When I was a kid, I was torn between whether or not I was going to grow up and be the Incredible Hulk or Wonder Woman. I flirted with being a Jedi Knight for awhile, but I wasn't up for the intense travel associated with the gig. In my teens, I settled on being a writer -- although I had no idea the effort that would entail.
Not only am I a writer now, but I'm a writer in several different mediums. I'm a longtime newspaper reporter, an avid reader and a voracious science fiction fanatic.

SUPER

This was a series written superbly. The connections between the characters and each other and reader is real. The characters are believable, as is the story line. I was engrossed in this book from the beginning. The connection between two of the main characters, whom are dating is beyond love, it's truly beautiful, the kind of love that concurs all. I wish I could rate this higher than a 5. This book is like a magic carpet ride.

There is also three books out tell the story of after college 5 years into the future. It's mostly concentrated on the two main characters that were dating in the series. I haven't read them yet, I hope to see some familiar faces, and more of Raphael that very handsome brooding hunk of supernatural.

In all honesty, I almost didn't read the series. The first part of the first story was tedious and I felt no connection whatsover to any of the characters presented in the story. There were a couple of times I came close to closing out the book on my kindle and calling it a wash.

But because I've read the author's other series and absolutely loved them, I decided to have a little faith and trudge through the first book. So so so so so GLAD I did! After the first quarter of the first book, things improved immensely and by the end of it, I came to the decision that Zoe is my spirit animal. :D

Loved this and really eager to read the two trilogies that follow the series.

Unlikeable protagonist. Obviously didn't research anything remotely Pagan (Samhain isn't a god). Used 'nonplussed' too many times and incorrectly. Also used 'could care less' as opposed to 'couldn't care less' at least twice. Seemed to enjoy putting Twilight on blast a lot but certainly didn't even meet that mediocre standard as a story or writer either. Weak and tiresome overall.

Pretty good end to the first volumes in the series

I was about to give it 3 stars, thinking it was just A-okay as a teenager series (Young Adult?) but pleased to bump it up to 4 after finishing that last volume. It wrapped up nicely, answered all questions easily but thoroughly and was decently enjoyable. It's an unpretentious series with a lot of teenage drama (eye rolling here) but hey, it just means it's meant for the right audience. I can get behind that :-) I think the future of the series has a lot of potential, and from the looks of it has gone in the right direction.

College paranormal

She is the girl we all want to grow into. Attitude, snark, and independence rules! She’s bright and loyal and something more.

Loved this series. The humor is great and smart and the anti-heroine is unique. And the cherry is that plenty happens that doesn't rely on physical conflict in every chapter. I get so tired of modern fantasy that is just an assemblage of endless fight and battle "action" scenes that amount to not much more than filler.

A Degree in

There's a lot going on at this campus that would never be in the catalog or student ratings. A frat house of werewolves, a sorority of witches, vampires with a taste for young partying students (they only sip), and an Academy of 'monster hunters'. Into this we drop a freshman, Zoe Lake, who knows nothing about any of it, nor the fact that she's a mage. And all the supernaturals around her who have an idea what she is, have no idea what she can do. And of course, somebody wants to use her for their own ends. To a certain extent, something along those lines happens every year of her time at Covenant, but ohhhh, the ways, twists, turns and people involved! Each book was wonderful, and I can't wait to dive into the next one. These books are in a college setting, so their is drinking, sex (non-descriptive), no swearing, but vulgar sarcasm abounds.

If you are looking for the next classic, this is the wrong books for you. If you are looking for a fun, entertaining story, with characters you will love, hate and love to hate this is it! Plus a whole group of new vampire, witches, werewolves among others to get to know. Also a good way to remember your college days, the friendships, dramas and growing up. Can't wait to read about them all as adults.

Entertaining!

I read the entire series from start to finish. The main character was immature, not very likeable, and generally someone I would avoid. I liked the supporting cast of characters and the supernaturals represented in the story. The author has talent with plenty of creativity, good pacing, but got a little monotonous and predictable by the last book!

