When Yasmin vacations to the islands for a paranormal mixer, she hopes for daiquiris and muscled surfer dudes. What she doesn't anticipate is for her oldest childhood friend to be one of them, grown from an awkward and gangly teen to an adult dragon hottie.
Javier lacks ambition, and his wealthy dragon shifter father reminds him every day. No job on the resort interests him, until he meets a girl from his past with her entire future planned. Then an incident on the island thrusts him headfirst into his calling.
They're polar opposites, but Javier knows Yasmin belongs by his side. He'll just have to convince her that he deserves a chance.
Vivienne Savage is a resident of a small town in rural Texas. While she isn't writing fantasy or concocting ways for shapeshifters and humans to find their match, she raises two children and works as a nurse in a rural retirement home.
All works by Vivienne range from urban fantasy and sweet adult romance to spicy shifter fiction with an erotic kick. Visit her site to determine which series is best for you!
3.5 stars Yasmine a jaguar witch is in college and has career of her dreams. Javier shows no ambition doing only what he must for at his family's island resort. ADragon shifter that has yet to find his calling in life, he is bored of living the island life. He may not know what he wants but knows his dream is not taking over the island after his parents. After years apart Yasmine and her friends are sent on a winter break vacation to the island. There she meets old friends again including Javier. So what's a girl to do when she meets her childhood playmate and see that he has grown into a totally delicious man? I mean it can't be that hard to separate sex and friendship, right.
Well at least his body to be with his one and only. This dragon born went from lost and lonely beach bum to academic over achiever over night. But the author clearly illustrated that once you hear your calling it’s impossible to ignore it. I love seeing these characters together! They fit perfectly together and compliment each other. Well if they could just learn how to communicate that is. One misunderstanding almost cost them their perfect HEA. Thank goodness they have family and good friends ensuring that they make the connection. This book was a absolutely wonderful story and I can only hope the author eventually gets around to writing book two. This couple found their way to each other, but the author left so many opportunities for more things to come and I need to know what happens next.
Anyone who follows my reviews knows that I'll read anything Vivienne writes, and this is no exception. It also did not disappoint. I read the anthology version of this story, and could hardly wait for the expanded version of this story to come.
I love the growth of Javier's character as the story progresses--from the beach bum to the motivated young shifter with a purpose. I also love what that purpose turned out to be. His character arc is very finely crafted, and very believable.
I'll admit I was a bit confused by who Yasmin when I first read it. (Part of the 'problem' with ordering a book based solely on the author - I don't always read the blurbs.) Even with the clues as to who her parents were, it still look a moment to register it was River and Zac's daughter. But that confusion didn't detract from my enjoyment of her character. She is a fine example of a confident young woman who would naturally result from two of the most awesome parents anyone could hope to have. (River and Zac are, I think, my favorite characters.)
I'm excited to see this is Book 1 in a new series, as there are several threads that can be expanded, and I definitely want to see more from these characters!
Another fantasy romance hit from this prolific author. A young paranormal man and woman who were childhood friends become lovers due in part to their mothers' scheming. The man, Javier, is searching for a purpose in life, and finds one after saving a child from abduction. The two lovers have difficulty reconnecting because each think the other is indifferent. This book ties in with three other series ("Impractical Magic," "Dawn of the Dragons," and "Wild Operatives), some of which I have read in the past, but it stands on its own. Typos: "lay" repeatedly used for "lie," him spelled hm, cock (or possibly cock head) spelled cocked, sentence fragment ("Holy---" She gasped), "had never bothered explored" should be "exploring," comma used for semicolon, "collided with one dog's face" occurs before we know that dogs are present, "ignoring he was" needs "the fact that," extra "and" ("Despite being..., and Yasmin remained"), "just rose" should be "risen," list of food preceded by a comma instead of a colon, "he'd only showed up once" should be "shown," apostrophe s plural (M.O.'s).
Yasmin Riva (half witch, half shifter and a demigoddess) has been given an all expenses paid vacation with her two best friends to an exclusive holiday resort in Mexico. Since it’s winter in Texas, they are only too happy to go. Once there, she runs into a friend from her childhood, Javier, the son of the resort owner. Yasmin is a bit disappointed to realise that Javier is a layabout with, seemingly, no ambition. Despite this both of them get a shock to find themselves attracted to their, very grown up, childhood friend. So much so that they embark on a very hot and heavy affair. Unfortunately things happen that cause a lot of misunderstanding on both sides and Yasmin goes home heartbroken. Meanwhile A situation arises on the island that makes Javier reassess his life. He feels that he has let his mate leave and he is determined to prove himself to her and his parents. This book will appeal to all fantasy and shifter fans.
She comes to the paranormal island for vacation with friends and finds a childhood friend all grown up. But this dragon has some decisions to make that will change is life in this first book of a new series
