100 Knits, Interweave's Ultimate Pattern Collection is a beautiful treasury of knitting patterns for all skill levels. Knitters will find the following patterns: 10 hats, 6 socks, 2 scarves, 12 cowls, 12 shawls, 21 cardigans, 26 pullovers/sweaters and 11 tanks and tees. Each pattern is accompanied by colour photos and charts, where necessary. You will also find a descriptive list of the designers whose work is on display in this book. All in all, this is a great book to add to any knitter's library. There is something for everyone here, and the most difficult decision will be where to start. Thank you to F+W Media and NetGalley for an e-ARC in exchange for an honest review.
An inspiring collection of 100 of Interweave Knits' best patterns. These are taken from the magazine, as well as Knitscene, special holiday issues, and a few books, and as expected from Interweave patterns they're gorgeously photographed and the instructions are detailed yet succinct.
The majority of patterns (I think about half) are for sweaters, cardigans, tanks, and tees, with the accessories including shawls, scarves, hats, and a few socks. I was disappointed that there were no mitten or glove patterns, nor any patterns for home accessories (like blankets, pillows, etc) or bags. There is also only one sweater specifically sized for men, and only one pattern for kids (a sock), so if you're looking for a "family" knits book this might not be it.
There's a wide range of skill levels and techniques used in the patterns, mainly cables and lace, but there's some Fair Isle and brioche patterns as well. I wouldn't necessarily say this is a "beginner" book--there were only a couple patterns I would have considered "advanced beginner"--as most patterns involved not only interesting stitches, but also unique construction elements. That isn't to say I wouldn't recommend it to a newer knitter though! There are enough patterns in here that are a good compromise between easy and challenging that can help newer knitters build skills.
As I was adding some of these patterns to my Ravelry queue, I noticed that most of them are from more recent issues of Interweave publications, from about 2013 up through 2017. There are, of course, older patterns, but of the about 10 I found queue-worthy, 9 of them were in that year range. If you subscribe to Interweave magazine, and keep your back issues, then you might find a lot of redundant patterns here.
I am not much of a popular knitter--I don't knit fad patterns--so I honestly didn't find this book worthwhile of buying. However, it's definitely one I would check out from the library for inspiration and to follow the few patterns I did add to my queue.
If do enjoy knitting popular patterns, then I would definitely recommend purchasing it and expanding your wardrobe with these amazing patterns!

100 Knits Interweave's Ultimate Pattern Collection by Interweave Editors
Eye candy for knitters – just amazing with inspiration on every page!
Having knit since I was eight I have tried most stitches and have made many items over the past six decades. The socks I saw make me want to take up knitting needles again. The lace patterns varied from gossamer to slightly more dense. The cable patters were incredible and how they wove in a variety of ways was a delight to see. I have to say that this is not a book for beginners and anyone sitting down to make one of the patterns in this book should bring patience and have time on their hands to work because some of these use small needles, fine yarns and are very intricate so focus and counting will be required. Lovely yarns were used and the photography was a delight. I would love to own this book and add it to my knitting library.
Thank you to NetGalley and F+W Media for the ARC – This is my honest review.
Interweave knitting has pulled together a bonanza of their popular knitting patterns into a treasure trove of a book. With patterns from many of my favorite, and trusted designers, there is something here for almost everyone.
Particularly of note are the accessories sections, with scarves and hats in every weight of yarn, a phenomenal stash-busting value.
There are lots and lots of pullovers and cardigans, featuring color work, lace and cables, in mostly classical styles. (A small negative is that there are surprisingly few options in men’s sizes.) Several of the t’s were already in my Ravelry favorites, and a winter’s worth of sweater options sent me diving into my stash hoping I had sweater quantities of an appropriate fiber!
It's a good collection, but because it's a large mix of pattern writers, the sizing is very up and down. I wish they would've worked on the sizing for the pieces as a whole before releasing them in a collection like this. They could've done so much with this!
Interweave, the company that publishes Interweave Knits and Knitscene has released 100 Knits: Interweave's Ultimate Pattern Collection. The patterns are arranged in five sections: 1) Hats and Socks, 2) Scarves, Cowls, Shawls and Wraps, 3) Cardigans, 4) Pullovers, and 5) Tanks and Tees. There are projects that feature colourwork, intarsia, lace, stockinette, garter stitch or cables. There's even a tutorial on circular grafting.
A lot of patterns that appear have been previously published in Interweave publications. When I glanced through 100 Knits and checked the pattern listings for this book on Ravelry, there are patterns in the collection that have dated as far back as 2006, but with the bulk of the patterns dating between 2014 to 2017. Most of them have appeared in past issues of Interweave Knits and Knitscene magazines. There are a smattering of patterns that have appeared in Interweave books and/or e-books, which include the following:
Wanderlust: 46 Modern Knits for Bohemian Style
New Directions in Sock Knitting
Rugged Knits
Family-Friendly Knits
New Lace Knitting: Designs for Wide Open Spaces
New American Knits: Classic Sportswear Patterns
New England Knits: Timeless Knitwear With a Modern Twist
Garter Stitch Revival
Free Spirit Knits
Urban Knit Collection: 18 City Inspired Knitting Patterns for the Modern Wardrobe.
