Anne has written her entire life and has the boxes of angst-filled journals and poetry to prove it. She’s been writing for public consumption for the past several years. She lives in rural East Texas with her husband and children in her own private oasis, where she prides herself in her complete lack of social skills, choosing instead to live with the people inside her head.
Currently, she has five romance series. Playing with Fire explores the trials and tribulations of a small team of fire fighters in the fictional mountain town of Pamona Gulch. In Pierce Securities, she gives us Ryan, Evan, Miriam, Zack, Quinten, Jordan, Hollerman, and Simon. Her favorite series, Book B!tches, is all about a group of women in Mystic, Texas who get into all sorts of shenanigans. In Stories of Serendipity, she explores real people living real lives in small town Texas in a contemporary romance setting. In The Four Winds, she chronicles God’s four closest archangels, Uriel, Gabriel, Raphael, and Michael, falling in love and becoming human.

Anne Conley Knows how to heat things up on the pages of every story she writes and Truth or Dare is no exception. Jude and Annette 1st meeting is a dare to end all dares... they just know it yet!! Truth or Dare is full of hot Firemen and some angst to keep you glued to the pages throughout the entire book!!
The first book I ever read by Anne Conley was Redemption for Misty. I absolutely fell in love. Then I had to read the Pierce Securities guys. Well I was hooked. I started reading her back log of books. I am not sure what is more addicted than hooked, but I think you get my drift. When she started talking about these Firefighters I was like…come on stick to what you have, why do you need a new series, I want more Pierce. Well, I was wrong. Anne has knocked this one out of the park. When we were first introduced I was like, “Hubba Hubba”. Then the first book arrived, and I was like “Come to mama”. And the addiction continues. This series is based on childhood games gone wrong. Or oh so right. Depending on your point of view. I say, go get them and make your own conclusion. I seriously doubt you will regret it.
I wasn’t sure what to expect when I dived into this book. It’s a new series, but it’s Anne Conley so it has to be great. Not only that but I’ve been in a serious book funk, my joy of reading stolen, but this book relit that fire within me. What an awesome setting, storyline and characters. It’s hard to write a review to do this justice without giving away spoilers but I cannot wait to see what else happens in the town. This book left behind a spark that there is so much more to come in this town!
This is the beginning of a new series (Playing With Fire series) for Anne Conley.
It’s about firefighters and their lives. This beginning book of the series is about Jude and Annette. Jude and his buddies are out letting off some steam and they start playing the game Truth or Dare. Jude picks dare...and from there everything changes for him and Annette. He is dared to kiss one of the women in the bar. After a bit, he chooses Annette. She allows the kiss, and the sparks that ignite and flare then blaze to life are just amazing to see. Annette is new to town to be “found” as an artist. She is quickly picked up by the town sleeve ball. She sees through him easily enough. She doesn’t want a man, but for her career as an artist to take off, then she’ll worry about men. Once Jude kisses her though, embers have ignited and are slowing stoking into a blaze during a blizzard when they are trapped together. Danger finds them later in the story. Can Jude first convince Annette to take a chance on him? Can Jude save Annette from the danger lurking?
I can not wait for the rest of this series. This book is completely HOT!!
Anne Conley did an amazing job with this story!! You HAVE to 1 click it!!! Whew! **fans myself while typing**
A great read and I can’t wait to read more from this series. Jude is a firefighter and loves his job. After a game of truth or dare he sees a new woman sitting at the bar and his dare is to kiss a woman. Knowing that his ex is watching he does just that. They have a connection and she has has his phone number but doesn’t call. Annette wants to be a successful artist and moves away from her parents. After scoring what was supposed to be a good show at a gallery she realises that Drake only wants one thing........to sleep with her.
As Jude’s ex wants Jude for herself and goes after Annette, Jude gets injured in the line of duty and Annette desperately wants to tell Jude how she feels. Will they have the HEA? Can their ex’s let them have their happiness? A great read and I can’t wait for more.
Do you want the Truth? Or would you take on a Dare?
A beautifully written, angsty story that leaves you turning page after page... It’s small town living, where everybody knows your quirks and your story intimately! Well except for the new resident in town Annette.
It’s four friends, all fire fighters, that you will share their stories over the coming months. Kickstarting the Playing With Fire series is Jude and Annette in TRUTH OR DARE… It’s a wonderful weekend read filled with angst, learning to stand up for yourself even though its not intended, it can cause others pain. Light hearted tender moments, scorching hot scenes that then blend with the insecurities and vulnerabilities of starting over.
