Alright

Fated mates and Insta-Love, but there’s enough of a political backdrop to hold the story together. Violet and Jayce are sweet and almost wholesome, introducing us to a new world where shifters are out in the open.... almost.

Pros:
- For an insta-love, it still reads well.
- Steamy.
- Good use of multiple POV

Cons:
- Little trite, been there, read similar.
- Felt rushed.

Wonderful start to a new series!

For adults only (18+ years or older) Contains some situations that may be triggers or offensive to some, including: adult language, steamy intimate scenes, and violence (kidnapping, attempted rape, assault and murder). If any of these are triggers or offensive to you, then this may not be the story or series for you.

This is the first story I have read by Amber. I have always enjoyed shifter, paranormal and science fiction stories especially when combined with romance. In this world, shifters are known to exist by humans, with the type of consequences expected for anyone different (fear, hatred, etc.).

In this story the heroine is trying to get away for away from her parents and ex-fiance that are smothering and crowding her. On the way to her high school friend's house, she is kidnapped when she stops to fill up her gas tank. From there she is transported to the woods where she is confronted by the two kidnappers and four more that arrive to meet them. Then the men all proceed to strip and start shifting into wolves. They one they address as alpha tells her to run so they can catch and breed her. So she takes off and runs as fast as she can. At one point, she crosses a stream before being caught by two of them. Just when she thinks it is the end, another wolf shows up and starts fighting them off, but not before one of them bit her.

I don't want to give away any of the twists or spoilers, so I am going to stop there and let you discover the rest by yourself.

I volunteered to leave a honest review of an ARC from the author and Booksprout. I enjoyed it enough to get it again through KU, despite some grammatical issues.

Violet stopped at a gas station and called her friend, Janet, who was allowing her to stay at her house for a couple of weeks while she got her life sorted out and put some distance between herself and her ex-fiancé. She would probably arrive in under two hours now, if she could avoid any speed traps. A van pulled up close behind her car as she pumped gas. She finished, when suddenly she was grabbed by strong arms and forced into the back of the van and it took off.

When the van stopped off the road, she had found a sharp piece of metal and leaped on one of her kidnappers. She cut his face up before she was thrown on the ground. She grabbed a rock and threw it. He growled, picked her up and threw her against a tree, then choked her until the other man told him not to kill her. Another vehicle drove up and two men exited; two more came from the trees. Then they all undressed and told her to run for her life – even though she would not get away. Each man had a tattoo of a black star in a circle. As they all started to turn into wolves, she ran!

At a stream, one wolf caught up to her. She grabbed a branch and hit it in the face twice, then ran again. But two wolves were on the path ahead. This time, however, a black wolf jumped in front of her and fought the other two. She turned to run and was knocked to the ground as a tan wolf bit into her shoulder -- in effect, marking her like a prize to breed. Then the black wolf ripped out the tan wolf’s throat! Violet started to feel nausea and her vision clouded. The black wolf changed to a handsome man and reassured her he would protect her. He also had a tattoo, but it was a crescent moon identifying the Timber Rock Pack.

When Violet woke up on a couch, the man who rescued her introduced himself as Jayce Pembroke. While Violet showered, Jayce called his Alpha and reported what had happened. Draven indicated that if he was correct about the situation, something very bad was coming that would affect all of them. Was Violet caught in the middle of a dangerous turf war? What would the two of them do once Jayce recognized her as his mate?

This was a great story! The story line moved along at a fast pace, suspenseful and riveting! The main characters were very likable. The human woman was a strong character and fought back well when she was defending herself. Jayne was a very caring, decisive pack enforcer that the reader knew could be relied on. I thoroughly enjoyed the story and definitely recommend it. The book was well-written and held my interest from beginning to end.

Pretty solid start to a shifter romance series, but nothing too unusual. 3 solid stars.

The story starts out with a bang, with the heroine being chased/hunted by a group of rogue wolves, and then rescued by the hero. Insta-love, but it is a fated mates sort of story. A fair amount of shifter politics is set up, creating storylines for the next several books in the series too.

I didn't mind the heroine. In these rescue sort of stories, I often get irritated by the hs who either seem to seek out trouble by ignoring all sane advice, or seem to be completely annoyingly helpless and screamy. Violet was pretty good. And Jayce is strong without being annoyingly, overbearingly alpha. They were actually pretty good together, though I'd have loved a bit more relationship building (even with the fated mates, it's nice to see).

The biggest fault I had was the proofreading. There were quite a number of incorrect words used - similar sounding words, or outright homophones used incorrectly. The one that caught me twice was "Murphy" used in the context of directions. As in 'this pack has the territory Murphy of the lake.' Is that a regional slang that I've never encountered before? Or was that an autocorrect error on north (closest cardinal direction to Murphy in terms of letters that I can see)? Anyway, these errors were frequent enough that they were disctracting. Plus there was an example of my pet peeve - the 1st person/3rd person shift. At one point, Jayce went from "I" to "He." So, yeah, a bunch of those sorts of errors that need a good proofreader.

