This is the story of a girl who, after shutting herself away from the world and relying only on a voice in the dark for happiness, discovers in a stranger that there can be beauty and meaning in a life outside of her daydreams.
Lucy is a dreamer, living inside fantasies whispered to her by her "light" while disregarding the world around her--and Michael is a lost boy who travels the world, seeking the beautiful and wondrous in the faint hope that he will find something that can bring him peace. It is only together, under the guidance of Lucy's four guardians, that the two of them can find the happiness that eludes them and the strength to live their lives without fear.