One of the things I loved about the character development - that we are all too human. We make mistakes, we say the wrong words and even when we look to start over… being vulnerable to another is hard… no matter how scorching and sizzling the attraction is. Loved how the game Truth or Dare is used through out the book. It will be interesting to see the development of the other book titles and how those titled games are incorporated. I’m so invested … I can’t wait for more words to come…
Get caught up in the spectacle and thrill that love brings. It’s fun, it’s dramatic, it’s heat and sexiness in the words inside this book. It’s TRUTH OR DARE. Read what it takes to bring two beautiful, determined, stubborn and vulnerable souls together. Join Jude and Annette, share their journey.
If that’s not enough… Anne gives you a glimpse of some nerfarious activity at play… you know you’ve got to keep reading this series to see how it all play out... :)
NOTE: Oh my word! I have to say, I dabble and play with paints and mixed media supplies for fun! The descriptions and pure sensuality - totally breath taking. Be still my artist’s heart! Definitely not spoiling a new reader’s experience... except to say... it’s decadent, rich, vibrant, completely gratifying! I so wish I had a visual of Annette’s paintings… I love ART in all of its subjective process. Annette’s capture of art to the canvas and its results... intriguing! Wouldn’t that make this an even more spectacular book if it had that artsy visual.
Annette has spent her whole life pleasing others and doesn’t know what hits her when she gets caught up in a game of truth or dare. Trying to stay focus on her career goals she has no time for romance when sexy firefighter Jude comes falling into her life. It’s up to Jude to convince her to give them a chance. Liked both Jude and Annette and the buildup in the relationship between them. Enjoyable read with some steamy scenes.
Not that much action for a firefighter book but I’m looking forward to reading the rest of the series and finding out what happens to the rest of Jude’s teammates.
Truth or Dare by Anne Conley is the first book in a new series about hot firemen and their loves.
This book is about Jude and Annette. Jude friends dare him to kiss a woman in a bar and that’s where it all begins. The chemistry between them is off the charts but, Annette is here for her career...not to mess it up with a relationship.
Jude makes it hard for her to stay away from.
This looks like it’s going to be another great series. Cannot wait for more!
A game of Truth or Dare has never been so hot. Jude was dared to kiss someone in a bar, and he chose Annette and talked her into going along with the dare. Annette is trying to get on her own two feet as an artist and doesn't have time for a relationship. Jude is tired of his playboy lifestyle and is looking for someone to settle down with. Can these two get out of their own ways to have their Happily Ever After?
I'm always sceptical when starting a new series when I have been so invested in the old characters and their lives, but Anne Conley hit it out of the park again with this one. I cant wait to see what she comes up with next.
Jude and Annette meet when Jude is dared to kiss a woman in the bar. They meet up later at his cabin where she goes to paint. Jude is really interested in starting more than a fling but she is gun shy. Can he convince her to give them a chance?
So we got a taste of this small mountain town I’ve grown to love in Conley’s Fortune’s Kiss—which I highly recommend, by the way. That book completely left me hoping Conley would provide more of this town and she did not disappoint.
This installment efficiently introduces us to the town and some of its key players: some of the firemen, a couple of art gallery owners, the ski lodges, the town’s personality, etc. All of it serves to hook me in and I just want more. She also lays the groundwork for some of the star characters and their drama in the other books the series so I’m forever wanting more and cannot get this series fast enough.
As the title implies there are games involved—but don’t assume they’re juvenile. They’re heated and will lead to loads of drama, making for an exciting ride. The opening scene sets the tone as we get various types of drama and some carnal attraction right off the bat, all centered around this book’s stars: Jude and Annette. Jude is a great character that you’ll likely find yourself rooting for. There’s another you’ll love to hate and others you’ll want to see more of. This has all the makings of a great way to spend a couple hours. Get lost in this small town and you won’t be disappointed.
Who knew playing with fire could be so fun? A childish game of truth or dare can either lead to disaster or to the love of each other’s life when Jude ask a complete stranger to kiss him to get someone off his back. Just lucky for him Annette goes along with the game. As a firefighter Jude is use to playing with fire and pushing himself to his limit, but Annette has been living and a world where so much of her life has been decided for her until she determined enough was enough and she was going to live life her way. Now can Jude persuade her to realize that you can have heat without burning down the house? That they can have a fire and get burn wildly, brightly and still be in control?
