House Party
Katie’s mom and stepdad want to go away for the weekend to Burmuda. Katie’s mom is skeptical about leaving the children alone, but Emily convinces her she can take care of them. Katie isn’t sure this is a good idea.
On the way to BJH, Michel teases about it being party time, but Katie says no parties. Michel shrugs it off. Sabs invites them all to hang out with her the next day at the mall and a sleepover. Katie says her mom wants her to go to a dinner party at the country club. But she says she’s sure it's for adults. However, her mom tells her it's important. Katie asks if she can go after. Her mom just says we’ll see.
Katie and her mom go shopping the next day (minus Emily who’ll go shopping with her when she and Jean-Paul come back). Katie doesn’t want to go to the dinner, but forgets once they hit up the new mall in Minneapolis she gets into the outing. Katie wants to go into the sporting goods store and get new skates, but Her mom says not today. Katie and her mom go to this upscale boutique where they seel coffee and croissants. Everything in the store costs hundreds and thousands of dollars.
Mrs. B isn’t phased. Her man is rich! It must be nice! Her mom picks out a sexy dress for dancing and a couple more outfits. Then Katie picks some outfits. One of them is a green, wool, skirt for 100 dollars. The other is a cream, silk, shirt. (A wool skirt and a silk shirt???) The other outfit is a red, plaid, jumper. Katie is a little weirded out by it all. Next, they go to the shoe store for matching shoes for their outfits. Katie wants to go to the sports store, but her mother goes to another store. Katie gets a green sweater with a horse on it, two pairs of corduroy pants, a pair of jeans, the wool skirt, a button-down shirt (that will have her initials), and a winter coat with an Indian design. After this, they have lunch and go home. When they get home, there are caterers everywhere. Before long, they’re all dressed and waiting for their guests. Katie asks her mom if she can go to Sabs after and she says she’ll see what time it is. After a while, she dismisses them to another room. When the guest leave it’s after nine and it’s too late to go to Sabs.
The next morning, Sabs invites Katie over for breakfast since she couldn’t make the sleepover. They’re making pancakes. Katie tells her friends about the shopping and then gets embarrassed, but they’re cool about it. On Monday Katie asks her driver to pick her up at Fizes. At Fitzes, they hear some guy talking about a party. Come to find out Michel has been going around inviting everyone over. Micel walks in and Katie immediately jumps on his case. He says it’s just their friends, But before she can chew him out her driver comes. On the way out, Katie bumps into a cute eighth-grade boy named Ted.
Later Katie confronts Micheal. about the party, but for all her concerns he has an answer. It’ll just be there friends, Emily won’t be there, and neither will Mrs. At lunch the next day, Ted is staring at Katie. Scottie comes over and tells her he and the rest of the hockey team will be at the party. Then Ted comes over to there table, introduces himself, and asks Katie to go to Firzes. But Katie turns him down and says she has to go right home. Ted seems cool with it and asks her out Saturday night instead. He says there’s this party. Katie knows that’s the night of Michel’s party but then the light bulb comes on and she realizes it’s her party. He says he’ll see her there. Scottie sees this and he’s not happy with it. (Oh GAWD. HERE WE GO) He storms out of the cafeteria.
Since Michel won’t call the party off, Katie goes to Emily and tries to convince her to stay home, But she says she’s going to a high school party that’s really important. Ted is a lil too eager for this party. He comes up to Katie on Friday and asks is it still on When she tells him she’s not sure if they’re gonna be having it, he offers to send his brother and his friends by to check it out.
On the night of the party, it takes Mrs. Smith (the housekeeper) forever to leave. Sabrina and her brothers show up early and Michel slams the door on them and tells her (Mrs. Smith) it was a salesperson. After she leaves, people start showing up. At first, it’s cool. Then high school kids sstart showing up. Ted and his friends show up with beer and cognac. Michel tries to stop Ted from drinking but he ignores him. By now, the music is turned up full blast. Scottie and Ted are arguing. Someone was dancing on the pool table. Someone else has crushed chips on the floor. Someone else is throwing CDS on the floor. Ted and Scottie are about to get into a fight. Both guy's friends jump in on it. Billy says he’ll call his older brothers to get things under control. Someone knocks on the door. It’s the Acorn Falls police.
Emily calls Sabrina and has been calling home and there’s no answer. Sabrina tells her about the party. Emily says she’ll go straight home. Al, Randy, and Sab wait for Luke so they can rush over and help Katie. The police were already alerted by Katie’s mom to check up on things since they’d be away. The police then take down everyone’s name at the party and collect the beer. They give Emily a lecture in private. Sabs apologizes for telling, but Katie says it’s a good thing she did. They agree it’s a good thing they came. The police decide not to press charges, but their names are on file. The police won’t snitch on them tho. They do take the beer. Ted smiles at Katie on the way out, but she’s over him. Afterward, Katie’s friends try to stay to help, but the officers tell them to go home. A valuable plate gets broken. They decide to tell their parents about the party but decide to clean up so it’ll make the punishment less severe.
They aren’t able to finish that night so the GT girls come by to help the next morning. They finish just in time as Mr. and Mrs. B return. Then Katie remembers that Ted had JP’s cognac and Michel hide it somewhere. Micheal rushes off to find it, while the GT girls greet them. Michel returns the cognac in time. Mr. and Mrs. B ask what they’ve been up to and the GT girls make their exit, leaving Emily, Kaite, and Michel to face the music.
My Thoughts:
OMG! Didn’t these people ever watch House Party? I mean I know it’s probably not “on their radar” considering the only pop culture reference of color was in “Drummer Girl” and that was Sheila E. But I'm sure there are other movies in the eighties and nineties about I was just waiting for the party Emily was hyped about going to turn out to be at her own house. Michel may be Canadian but I KNOW he knows how these things typically end up. He even got a warning when he heard Ted was coming and inviting some other guys. SMH! I guess it’s just something appealing to teens and pre-teens to break the rules and throw parties while their parents are gone. I guess I never had that urge. I was far from perfect as a teen and yes I had my share of getting caught, but mine was stuff like getting caught being somewhere I didn’t need to be with someone I was going out with. The wild party thing just never appealed to me. I probably was the odd person that went my parent went and left me alone, I was just looking forward to it being quiet and still for a change.

these books were like reading a diary each book was different though it was like you were in school again.

all books from this serial were with me in my childhood and puberty-time ;) and in that time it was great. One time...I will read it with my daughters