Alternating 1st person POV. No cheating, no OW/OM drama (her ex is mostly referred to, up until his one appearance at the end, so just plot - no OTT drama there). No idiotic lack of communication drama. HEA and no cliffhangers for the main couple, though as mentioned, there are some bigger storylines laid out for the next couple books. Enjoyable afternoon read with some interesting points, but nothing too remakable. A fun bit of escapism that probably would have been 3.5 or 4 stars if those editing issues were worked out.

Would I read the next in the series? Sure, especially if another free Kindle find. The author also has several other shifter pack series that I'm going to check out too.

Jayce Shifters of Timber Rock
by Amber Ella Monroe
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Jayce is a great book to read. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and I liked every moment of reading it. I am happy that the book contain drama and surprises that makes reading it a enjoyable day, but not everyone has the same taste as l do. I enjoyed this book it's another one of Amber Ella Monroe's best and I have read it a few times and I enjoyed it every time and I never got tired of reading it. The first time I read a book it's just so I can review it plus to know if I enjoy it or not. But when I enjoy reading it and I don't want it to end then I definitely have to read it the second time so that I get the full enjoyment of reading the story. Of course then I read it again just for the entertaining and joy of reading it. Jayce is the the kind of book that I totally enjoy reading and now as this be my third time reading Jayce I can write what I enjoyed about the story. This is Jayce and Violet’s story. It's full of drama, oh my the scenes are so hot sexy, the characters are captivating and they seem so realistic. The sheer diversity of the paranormal creatures is one of the things that draws me to this story. Then there's the suspense which keeps me turning the pages. Well everything has to end some time, even a book with a truly wonderful HeA. Jaycee is an excellent addition to the Shifters of Timber Rock series. I can’t wait to read more of this series. In the meantime, I guess I can go back and read Jayce again. I highly recommend this book.

3.5 stars

This book had a lot of untapped potential. I realize that there is an over-arching story, and I have not read the whole series.
The main bad guy asks his henchmen if they left any trace of the girl, and they say they didn't. But they left her car at a gas station. How is that "no trace"?
Violet is a weak main character. She doesn't want to stand up to her family so she runs away to a friend's house. I don't really feel like she grows throughout the story. She stands up to her ex- at one point in the story, but I didn't feel like she had grown to that point. Also, until the very last chapter she is still planning to go home. There seems to be no internal struggle about wanting to stay.
Jayce is protective, but then keeps leaving her alone which I find not very protective at all. He says "no one would come on my property." I find it very hard to believe a property line would have stopped the bad guys in this.
The fight between Jayce and the bad guy was more than a little anticlimactic, and it seemed the climax was more of what happens as a result of this fight (I don't want to give it away, and the fight was inevitable).
Overall, it was an enjoyable read, just felt it had a few issues.

The couple: Jayce and Violet

Romance trope: shifter
Series: Shifters of Rock Timber
Length: 218 pages

Plot: Violet is on her way out of town, intending to leave her parents and ex-fiancé behind for a little while. She's going to visit a friend, but before she can get there, she's kidnapped by a group of shifters who want to use her as a breeder. She runs and is saved by Jayce, who starts a war by interfering in the rogue pack's business. The people in town aren't too fond of shifters, so any conflict is a reason for them to get involved as well.

Commentary: Violet had a terrible introduction to shifters, but Jayce is ready to take care of her even if it starts a war. I think that a lot of the shifters in the area were hoping for a chance to engage with the rogues and maybe even the bigoted town members as well. There was some area politics that will probably play into the plot of further books in the series.

Next book in the series: Treyton

I just didn’t get into this book enough to care what happens, I tried to keep going, but ended up on Facebook instead -avoiding reading. The characters are flat, & didn’t care about them. On top of that, this didn’t fit the blurb, that said “One look at her face. One moment in her presence. That’s all it takes. I know she belongs to me.” - well nothing like that happened, he didn’t realize she was his until his cousin mentions her mate mark! The blurb makes it sound like he’s the alpha, when in fact he’s an enforcer, not that there’s anything wrong with an enforcer as the MMC, just that the blurb was very misleading. Luckily, the book was free, but I’m deleting it from myKindle library immediately. I probably won’t read more by this author either.

At my age (61), life is way too short & my time is too important to force myself to read a book I'm not enjoying, especially when there are so many other books out there waiting to be read.

Wow what a fantastic read I loved every bit of this story. Violet grew up with a privileged life she is also being married off to a man she considers her friend but no more. She takes off but ends up getting kidnaped and taken into the forest and she starts screaming. Jayce was in the woods when he hears a woman screaming he goes to her rescue and he immediately knows that she is his mate and no one absolutely no one hurts his mate. I loved this story it had action right from the start there’s also suspense, danger, love, passion and so much more to keep you entertained and turning the pages. A fantastic story a 5 plus ⭐️ read and I highly recommend this book it’s definitely well worth the read.

A very good start to a new shifter series! Jayce Pembroke and Violet Murphy are brought together under desperate circumstances to discover that the chemistry they feel is more than just a mutual attraction to each other. Jayce and Violet find themselves pitted against a town opposed to its shifter population and fighting for their lives against a pack of rogue shifters out for vengeance & revenge.

