In a future war, the battle of Armageddon is about to commence. The Anti-Pope, allying with the forces of evil, stands at the threshold of victory. Then, the man once known as Daniel Llanso rises out of the death destruction to become the new Hellspawn of this era. In a blind rage of memories from his own abused childhood, he saves two refugees, Madrid and Matthew from certain death at the hands of the Desiccator, by killing him. Even though Hellspawn just saved their lives, they feel only terror toward him while he seems very familiar to them.

(Edited) Man am I ever in the minority on this one! And maybe this isn't for me but GOD what a mess. First of all, I will just get this out of the way. The narration is tiring to read. DEATH DEATH DEATH DEATH DEATH DEATH!! We get it, "daemons" are taking over the world and the human race is basically dead, and the tortured souls of lost people breath pain and agony. We don't need to know that piles of corpses are strewn at every step or God dies a bloody, hellish death 70 times!!! If I read the rest of the series I'd be in an asylum. This is basically if Marilyn Manson wrote a comic book about Spawn. There is simply too much world building as well. It would be better to focus on layered characters that we could possibly root for, instead of worshipping death for 22 pages. Oh and by the way Spawn shows up in the last 4-5 pages. Great. The art is frickin insane. Overly detailed cluttered crud. Some of the penciling is okay but the dark and ugly colour palate gets so exhausting after a while. But here's the thing. I have read some Spawn before and I liked it. This was just the epitome of NOT GOOD. It's a never-ending list of morbid death metaphors and I couldn't stand it! I wasn't infuriated while reading it like I was with The Divided States of Hysteria but I was close. As the book would say, this was like listening to nails scraping a blood-soaked femur!
