Sabrina, Katie, Randy, and Allison are eager to go on their seventh grade class trip to Minneapolis when they find out they will be staying in the same hotel as their favorite rock muscian
The middle school is on its worst behavior and the administration decides to create a ridiculous set of rules that students have to follow in order to take their planned class trip. Now they have to write papers about Shakespeare, attend museum outings, and are graded on wardrobe and decorum.
At the same time, rockstar Dylan Palmer is playing *in the same city* the class is visiting, and snobby Stacey rubs it in everyone's faces that she has front-row tickets.
Sabrina and the girls wind up in a suite away from the rest of their class, thanks to a double booking, and that means they're on the same floor as Dylan! When his guitar is accidentally delivered to their room, the girls save the day and are rewarded with concert tickets of their own.
Loved the bits about the girls raiding the mini-bar before realizing how much everything costs. :D
Mr. Handson makes an announcement there’s a special assembly the third day. Sabs knows that the seventh graders are in trouble. There’s a class trip to Minneapolis but Sabs thinks it’ll be called off. Some people were supposed to come in and observe their class and be on their best behavior. But someone took the B out of the school sign so now it reads RAD HIGH SCHOOL. Then in class they cut up when a movie is played health class (that’s corny and they all can’t hold in their laughs). Then they start throwing spitballs at the screen. They all talk about it at lunch and conclude that they probably think it’s someone in their class because rad is in their class slogan. They all decide to do something Saturday if the trip is canceled (have a sleepover and go rollerblading). Then Stacey comes over. Stacey “pretends” she’s dropped some tickets that “flew off her tray”. Tickets to the Dylan Palmer concert (Sabrina’s new flavor of the week). So of course, she’s jealous. Stacey points out she has five tickets and there are only four of them. Randy asks her did she release this and then tells everyone to give her a hand. Then she tells her nobody cares. Stacey tho says she knows who does.
Sabs says all she’d give her is (she sees a banana and picks it up). People start chanting at her to throw it but Sabs can’t. All of a sudden chocolate, cream, pie, hits Stacey. Then a food fight breaks out. The special visitors pick then to show up. Mr. Handson just turns on his heel and leaves with the visitors. Weirdly the teachers don’t say anything about the food fight. But they are reminded of the assembly. Sabs wishes they’d just cancel the trip and get it over with. At the assembly, they get chewed out (especially because the visitors were from the Bard of Education and coming to give them the schedule of events). But since the trip was already planned it’ll still take place. Although he warns them it’ll be more work than play. Work as in museums, a fancy hotel, and a Shakespeare play. (which doesn’t sound like work at all). Mr. Handson says they’ll be graded on the trip and have to take special classes. They’ll have to bring in a packed suitcase on Monday.
Sabrina has to bring this huge, orange, monstrosity to school. In the lunchroom, the schedule is set up for what the classes will be about. Day 1 (orientation, organization) Day 2 (responsibility) Day 3 (grooming) and speech, and Day 4 (respect), Then they split up the students in alphabetical order and the line is boy girl boy girl. One of the teachers shows how (neatly) her suitcase is packed then asks to see what they packed. Sabs won’t come open at first and then when it does she sees she’s split nail polish all over her clothes and socks. They then have orientation. They’ll have 100 points and every time they break a rule they’ll lose five points. They go over the rules. They’re handed a ton of pappers and finally, the class ends. The classes get harder and harder until finally, they’re over. Randy doesn’t think they (the teachers) will be able to keep up what’s going on to enforce all those rules. The others aren’t sure. While at the store, Sabrina sees in a magazine that Dylan will be staying at the Oaks Hotel (the same one they’ll be staying at). Sabrina calls Katie and schemes on ways she can meet Dylan.
Randy and Katie say they don’t know. He’ll probably have bodyguards. Randy has asked he Dad could he get them tickets but he’s on a job in France and can’t help them. Allison tells Sabrina that Stacey’s uncle owns the hotel they’ll be staying at. Sabs realizes this is how Stacey got tickets. On the day of the trip, Sabs is on time but because she didn’t read the dress code her outfit is wrong, Everyone else is dressed like they’re going out to a social event (raises eyesrows for a bus trip). One of the ules is no pants. Fortunately, Randy isn’t dressed right either. (Arizonna isn’t either) U mm because no one dresses up for a BUS TRIP! Then Sabs forgot her ID tags for her bags so she gets 10 points off. Stacey gets points off for talking loud in public and putting on makeup on the bus. Sam gets points off for his seat falling back and him falling in her lap. Randy gets points off for chewing gum and having on her headphones. Then they’re given some worksheets to do and have to read their tour books to answer the questions. Then they do some sightseeing (by bus). Then they check into the hotel. By this time they’re practically scared to breathe because they’ve gotten so many points off. Sabrina’s suitcase goes flying out of control and she loses five more points.
The other Mr. Hanson tells the girls they don’t have any more rooms on their classmate's floors. So, they give them a master suite on the 2oth floor. The suite is gorgeous and they spend an hour just checking everything out. But they forget all about dinner. They were supposed to meet their teacher by six. They see a refrigerator but it’s sealed. So, they break the seal and start taking out the food. Then they start dressing for the play that night. Then Katie notices a folder with the prices of all the things in the refrigerator (expensive prices).
The play is terrible! All the actors speak in British accents making it hard to understand them. During the second half of the play, Sabrina gets asked to sit in the lobby. Sam gets thrown out for yelling “Turn Up the Volume”. Allison gets put out because her watch won’t stop beeping.
The next day they get a delivery to their suite for Dylan’s guitar. Sabs doesn’t correct the mistake. They say their his daughters-nieces. Soon they hear a communion. It’s the bodyguard. They quickly tell him they have the guitar and he gives them all tickets to the concert. After this they get permission to go to the concert on their free night. Before they go to the concert, they attend a nice restaurant. Sam forgets his jacket and has to get one from the matre’d that’s two sizes too big and yellow. The best part of the night is when the kids going to the concert get on the bus and Stacey gets shocked when she sees Randy, Allison, Katie, and Sabrina (and with better tickets). Dylan dedicates “You’re the One For Me” “to those great girls in Suite 23.” Sabrina thinks it’s the best thing that’s ever happened to her. ‘
My Thoughts This trip did NOT sound fun. First of I get what the teachers were trying to do AND they did do a good job of it, They took ALL the fun out of this trip but I think they went to far trying to turn this trip into one big etiquette lesson. No one dresses (that I know) wears dress clothes on a bus trip. Well I guess you *could* if you wanted to, but for a school trip? Unless it IS to a play or production. Even then there should be time to get settled in your room and get dressed FOR the trip. I’m surprised they didn’t take off points for talking during the trip. I think they took them off for Stacey talking loudly. Then how can you take points off for an accident (which was the case with Sabrina’s luggage). So, I do think these teachers went TOO FAR (the headphones, the chewing gum). The hotel sounded NICE! The suite sounded NICE! I would have wanted the pink room too! The concert sounded fun too. So I guess there were some good parts in the trip. The refrigerator definitely should have been in all those rules somewhere.
