This is not just a textbook or a workbook; it's a masterpiece written by America's favorite Catholic author, Matthew Kelly, and illustrated by an internationally acclaimed children's book artist. Through the combination of incredible content and more than 250 hand-painted works of art, this workbook captures children's imaginations and opens their eyes to God's incredible dream for their lives.
Matthew Kelly is a best-selling author, speaker, thought leader, entrepreneur, consultant, spiritual leader, and innovator.
He has dedicated his life to helping people and organizations become the-best-version-of-themselves. Born in Sydney, Australia, he began speaking and writing in his late teens while he was attending business school. Since that time, 5 million people have attended his seminars and presentations in more than 50 countries.
Today, Kelly is an internationally acclaimed speaker, author, and business consultant. His books have been published in more than 30 languages, have appeared on The New York Times, Wall Street Journal, and USA Today bestseller lists, and have sold more than 50 million copies.
In his early-twenties he developed "the-best-version-of-yourself" concept and has been sharing it in every arena of life for more than twenty-five years. It is quoted by presidents and celebrities, athletes and their coaches, business leaders and innovators, though perhaps it is never more powerfully quoted than when a mother or father asks a child, "Will that help you become the-best-version-of-yourself?"
Kelly's personal interests include golf, music, art, literature, investing, spirituality, and spending time with his wife, Meggie, and their children Walter, Isabel, Harry, Ralph, and Simon.
I purchased this workbook to help prepare my daughter for her First Reconciliation. The illustrations are very cute, but overall I am very disappointed in this workbook and cannot recommend it to others. It is filled with errors; most are grammatical (not capitalizing any of the pronouns referring to God throughout the book), but the most alarming error I have come across is in referring to Jesus. In the third paragraph on page 44, Matthew Kelly writes: "God is constantly trying to show us the best way to live. He gave Moses the Ten Commandments to share with us so that we could live holy lives. He sent Jesus to clear the confusion about what is right and what is wrong. After Jesus died, rose from the dead and ascended into heaven, God the Father sent the Holy Spirit to guide us." Jesus is God, one with the Father, Who became Man to ransom Himself for our sins, and opened the gates of Heaven that were closed after the sin of Adam and Eve. He is the promised Savior we're invited to follow so that we may spend eternity glorifying Him in Heaven. Suggesting that Jesus' only purpose was to "clear confusion" seems to border on heresy. Another problem that I came across is in the last sentence on page 66, where Matthew Kelly suggests it may be a good idea to "name your Guardian Angel, so you can speak with him or her throughout the day." This practice is actually discouraged by the Church, and here is a link to a wonderful article on Catholic Company's website explaining why: https://www.catholiccompany.com/magaz... I have contacted Dynamic Catholic about these errors, and hope that they will be corrected in subsequent editions.