The pattern collection includes Interweave's top five patterns: Jared Flood's Koolhaus Hat, Carina Spencer's Lucy Hat, Evelyn A. Clark's Swallowtail Shawl, Heather Lodinsky's Central Park Hoodie, and Heather Zoppetti's Dahlia Cardigan. Other designers include Rosemary (Romi) Hill, Susanna IC, Isabell Kraemer, Holli Yeoh, Mari Chiba, Kristen TenDyke, Cecily Glowik MacDonald, Shirley Paden, Tanis Gray, Norah Gaughan, and Amy Christoffers, who has at least five of her patterns in 100 Knits.
I really like this pattern collection. It's a hefty price to pay at $45 US, but, it has many lovely patterns in it. I could see myself wanting to knit many of the designs in this book. Just looking at the designs that have previously appeared in New Directions in Sock Knitting and Garter Stitch Revival have piqued my interested in searching for those two books. However, I already own a number of these patterns that appear in 100 Knits through my knitting magazine collection. If I didn't already own these, I would probably be seriously drooling over this book. For the knitter who doesn't already have issues of Interweave Knits and Knitscene magazines from the past four years, 100 Knits may offer a fantastic collection of designs to knit from.
Disclaimer: I received an e-copy of 100 Knits: Interweave's Ultimate Pattern Collection by the Editors at Interweave from NetGalley in exchange for a review. All opinions stated in this review are mine.
100 Knits is a new collection of previously released knitting patterns from Interweave Knits magazine, Knitscene, special holiday releases and a few miscellaneous other sources. Released 2nd Oct 2018 by Interweave in collaboration with F+W, it's an encyclopedic 512 (!) pages and available in hardcover format.
I'm a magpie knitter. I spend a ridiculous amount of time on Ravelry with a list as long as my arm of 'must knits'. I also often find myself flipping through knitting magazines and thinking 'I must remember this pattern and do it later'. I generally forget where I've seen the project and spend a large amount of time with the nagging feeling of not being able to remember where I saw it.
When I was flipping through this colossal collection, there were several projects which immediately dinged that 'THAT' project bell up in my head. It's so cool to have them at my fingertips and know where they are instead of having to look through years of magazines and books to (maybe) find the particular one I'm looking for. This book literally made me really happy.
The projects are up to Interweave's artisanal standards. They're beautifully curated and most types of knitwear is represented. There is a dearth of plus sized, men's and children's projects, mittens, and there aren't any afghans/quilts/decor projects. There are a number of unisex projects (mostly hats and cowls) which are suitable for and pictured with both male and female models.
There are so many of these I want to do. In fact, the projects I didn't want to do were by far in the minority.
The designers are credited on each of their projects. Many of these projects have coordinating projects on Ravelry, just search by designer (or project). Many of these have literally thousands of finishes in the Ravelry galleries. Truly impressive.
Classic, funky, gorgeous, stylish, beatnik, hipster, whatever you're looking for, there's something in this collection which will satisfy.
Five stars.
Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes.
Wow, such talented designers! For me, majority of this book is for advanced knitters especially when you get in the clothing aspect part of the book. There are so many beautiful photos that capture each knitted project elegantly. Yes each project does include a photo and a few of up close detailed views and of technical stitches of the pattern. This is the first book I have seen that each project is very fashionable (with yarns/patterns used) enough to where I would make and wear each one. I haven't come across anything like that in a knitting book I've seen. I believe this will be well worth the $ spent.
Personal Note: I had taken a knitwear design class when I was in college (10 years ago) and I almost wished I kept up my knitting to stay familiar with the techniques. As of right now, I'm back into the knitting and crocheting mood so I'm basically at back to basics. Tutorial videos here I come lol!
If you’ve been a knitter for any length of time, you are are aware of Interweave. It is pretty much the magazine for knitters.
In this huge pattern book, they’ve brought together a brilliant amount of patterns for knitting accessories, cardigans and pullovers. Included are Evelyn Clark’s Swallowtail Shawl pattern and Heather Lodinsky’s Central Park Hoodie, which, if you’re on Ravely, you know, if you’ve not already knitted these patterns.
While all of the included patterns are very wearable and beautiful, there are not many patterns that a newish knitter could easily make. So this is definitely a pattern book for the intermediate to advanced knitters out there.
Not all of the patterns have written directions, so if you aren’t a fan of charts, this may not be for you.
All in all, it’s a beautiful book with a lot of exquisite knits just longing to be on your needles.

This is an extremely comprehensive set of patterns put together by Interweave, which includes patterns for cowls, pullovers, tanks, t-shirts, and hats. As a beginner knitter, the patterns seemed advanced (lacework, colour work, use of charts) and would appeal to those looking for more advanced options. Although I am a beginner, I did find several options that I would consider attempting even now.
Overall, this seems to be a beautiful book with many patterns, but I wasn't drawn to a lot of the patterns, as they just happened not to fit my style, so I would give it a 3.5 (rounded up). They seemed quite complex and a bit more traditional than I would wear. For those who prefer more traditional options, I think that there is a lot here.
