Favorite lines: "I dunno. Either way / the chickens still roost, / but they know what to do." ("Instinct", 5). These lines, oddly enough, capture the essence of the book for me. For me, this whole book played on this idea of instinct, asking questions that we all know our own answers to. Things that are part of our identities and ways, but singular to our independent selves. Probably my favorite poem was "A Poem in Which" just for the landscape it painted. I felt so hard the world Scout Kelly created there, and want it so badly for myself and everyone I know. This is a great micro-chapbook. Worth all of your time to read and then re-read (seriously, re-read this one).