This story is fast-paced and engaging with interesting characters; full of action, drama, and hot, steamy shifter passion. It’s an easy read that is hard to put down. I recommend this as a very appealing start to what will be an exciting new series!

Violet just wanted to get away. Her parents are pressuring her to marry a man sh doesn't love, and her ex-fiance isn't taking her rejection well. She never expected to meet a sexy wolf shifter, or to fall in love with him. When Jayce hears a woman screaming, not far from his home, he immediately runs to investigate. He had no idea he would be saving his fated mate from a rival pack of wolf shifters with a bad reputation.
As always, Ms. Monroe has created sexy and beautifully well written characters, and a fascinating plot with unexpected twists. Fantastic book, I loved it!

This is the start of a new series and it is amazing! 💘

Once they get her to the forest, she realizes how much trouble she's in as she learns they are wolf shifters. After telling her what they are going to do to her, they tell her to run... and she does. I read the box set a while ago and cannot remember it even after reading my review.
Books further in the Mate Marked series have caught my eye so reading again to see how I get on.
Likeable characters and this story starts off with some gripping action.
Violet is on her way to her friends after kicking her fiancé to the kerb. Stopping for fuel, she is kidnapped by rogue wolves and then let loose to run from her kidnappers. They plan to catch her and impregnate her for a breeding plan.
Violet is lucky enough to run in the right direction and is saved by Jayce who turns out to be her mate.
There is more to the rogues’ story and this will carry on into the next book.
Hated the baddies but will be interested to read the next book.
Enjoyable read through KU.

Violet is on her way to her friends, escaping from her parents unreasonable demands and an ex who won't take no for an answer. When she stops for gas she is abducted.
Jayce comes to her rescue and saves her. He takes her back to his place to keep her safe until she can get back on her way.
This is where the adventure of a lifetime starts for Violet as she learns more about the world and what she really wants in her life.
I loved this story and know you will too.

I received an ARC edition of this book from the author.

Although Jayce and Janet meet under what are clearly less than ideal circumstances, him saving her from being attacked by rogue wolves, there is a great chemistry between them. The story has great pacing, I didn't want to put the story down. I do think there were a few plot points that came across as a bit rough or unnecessary, but not enough to distract from the total story.

Overall, this is a good story if you are a fan of shifter, fated-mates. I'm looking forward to reading more Shifters of Timber Rock stories.

Loved It!

I loved Jayce and Violet's story. It's steamy and well written. It has everything I could want in a paranormal romance. Jayce will do anything to protect his pack as the Timber Rock packs enforcer. He rescues Violet who was kidnapped and is being hunted by rogue shifters. Jayce has found his mate match in Violet but will she stay and accept Jayce? She was running from her own problems at home when she was kidnapped. I can't wait to read more books in this series. This author has gained another fateful follower.

This is the first book I've read by Amber Ella Monroe and was not disappointed. This is a fast paced book that has some violence, language and other things that might cause triggers in adults. The storyline and characters were well written and kept me turning the pages. Jayce rescues Violet from being attacked because he knows she is his mate.

This was a fantastic wolf shifter romance! I really enjoyed the chemistry between Jayce and Violet. The sexy sensual scenes were perfectly executed in this whirlwind romance that left me wanting more. There's a wonderful story here about the other shifter clans, the human involvement, and a species that needs to find their place among chaos and mistrust. I look forward to reading the others soon. I highly recommend giving this book a try!

Very well written. Exciting, funny, emotional, intriguing, suspenseful, hot and so much more. She is headed to a friend's when some guys take her for what looks like a mating chase. Against her will but she fights them tooth and nail. It holds your interest tremendously and I highly recommend it. I was given a review copy by book sprout and voluntarily review it.

This is a NON-SPOILER REVIEW. Jayce: Shifters of Timber Rock by Amber Ella Monroe is a fast paced, quick read that introduces the Timber Rock Shifters and their brethren. There's a ton of action, sexy shifters, drama, steamy sex and did I mention sexy shifters. Jayce and Violet's story is a not so sweet and definitely spicy story that will leave you smiling and wanting more!

Two 👍 up

Marshall got bested by Violet in the beginning. I didn't like her parents in the beginning especially her father. Since when do a parent decide who you can date/marry. Her father is an idiot missing out on Violet as a person really is. Jayce is my sweet heart. He has a heart of gold. I highly recommend this read. Wonderful story

Aweful

I always feel bad giving bad reviews because I feel like maybe someone likes these books. However, this book was terrible. The information felt so forced and pushy. The sex scenes were very awkward, no heat at all. The characters were one dimensional. I will not finish the series.

Only Part of the Story

New author, new series and what a way to feed my shifter romance habit! Jayce is a hunky, brave wolf shifter who stumbles on an attempted kidnapping. His heroic act in saving the victim turns his entire world upside down. I can’t wait to read more about his pack mates and see how they solve the rogue wolf problem.