Thanks to NetGalley and Interweave for the opportunity to review an advance copy in exchange for an honest review.
The first thing, I noticed about this collection are that there are no gloves/mitts/items for hands. The book doesn't claim to contain any knitted items for hands, but a collection of 100 knits without these sort of projects seems a little odd to me. There are some hats, socks, and cowls/scarves/shawls, but if you're primarily a hat or sock or shawl knitter, you might want to look for another collection. What is great about this pattern collection is the sweaters. There are tons of gorgeous sweaters, both cardigans and pullovers, knit in various ways (in the round, seamed, modular). Even though some of these patterns are older, none of them seem particularly dated. There doesn't seem to be a lot of overlap with Interweave pattern collections I've perused in the past. Another consideration: only one of these sweaters is masculine.
I love the majority of the patterns presented in the book, so I will be making loads of them and can't wait to get started. I think although the book is a bit pricey ($45), when you take into consideration how many patterns it inludes, then the price seems quite fair. It's also a beautifully designed book with gorgeous photographs and clear explanations. There are only a couple of patterns for men and children though, so it's mainly women's knits. I think that should have been made obvious, or that men and children's knits should have been added too.
Disclaimer - I received a free digital copy of this book couresty of F+W Media and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
This is a gorgeous book of hand knits and their patterns. The photography is plentiful, several different shots of the project so you can see what's going on, the charts are clear, and the design of the book is great. Typography is a bit small and thin for my older eyes, though. I started subscribing to Interweave Knits with Issue One, and many pieces are familiar. I did notice that in the sweater section, some sweaters seemed redundant, looking very similar to a sweater a couple pages ago. I was also disappointed to realize there was only one man's sweater in this entire book! "Ultimate" pattern collection? I might disagree, but there are many beautiful ones in here.
This is a beautiful book and it has a fantastic presentation, however after trying to knit one of the patterns, I have discovered that there are errors within the instructions. In particular the Roosevelt cardigan cable graph is doubled up when it should be a mirror of each other. If you are an experienced knitter, you can figure this out. However, if you are a beginner and you’ve just purchased this book, you would probably be disappointed. It’s such a shame that it hasn’t been checked prior to publication as this is quite an expensive book and it should be perfect.
Pretty exciting collection of gorgeous patterns for scarves, wraps, socks, and just about every type of sweater you can think to knit! The patterns are by dozens of designers, so you get a nice, wide variety of styles.
This is an amazing resource, and will be a valuable addition to our public library, and to home libraries for knitters. Great gift idea, because it is beautifully done as well as being incredibly useful.
Interweave is well-known in the knitting community, and this volume of patterns shows why. It is a painstakingly curated collection, ranging from more simple hat patterns to intricate shawls and sweaters. Every garment is beautifully photographed from multiple angles to display every design element present. The one downside is that there is not much in the way of men's or children's patterns, which may disappoint many knitters.
According to Ravelry, I own thousands of knitting patterns. But I definitely needed this book of Interweave's top 100. This book is spectacular. As always with Interweave, the patterns are precisely written and include detailed schematics and yarn information. Multiple artful photographs for each pattern show every angle and the standout details on each garment. I want to knit ALL THE PATTERNS right now.
Very nicely put together listing of the more popular patterns published in Interweave Knits. If you own most of the magazines for the past decade, then you already have these patterns. If you don't, then it's an excellent way to get them in one collection!
I love that pages aren't wasted with basic knitting instruction.
Probably the most creative and stunningly beautiful collection of knitted patterns assembled in one monster volume! While even explicit chart and written instructions will be beyond the capabilities of most knitters except the most masterful, this is still a fascinating book to explore how combinations of knits, purls, and other stitches can result in such magical results.
Loved all the hats but honestly the sweaters were mostly a dud for me. There are maybe three or four sweater patterns out of easily two dozen chosen for this book that would be worth the time and money to make. The rest are boooooring.
This is an amazing book! I loved a majority of the patterns short the sock patterns (although that's because I'm a toe up sock knitter and nearly all of them were cuff down patterns).

Such a lovely collection of patterns! The timeless beauty and classic style Interweave always delivers wrapped up in one comprehensive collection. Hats, socks, shawls, cardigans- oh my!
This is a compilation so a lot of these patterns were already familiar to me, but wow is this beautiful. Interweave has always been my favorite knitting publication. Absolutely lovely.
This new collection of patterns includes a whopping 500 pages of contemporary garment patterns for hats, shawls, cowls, sweaters, and socks. I was delighted to find a whole section in the back for what the editors call "t-shirts" - lighter weight and either short-sleeved or sleeveless sweaters perfect for those of us in warmer climates.
Great book, great patterns. Some truly inspirational patterns, I particularly love the Lucy hat. I love that the book contains patterns from a range of different creators, it’s a must for anyone that loves to knit.
Love the comfy cozy sweaters in this book!! Well detailed patterns. Amazing pictures so you get a feel for what your project should look like. The perfect book for a beginner knitter looking to expand your capabilities and push they to the next level. My favorite, and first project will be the Central Park Hoodie!!!
