So, so fucking good! Sometimes a found family can be your lover and a bunch of uncles at the junk yard and thats okay. The way this mangaka does intimacy through the little things. It's domestic and wholesome and so, so sweet i just end up tearing every. single. time. Just everything this mangaka does *chef's kiss*
Way to get me in right in the feels. This book has a simple premise, but it definitely packs a punch.
Our story focuses on the two main characters: Harehito and Oujirou. They own and operate a trash collecting business, where Harehito works on repairs for the junk that they are asked to pick up and Oujirou operates the online portion. They have an easygoing relationship that definitely goes beyond the traditional form of friendship in terms of their attachment and roles in each other's lives; however, they are not in a romantic relationship. Their connection is one that almost defies definition, which is a gray area that I very much appreciated.
As Harehito and Oujirou go about their daily lives, we are treated to the backstory of how they met, as well as important aspects of their connection. Harehito takes great pride and interest in fixing things, but Oujirou, in a SUPER adorable fashion, believes that, despite Harehito's talent, this heart will never be fixed. The story itself is fairly slow paced, but I felt that this really was the right choice for the characters. The readers' connection to the story and the characters was gradual, much like the development of Harehito and Oujirou's relationship, and I found that very poetic.
I also loved the way that it talked about very real problems. Oujirou doesn't have a great past, and we see him come to terms with that and begin to move forward. Harehito is incredibly kind and patient, and it is his consistent presence that ultimately helps Oujirou to recognize his true worth. There are definitely some dark aspects of the story, as well as a scene or two that felt a little far-fetched, but I loved this beautiful story about love and healing.
DNF. this story had so much promise, i was really pulled in with the whole trash collector schtick—until i got to chapter two and realized that harehito was essentially grooming teenage oujirou.
he lived with him and witnessed him grow up... when it got to the creepy cuddling part i couldn’t even bring myself to continue. yuck.
My favorite manga by Ueda Aki sensei, the plot is quite unique and the story is beautifully heartwarming.
I’m usually not a fan of this artist’s drawing style because the characters have very long limbs, angular face, drooping eyes, and large mouth.
The uke runs a recycling shop, fixing up unwanted items and finding them new lives with new owners. One day he picked up the seme in the junk yard, as a teenager abandoned by his own father. The uke took him in and treated him like family, the seme helps uke with administrative side of the business.
After living together for a few years, the two finally confessed their feelings to each other and became lovers. They are the most important person remaining in each other’s life.
Although I liked the underlying message about repairing broken hearts and passing on the kindness, I wished there’s more focus on the emotional development of the main characters. This manga contains so many pages of sex, especially their first time, very typical for this artist…