This book is about Zoe, a really annoying girl with no fear and a smart mouth that enters covenant college, a place that for some reason has monsters like vampires and werewolves around. She is recruited by a monster Hunter association after she is attacked, but she doesn't enter because she finds out that not all monsters are bad. All thru the five books she has to deal with several hardships:
seeing ghosts, sphinxes killing students, fighting with her ex (a werewolf that is new to being one) and his pack, getting almost killed by two of her roommates, dealing with a monster Hunter weirdo, etc.

The books are quite fun, what I dislike the most was the beginning, the characters were super bitchy and superficial, I didn't know if I wanted to read it all but at the end the plot for interesting and you get used to The main character bitchiness.

the stories were fun and I would totally recommend this five books just because Alric, Paris and kelsie were the best boyfriend/bffs ever even though Zoe did not deserved them

This was addictive.

Overall this series was a winner. I enjoyed the characters, and the friendships that were made, and lost, during these college years. The ongoing insidious subplot took a while to get going, but once it kicked off, it had me hooked. Aric and Zoe were so well matched. Not only were there immediate sparks flying, but throughout their ups and downs - and by downs I mean heart crushing lows - you never doubted that they didn’t love each other... well, not really.

The secondary characters like Paris were amazing. I won’t go into them all because there should be some surprises when you read this. Set aside a day, or two, and binge read the omnibus to get the best bang for your buck.

Only criticism I have is that some of the characters are a little cliche, and that I felt a little ripped off at how the big final confrontation went. Still, I had a great time reading this.

I honestly don't know how many words can express my feelings about these books and this author. I downloaded all these 5 books on audiobook and when I saw it was 36 hours I was dubious about it. I started on 26 March 2021 and I can quite happily say that every night and every opportunity I have had, I have listened and got completely hooked on the books, the plots and the characters!!! As soon as I started to get engrossed in this, I started researching and found out there was another trilogy (25 hours) which continues when they leave college. That was downloaded as well. All in all there is over 61 hours of fantastic writing from an extremely talented author. I LOVED EVERY SINGLE PART OF IT. There were not any moments of the plot dragging, I didn't get bored once and that is astonishing when you think of 61 hours!!! Do not hesitate for one second to read/listen to these books. They deliver on every single level.

This complete series collection is everything that you could want it to be. Zoe learns that she isn't completely human during her first year at Covenant College. With not being completely human she continues to find out that someone is after her wanting her power. Zoe thinks that she can trust her friends and people from her past, whic turns out to not be true and it comes back to bite her. Zoe becomes best friends with Paris, a witch, Kelsey, and Rafael who are always there for her.

I really enjoyed getting to know Zoe and watch her fall for Aric. This is the beginning of her life with Aric and as a mage and is a definite must read to continue on their journey. Zoe is strong, whitty, bossy, mouthy, and bitchy. She is an extremely strong character and takes everything anyone can throw at her and saves herself and her friends. Love, love, love!!!

Medio inmadura Zoe.

The first part of the first book was so bad that I had to come back to GoodReads to find out why I bought the book and was interested in reading it. After reviewing everyone's comments about how bad the first part of the book was, I continued to read until it became interesting. I should have written down the page number so everyone could just jump to that part of the book to start reading. This series was a good fun read, but ridiculous situation overall which was part of the fun of the book. I can't give this more than a 3 however because it is not a very good book or series, nevertheless I am not sorry I read it. Some books I am sorry I read, and wonder why I ever finished them.

I found these stories completely involving and gripping, except for the first half of the first one. There the characters were simply really really annoying, and it wasn't until some supernatural stuff started happening that I began to enjoy it. The other reason for 4 stars is that it needed proofreading badly. There is a thank you at the end from the author for the people who stopped mistakes from slipping through - well, they didn't do a very good job because there are many, many mistakes in this set, including wrong names used at times, changes from past to present tense, as well as grammatical and spelling mistakes. So, needs more work.

