oscar’s banter and I especially enjoyed the elevator scene. Interesting storyline that keep your interest from start to finish. Highly recommend this book.

This is the 3rd book in the ‘Matchmaker’ paranormal series and it is a riveting read … finally got Oscar’s story and he is a teddy bear. It is emotionally deep and beautifully written with a well-developed, consistent, engaging plot. The characters are strong-willed, loveable, and a little broken; but together they make a perfect match. The story moves at a brisk pace; it is so interesting that before you know it, you are at the end with a goofy smile. Highly recommended. This is book three in the matchmaker series and boy is it a brilliant addition to the series. She is a librarian and she decides to go to a matchmaker and is matched with Oscar who is the local alpha bad boy bear shifter. Regina decides to pull her profile as this was not what she expected. As the book go on these two keep meeting and both are forced to take a journey but for different reasons. Great twists and turns that will keep you hooked in.

This is a well written shifter story with an interesting plot. The author brings strong characters in Regina and Oscar, gives them a hot chemistry and takes them on an action filled adventure. The steam between these two is hot and the romance sweet. Alpha Mismatch features Regina, a fox shifter, and Oscar, the Alpha bear shifter of Santa Cruz. Both have pain and loss in their pasts and are leery of a new relationship. Drawn to each other, Regina and Oscar soon find themselves working together to help another fox shifter. As always Emilia Hartley writes wonderfully expressive characters that make you wish they were your friends. It’s a quick read with appearances from all the characters in the previous books of this series.I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

A really good shifter romance.💞🐻🦊💞

This book had me giggling a few times because of how Regina would shut Oscar down when his ego would get too big. But on the flip side, I cried along with them when they finally started sharing things with each other. I really enjoyed seeing how two people with such strong personalities learned to adapt to each other and let each other thrive together. 💕💓💕

This book is the third book in a series but I think it could be read as a standalone fairly easily.
