Psychic Investigator AJ Rakowski can’t talk to the dead, but she can ‘dial’ into a dead person’s vibes. Why this qualifies her as a consultant for the Chicago Police Department is a mystery to skeptical Homicide Lt. Jack Daniels, who has real cases to solve. But when Rakowski is brought on to help stop a serial kidnapper from abducting his next victim, Jack is forced to work with AJ. A girl’s life is on the line, and maybe if the two learn to accept their differences and join forces, they just might be able to stop the…ABDUCTIONS
This is a 9,000 word short story written by Garth Perry and J. A. Konrath.
Joe Konrath has written over twenty novels in the Lt. Jacqueline "Jack" Daniels thriller series. They do not have to be read chronologically to be enjoyed, but the order is: Whiskey Sour, Bloody Mary, Rusty Nail, Dirty Martini, Shot of Tequila, Fuzzy Navel, Cherry Bomb, Dead On My Feet, Serial Killers Uncut (with Blake Crouch), Shaken, Stirred (with Blake Crouch), Dying Breath, Everybody Dies, Rum Runner, Last Call, White Russian, Shot Girl, Chaser, Old Fashioned, Bite Force, and Witch Brew. More coming soon.
Wow, that's a lot of Jack.
If you like your thrillers on the dark side, check out the Konrath Dark Thriller Collective, which includes the books The List, Origin, Afraid, Trapped, Endurance, Haunted House, Webcam, Disturb, What Happened To Lori, The Nine, Second Coming, and Close Your Eyes.
Joe also wrote the Stop A Murder mystery puzzle series, where you become the sleuth and solve brain teasers to try and catch a killer.
He also wrote the sci-fi trilogy, Timecaster, Timecaster Supersymmetry, and Timecaster Steampunk. Even if you don't think you like sci-fi, give them a try. They feature Joe's well-known characters from his other series, and are insane.
With Ann Voss Peterson he wrote the Codename: Chandler thrillers, including Flee, Spree, Three, Hit, Exposed, Naughty, Fix (with F. Paul Wilson), Rescue, and Free.
And, finally, he writes erotica under the pen name Melinda DuChamp, also with Ann Voss Peterson. Those books are probably too spicy for you, so only the brave and bold should seek them out.
Joe writes a lot. You should probably read everything.
I love finding new authors through authors I already enjoy, and this is no exception. Garth Perry and J.A. Konrath have put together an awesome short story here, bringing cynical LT. Jack Daniels in on a case with psychic investigator, AJ Rakowski. The story is fast paced and funny, even though it deals with some pretty dark subject matter (kidnapping is just the beginning of the crazy in this one). I would absolutely recommend this for anyone who enjoys mystery/thrillers.
This could have been longer but was a fun read. Lt Daniels is forced to hire AJ as a consultant and starts as a skeptic. AJ comes up with information that solves a kidnapping and returns the girl to her home. She then works on finding the victim she first started out looking for. A surprise ending and the start of a potentially great new series.
This isn't BAD, it's just far too short for it to be considered an actual read. I've picked up the second book, however, I felt like the first book was more a few chapters of character exploration. Too much Herb chatter, perhaps.
Can never miss with a Jack Daniel's book!! On a case of a missing girl, Jack doubtfully works with a woman, who claims to see things in regard to the missing girl. Will they solve the situation or will Jack have to find her, the old fashion way of investigating?
Jack works with a psychic named AJ Ramkowski. They find an abducted girl and another one that was killed by her brother based on her visions. Pretty decent read.

You won't ever forget this book. Another magical book, written by author J. A. Konrath, who always has another level to peel, just when you think it's over. With Konrath, it's never over. And when the book is finished, you are not.

I co-wrote this with Joe Konrath, so of course won't rate or review it. But I did want to give an update on both Abductions and Beat Down - they are available in KindleUnlimited and so if you are enrolled in KU, you can read them for free! Give them a try and let me know what you think. Thanks!
I always enjoy these Jack Daniels short stories. They are a which, funny read every time and this one did not disappoint. With the addition of a psychic detective to the mix, I look forward to more in this series.
I co-wrote this short story with J.A. Konrath. It was in Kindle Worlds but has now been republished with Joe's permission and is available on Amazon and eventually other platform as well. It is a stand alone but also part 1 of a 3 story arc.
