The set of three books is about as long as a good size novel. The three stories are not about Reacher, but a character from a Reacher book. There are numerous references to Reacher as the stories are set in the Reacher universe with Lee Child's permission.
The main Character is Lauren Pauling, a Former FBI agent. She also interacts with Michael Tallon a ex-military acquaintance. They both have ties to reacher from previous stories by Lee Child.
The stories read quick and are not necessary action-packed, but are good solid mysteries/thrillers.
The stores reference Reacher too much for my tastes, i understand the need to make the connection, but at some point the two characters can stand on their own, as Reacher does not show up in the stories anyway. A very minor quibble and maybe it is needed for other reasons.
The three stories are good solid stories, each different and enjoyable.
Reacher, or mention of him, gets around. Dan Ames, with permission by Lee Child, has written a series of books around a character in one of Child's Reacher series. Lauren Pauling, former special agent with the FBI, works on cases where Reacher is at least mentioned. In the first, she comes to identify his body, only it's not him, just a lure to get her there. And she's the lure for Mike Tallon. Both of these characters are in all three of these books, and they're really strong characters. The plots are really good, too. Reacher's not in them, but the physical stuff is. Well written.
Needless to say, I'm a bit disappointed. I knew that Dan Ames wasn't the original Jack Reacher author, but I figured Ames had been commissioned to add novels to an existing Idea, similar to the different authors that write Star Trek. There no need to use the Reacher name to get people to read the story. I did enjoy the above reading. Edit out that Reacher parts and you'll have a novel!
Books one and two were quick and enjoyable. I really don't see the need for the "Jack Reacher Universe" thing, but it's probably easier to start a tale in a known place than build one up. I'm not enamored with the main character, Pauling, especially in book three, where she suddenly doesn't remember she met Michael Tallon (who is a much better character, in all three books). Also in book three she just doesn't act like herself in the previous books. It's almost as if book three was written first, by someone else other than the author, Dan Ames, and put in the series as the third book. I'm sure if I had read book three first, I would not have ventured on to read the other two. I probably won't read any more, unless they star Michael Tallon.
I just finished the three stories in this set. Since I have read most of the Jack Reacher books, I was interested to see how Dan Ames would incorporate him into the stories.
Each of the stories revolved around Pauling who had previously worked with Jack Reacher while she was in the FBI. Each of the cases that are identified that she is working on were the direct result of mentioning Jack Reacher who was requesting her help.
I enjoyed the way that she interacted with Michael Talon and all off the other individuals in each of the stories. The method that she used to resolve each of the cases was quite interesting.
THE RIGHT MAN FOR REVENGE by Dam Ames A body but was it really Jack, so once we are hooked into another thrilling chase. Lauren and Michale are called in, and soon finds there is more than what it looks like. There expertise is challenged, to prove one way or another. He is developing the characters more of Lauren and Michale which is nice. Good work and readers will enjoy, and look for the next one.
I purchased the books after watching a show on net flex about Jack reacher. But no jack in these books. Instead I found three different stories that were convoluted, with weird parts where things just materialized out of the blue. Kinda weird and confusing. WTF going on here. Looks like someone just figured out a way to sell overpriced books on Amazon. Mr Ames enjoy your $. I'm done with you! Rock on!
If you’re going to write about nukes, do your research. FOA, Sandia NATIONAL Labs doesn’t transport nukes or nuclear warheads or or special nuclear material (SNM). Anything nuclear that is transported, OST does it. You make it sound like nuclear weapons are running around on our highways. DOD owns and controls the weapon; DOE owns and controls the SNM. They are NEVER brought together without the order of POTUS. All this is public info.
I have read everyone of the Jack Reacher Cases and this is a great start for anyone to get hooked on this series. Each book is very fast paced and high energy. You will meet characters that have known Jack Reacher in the past. I enjoy this authors books of Jack Reacher as much as Lee Childs books. I highly recommend this series.
I got this book because I love the Jack Reacher series. I was disappointed that Reacher's name is mentioned a few times, but does not make any appearance or have any part in the book at all.
Dan Ames is a very good author though, and I gave this book 5 stars as it was entertaining and very well written.
Like the main character Ms Pauling, I kept looking for Jack Reacher. I should have guessed he was never going to appear since he had been the teaser in the first two books. The only reason I read these books was my enjoyment of Jack Reacher. Still they were a fast easy read and good distraction.
I am a jack reacher geek. So these books were essential to have. In reading the first set I realize that they placed the protagonists in predicaments from the early Jack reacher series .… Extensive planning, brute force, the enforceable honor code, always success! Looking forward to reading the rest of this compendium
Pauling is a great female power character with lots of twists & turns during the book. Just can't figure out Michael Tallon as she seems to not know him in book 3 but did in book 2? Whole different storyline set on San Clemente island.
Each book stands alone which is great! Probably A man made for killing is the best of the three but not by much. All are fast paced and interesting, with short chaps that keep you turning pages. My new author, great going Ames!
Pauling is a great central character. Dual plot lines. Fast paced action. Books 1,2,3 stand alone but connect nicely. Looking to the last 2 books in this series.
Wasn't sure what I'd come up against with these 3 books as I'd already read book 6 or 7 and it was very ordinary. So my expectations were low, but not for long. Absolutely worth the read
Nice to get into the Reacher Universe in a new and different way after reading the books that come out once a year within a few weeks of their release. The heroine, Lauren Pauling, is smart, tough and persistent like Reacher. The 3rd book has an ending you don't see coming!
This is the third story of this " so called Reacher Cases". What a rip off , using the Reacher name might make this author few extra bucks . Truth is the stories are good enough to stand on own merit . Shame on Kindle ! Scs
Unfortunately I felt that these books were “Reacher” in name only. They all mention his name at some point but for me the stories, writing, and characters just don’t come anywhere near the quality of a real Reacher story.
I liked this box set because I enjoyed following the development of the characters interactions with Pauling and trying to solve the case, before the author solved it.
First two books are ok. Third not so good - too slow, too much needles descriptive detail of scenery and way out of sequence. Most disappointing - referencing JACK REACHER who was not even in the three books except as mentions. Very misleading advertising. Maybe legal but I will not be reading any additional books by this author labelled as "Jack Reacher".
Like all the other books with Reacher in the title, he was absent. Lee should grant them a small critical appearance to maintain the (level 14 yo) interest.
I was disappointed at first to discover that this was not actually a Jack Reacher book. Having finished books 1, 2 and 3, I found them very suspenseful. I could barely put them down.
This has been an easy read. Sit on the edge of your seat story. At first I expected Jack Reacher to make an appearance but the characters in this book make it worth reading