Jude is a firefight. He is tired of the single life and 1 night stands. One night while hanging out there is a game of truth or dare. Jude picked dare how bad could it be. Well, let's say it leaves Jude kissing a total stranger. One kiss that changes everything for him and for the beautiful Annette. Of course, nothing is ever easy and leave it to Jude to find the one woman who is not looking for any long-term romantic relationship. Annette is new to town she is trying to make it as an artist. She left everything behind to make it in her industry. The last thing she needs is a man complicating things for her. She needs to be 100% committed to work. How can she ignore that kiss? It was explosive she has never felt so much before from just a single kiss. Can they figure out what is more important to them? will it be work or a relationship? Maybe they can figure out a way to have it all.
Loved the story of Jude and Annette. I liked the fast pace of their 'relationship' A dare by his friend sends Jude looking for a girl to kiss. The Sparks that fly make him want more. Too bad Annette is only their to fulfill her dream of being a recognized artist. She doesn't want them derailed by a man. That kiss is the start of a burning desire for both of them. Now they just have to figure out what is most important to them, or can they have both. I was given this arc for an honest review.
Loved this book. It was both sexy and sweet. I really liked Jude and loved that he knew he wanted a more meaningful relationship with Annette. Definitely recommend this book.
Awesome book in an awesome new series. I’m a new fan to Anne Conley after binge reading the Pierce Security series. So looking forward to the next book in this series. Total *sigh* worthy how Jude instantly finds peace when Annette is near. How they got to know each other with the truth or dare questions was great and different in this book.
Main Characters: Jude & Annette I voluntarily and honestly reviewed this book without bias or persuasion from the author. 4 out of 5 stars Jude is a firefighter who recently broke up with his girlfriend (Everly). At a bar one night with his fellow firefighters he plays the game truth or dare and his dare is to kiss anyone in the bar. Now who do you think he kisses and what happens from there? I would have liked to have seen some firefighting action but the romance part was good. This is set in a small town and Annette is new to it and an artist trying to get recognized. Love the way the art is incorporated into the story and wow it is different from might you might have envisioned. I am looking forward to reading more in this series. Great job, Anne Conley!
A children's game, when played by adults, can have some unintended consequences. In Jude's case, it brings him Annette. Annette is working hard toward her future as an artist and she certainly wasn't expecting Jude and all the heat they make together. To make something work between them they'll each have to learn how to let go of the past and see the possibility of a future together that gives them their dream as well as someone to share it with.
Annette's desire to have a future based on her art is admirable. I love that she stands up to Drake. What I'm less a fan of is her quickness to ignore all the evidence of what a good man Jude is, to distrust that he understands her motivations, to downplay her own rapidly growing feelings, and to berate herself for taking a chance on a great man who has quickly become her muse. The end kind of makes up for her self-imposed blindness but it doesn't make me any less irritated when she does what she does. That being said, the way she sticks to her guns regarding her professional goals speaks to her inner strength and belief in her talent. She knows what she wants and will work hard to achieve the success she knows her art deserves. I'd like to have seen her grow throughout the story, not just accept that she can truly have the man and the career, but her individual growth as she makes friends and begins to believe in herself and not just her art.
Jude is a simple man with a lot to offer. It's unfortunate that his ex seems to be so nasty. We see more of her later that gives us hope that that's not all she is, but throughout most of the story I'm left to wonder if Jude is the kind of man who's blind enough to be led around by his little head. I know there's more to him and we see that he was frustrated with what his previous relationship turned into but for all his goodness, strength, and caring, he seems to lose sight of what his heart and soul really need in favor of his hormones. He's a passionate man and there's certainly no avoiding that, nor would I wish he were different in that respect. I just think that there isn't enough focus on the relationship's depth. And his response to Annette's phone call near the end? Pretty confusing since we've already been privy to his heart and intentions toward her.
I do think that phone call led Annette to really take stock of her feelings and intentions so it was an effective tool here, but I think it kind of felt a bit forced. As if the direction of the call didn't make sense as a connection between Jude's and Annette's conclusions. But the conversation at the Lodge was just about perfect. Getting them on the same page and talking about what brought them to that point was worth the wait. We get to see that they're really and truly willing to work on things together from there on out, that they have more than just a fighting chance at a happily-ever-after, they're well on their way to all the things.