I found the lead character very irritating, although this may because I am somewhat older than the target readership: possibly what she says and does may reflect what older teenager would like to do and say.
However, her interactions with the werewolves, vampires and others with magical powers in the course of her three year college career make for an interesting range of problems with exciting denouements. If you can ignore the teenage angst (as an English male, I don't know whether the boyfriend problems are the author's invention or a weird American young female convention) the books are an enjoyable read.

A good series. This series takes Zoe Lake through her college years. From a clueless freshman to a worldly senior. And that's just the school-related side. She also learns to traverse the paranormal side right along with classes through the introduction of werewolves, vampires, witches, ghosts, and a sphynx. Did I forget to mention the anti-monster academy? Yeah, her running nemesis, Professor Blake is the head of that group. Worth the time.

Action-packed. Easy-to-read. Entertaining. Funny. Haunting. Romantic. Scary. Tear-jerker. Tragic. Twisted. Unpredictable. Whimsical. Wonderful characters.

If you like being on the edge of your seat, College partying, secrets, magic, and the not-completely-human creatures, you’ll like this series. Oh! And also, you MUST LOVE/LIKE snarky and stubborn people because these books are full of both.
Once you make it through all of these reads, if you find you want more and especially more of Zoe and Aric, you’ll want to read Living Covenant, The Complete Trilogy.
Great books! I’m on page 53 of Zoe and Aric’s life together after college (Living Covenant) and I’m already questioning what is going to happen next?!

Must admit that although these books, which bye the way are full stories individually as well as leaders into the next one, are not in my normal genre. They were entertaining, exciting, well written and thoroughly enjoyable and I have spent 3days listening to the full combination . In truth they are worth every penny I spent and I enjoyed them so much I have bought the next three books with these characters as leads.

Sookie Stackhouse goes to college

When I got this 5 bok boxed set, I truly expected to stop after the second book or so for a break. Instead I read it straight through without stopping. Joe Lake has all the snark and adventurous personality one could ask for.

Just like the Sookie Stackhouse books, I simply couldn't put them down, but Zoe is kind of like Sookie on steroids. Fascinating characters and spell binding storyline kept me engaged all the way. Loved it.

Beauty and the monsters!

An unbelievable series! Cannot believe it took me so long to read but it was worth it.

All of the supernatural beings in this series makes it worth the read. Zoe Lake arrives at college and life is never the same again.

It is a must read if you are into vampires, witches, werewolves, and other supernaturals plus all the people that try to take them down.

Awesome!

I seriously need to thank the ladies who recommended this series to me! It was absolutely awesome! I loved Zoe and Paris. Their friendship was true to form in my opinion. Zoe and Aric? How cute.
It was a supernatural read without it being overly supernatural, which I was surprisingly okay with.
If you've read any of Amanda M Lee's books then you will not be disappointed in Covenant College.

Is this the future of novels?

Disclaimer; I like snark. I happen to be a practitioner of the fine art of sarcasm. This wasn't snark....it's entitled whining.
This being said, there was nothing in what I read redeemable about these characters. I got 20 chapters in and I just wanted them all to get a raging case of Heroes then get hit by a freak storm of heavy books.....good books for the irony. Books with likeable characters.

I'm not a big fan of vampire or werewolf books, and also not a big fan of young adult stories. I also prefer to not have a lot of characters to try to keep track of. But this was in fact well written, kept me interested and continuing to read it, and glad that I had the entire series. I was surprised to enjoy it as much as I did. It definitely was a book I'd recommend. I look forward to reading more by this author!

The plot is good and the writing is fine. But a lot of the characters are unrealistic, stereotyped, and/or unlikeable. Several characters seem to have no other personality trait than being as obnoxious to the main character as possible.
There's also a lot of misogynistic remarks and attitudes tossed around. Listened to the audiobook and the narration was good, and overall I managed to enjoy the story.
