AJ was everything right that could go wrong if left unnourished. And wrong he went. Wrong. That's all he can feel when he wakes up to his self-created carnage. Looking up from rock bottom at the bridges he's burned, AJ knows something has to give. His first two steps, he decides, are to try and mend his broken friendships and seek the help he needs to heal his broken spirit. In doing so, he meets a group of misfits who are the antithesis to the filthy rich and ego-stroking crowd he's grown accustomed to. They hold his feet to the fire and breath life back into his weary lungs. He has to wonder, though; is it possible to stay above water while still tethered to one of the anchors that sank you?

Austin is just trying to stay afloat in a sea of overflowing money, men, and women. Being that he doesn't know how to rightfully give his heart to one person while his body is being spread so thin, he decides his best bet is to be single. His girlfriend quit him, he quit his boyfriend, and his best friend is recovering from a life-altering accident. He's not one to hold grudges, and he's seen what guilt's done to AJ, so he tries to tread with caution in a lifestyle full of snares.

Maggie was everything that could go right if properly nurtured. Her priorities have always been herself and her business, the latter of which means she has to make sure AJ gets back on track. Thankfully, nothing is ever more than a minor glitch in her master plan. Nothing, even the things that have stressed her, have ever proven unfixable. Her smarts and money have always been all she's ever needed. That is until she meets two people for the price of one who put everything she thought she knew into perspective. For the first time in her life, she might just love somebody, two somebodies, more than she loves herself. However, it's always during a calm that storms creep in and capsize ships. Soon Maggie is forced to confront the fact that there are things far worse that can breach her business than policemen and coke binges. Things all the savviness and money in the world can't fix.

First I'd like to thank C.M. Arnold for allowing me to read her book series.

The great thing about a series be it a book series or tv series is that you get to really know the characters. You get invested in their lives. You care what happens to them. They become your fictional friends.

The bad thing about a series is you get to know the characters. You get invested in their lives. You care what happens to them. So that makes it all the more horrible when something truly terrible happens to them.

While reading Affliction I felt like C.M. Arnold had reached into my chest and pulled my heart out. She is a terrible person. I had to take a break from reading it because I felt actual grief.

Miss Arnold you are a monster.

I don't know what it is about this series that pulls me in so deeply. I just like the characters and I need to know what happens to them.

Recommended to readers of New Adult Contemporary & Sexy Romance.