Overall I felt that this book needed a few more chapters. We're missing some individual growth on Annette's side, connections and interactions between the MC's and the side cast to make them feel full and well-rounded as individuals, and some relationship foundations were summarized and briefly touched on but should probably have been expounded a bit more. So about 100 more pages would have made this a fantastic story instead of just a really good one. However, as we get to know some of the characters of this town I'm drawn in and eager to learn about each of them. The cast is solid and multi-faceted. While most of them play great supporting roles to Jude and Annette here, they're intriguing as individuals which only makes me want to read their stories. This is a good start to the series and I'm excited for more!
Anne has written a superb story here starring a artist with a fireman Annette a Landscape Artist and Jude the Fireman they meet after a truth or dare kiss in a bar. However the story really is about Annette the artist and getting a show at the gallery. Annette using Jude as her vocal point for her landscape paintings so hot when she painted lines on his body you could feel the heat generated between them. Then at the showing at the gallery everyone of her paintings had pieces of his body in them eyes looking around trees, hand prints in the snow flamming hair body parts in the mountains. To me it was nice to see the heroine as the major attraction. Well done Anne another great story. I received this ARC to give an honest review and I would recommend this story to everyone.
Truth or Dare is the first book in the 'Playing with Fire" series. This is Jude and Annette's story. I loved the "truth or dare" part of the story. It started out as a game, but it ended up being a way for Jude and Annette to get to know each other. They had great chemistry. Even though the "I love yous" came fast, I felt like they did get to know each other fairly well. I really liked the characters, especially Annette. I admired her determination to follow her dream and try to make it as an artist. The description of her painting style made me really wish I could see one of them in real life. I look forward to reading the next one in the series.
This was a unique book. A bit rom suspense but more heavy on the romance and the female character’s art career than the arson going on or the male character’s fire fighting career.
They were absolutely fire together though. The chemistry between them leaped off the page and made you intrigued for more of them.
I liked how they took a short break from being together but never truly lost each other. They never fought on the pages of the story and their love flowed.
While this was a good story it was a little choppy and felt like a debut novel. It just didn’t feel clean even though there was technically nothing wrong with it
You know when you just love that contrast on sweet and spicy? Well, that's what this book was to me. Annette has moved in order to further her artists career , she is selling he paintings in the town square and is spotted by the local slime ball art dealer. He offers her a show, but with strings attached.
Jude is a local firefighter and is caught up in a game of truth or dare with his friends. They dare him to kiss anyone in the bar, and he chooses Annette. Sparks ignite , and they are both left breathless. He gives her his number, and she never calls.
They do run into each other again, and things progress... There is a lot of steamyness in this book as well as a great story of how a man should repect a womans desire to be her own person. I look forward to book 2 in this series.
Anne Conley is heating things up like a wild fire in her new Playing With Fire series and Truth or Dare is SMOLDERING with very delicious heat!
Oh my hotness, this story was OUTRAGEOUSLY sexy! Its daring with wonderful characters some angst and it all in a small town I wouldn't mind being a part of. The story heats you up and gives you feels that lasts for hours after you finish. I think Miss Conley brought her major A-Game with this series and I am very excited to read the next ones in this new appealing series!
Truth Or Dare gets a HEAT FILLED FOUR AND A HALF SPARKING STARS!
Enjoyed this read very much. The truth or dare concept as a basis for the story line is extremely clever. The emotional roller coaster for Annette is something we can all relate to starting our foray into adult responsibility. A stressful occupation and finding your one made Jude human and also relatable. Putting this together with action and an undesirable male made the read intriguing. Can't wait for the next instalment
This book is so amazing that by the time you finish it, you will be totally on fire. Smoking hot men and the beautiful women that drive them crazy and set them on fire. This is truly an amazing book and I can't wait to read the next!
I was a little skeptical about this series and the child game angle. However, I love all her other books, so I gave it a try. I am so glad I did! Annette and Jude were a great couple! It was a great quick read, and I enjoyed the other characters in the book. It made me want to read more about them. I did find Annette and her insistence to not want a relationship to be a little annoying. There just wasn't a real reason, and I just wanted to shake her!! But I did enjoy the book, and I liked Jude and his determination.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC of this book.
