The Time Machine was written by H.G. Wells. He and Jules Verne are considered to have invented the science fiction genre. H. G. Wells, though, uses his novels to relay his ideas about evolution, Marxism, and socialism. In the novel the protagonist is only known by the name “the Time Traveller” who has built a time machine and travels 800,000 years into the future. What he sees and learns is very unusual, to say the least.
