The idea of turning a classic 80's movie into a children's picture book is such a brilliantly simple but effective idea.
Admittedly I brought this for myself, but certainly had fun reading it to my daughter.

I'm sure prior knowledge of the movie helps, but I was quite impressed with how much was included in the small page count available.

The illustrations are so good!
Seeing these well loved characters along with the DeLorean in this style seemed to fit perfectly.

Totally written for parents of my generation, and I don’t even care. It’s adorable, and I read it to my 6-year old son and now we are going to watch the movie. Go get it or Darth Vader is going to come down from the planet Vulcan and melt your brain.

Given that this book is based on one of my all-time favorite movies (if not my all-time favorite), I would have been shocked if I didn't enjoy it. And I did thoroughly enjoy it. I thought the story was compressed well for a kids book, and the illustrations were very well done. I'm looking forward to reading the other books by the author (particularly E.T.).

My kids (ages 4 and 7), on the other hand, were not as impressed with it (which I'll be honest, makes me feel like I've failed as a father...). They sat through it once, but have shown no interest in reading it again. Maybe once they've watched the movie they'll have a better appreciation for the book. One can only hope, because they are missing out.

One of those "great for parents, not so great for kids" sorts of books. A cute concept to take nostalgic, classic 80s movies and turn them into books. Kids who've seen Back to the Future would probably enjoy the story as well, if they liked the movie. But purely as a children's book, it's not the best.

Let’s all be honest with ourselves.. we parents bought this for ourselves. And since it got my 7 and 5 year old to watch the movies it’s an automatic 5 stars right there! It’s a great children’s book that goes along with the movie with fantastic illustrations!

Cet album s'adresse certainement aux nostalgiques. Est-ce qu'un enfant qui n'a jamais vu le film comprendra la trame narrative? Je ne suis pas certain.

Back to the Future is my favorite movie. Knowing this, one of my friend bought this for my son on his first birthday. I immediately read it to him. It really is great. There are some changes from the movie. In a kid's book, you obviously can't include Libyan terrorists, incest, and an attempted rape scene. But overall, they do a nice job condensing the movie into a short children's book. I loved reading it, adding lines from the movie that didn't make it into the book. If you like Back to the Future, you should be pleased with this version. I look forward to checking out the Home Alone version and I definitely wouldn't mind if they made a book for Back to the Future II and III.

Ha! This children’s book is just like I remembered the movie to be, only in a condensed form. What a fun book!

Marty McFly talks about his home life and about his best friend, Doc. He discusses the time machine, how he test-drove it and ended up in 1955. Whoops! With no plutonium (not invented yet), Marty had to find his way back home by looking for a younger version of his friend Doc, and convincing him that he needed help getting back home to 1985. It’s a good thing that Marty remembered that lightening was going to strike the clock tower soon, for that would come in handy. Doc could rig up something using that electricity to get Marty back to the future.

Marty had been in 1955 only a short time but he was causing quite a stir. He now had problems that he needed to address with his parents, who were now teenagers and if he couldn’t get that back to normal, his future would be wiped out.

It’s a blast from the past with this book as Back to the Future is presented in this Pop Classic book. Kim Smith does it again with her outstanding illustrations that will definitely grab your attention. With vivid colors and stunning details, these illustrations will leave a smile on your face. It’s another wonderful book from Pop Classics.

Cute picture book based on the movie. I wonder if kids will like it if they are not familiar with the movie.

Un libro precioso. Las ilustraciones, a todo color, están geniales, rescatan las escenas más recordadas de la popular película. Recomendado para niños y niñas y también para nostálgicos coleccionistas.

Flipped through while it was on the Processing Cart at my library.

It was actually really cute, for what it is! I'd heard about this book, of course, and was wondering how the author would handle the more "mature" and/or scary scenes from the film, such as Doc getting shot, terrorists, George spying on Lorraine changing, and that whole car scene between Marty and Lorraine (underage drinking, smoking, making out)... Not exactly kid-friendly material. Especially today when people are so damn sensitive about everything. The author got around these problem areas by skipping them altogether while downplaying other parts (Biff bullying George, the fact that Marty has a girlfriend). The whole thing is very cutesy, but does stay true to the basic core of the story...in the most basic way.

A better choice to introduce a kid to this story is let watch the damn movie. Despite all the potential 'issues' strict parents could find with it, the film is really quite quaint compared to what their kids have already seen online (or by watching the news).

Holy cow - there is a picture book version of one of my favorite movies of all time?!!

Yes, I need a copy of this for myself. But I will be content with a library copy for now.

The adaptation is pitch-perfect. I could definitely see myself reading this book in a Storytime (gotta think of an appropriate theme). The rhythm of the telling is great and it's very kid-friendly in the way it explains the conflict and the plot. Looking at it now, BTTF kind of has a complicated story, which makes the movie even more incredible that it is so easy to follow. Telling the story in this picture book format could have been a disaster, but this version did it very well. The illustrations were great too. Kim Smith got all the key scenes, even has Marty dancing on stage at the dance doing "Johnny B. Goode."

A++++,Top marks, five stars, two thumbs up. A must for anyone who loves the Back to the Future trilogy.

This book is definitely aimed at children. I was sad to see it wasn't like the Die Hard book as I so wanted the line "When this baby hits 88 miles per hour, you're going to see some serious shit." Alas, it was not to be, therefore, a star had to be taken away.

The artwork is cute, the story hits the main part of the movie (Though they don't really go into how creepy Marty's mom was being about wanting to date him..again, children's book!) nor do they really flush out why Marty went to the past (aka the terrorists shooting at the Doc) or that he wanted to save the Doc too.

If you're wanting to introduce a child to the BTTF series, this book is a good way to do it. It's cute, it hits the points it needs to, and leaves room for adult to go, "Now, you wanna know the WHOLE story?"

A great adaptation of a great movie. I'm a little surprised that the Marty/Lorraine/George triangle sub-plot was retained, but the whole thing was streamlined pretty well - the only thing that was really cut out was the bits with the Libyans. And the skateboarding, I suppose. One odd bit is that from the art Marty looks to be about ten, but I expect this was done to help make the story relatable to younger sorts who are encountering the story for the first time (no doubt at the behest of parents or other older relatives, such as uncles). It still works well with the rest of the art, and truth be told some of little Marty's expressions at things like George's book are quite hilarious.

I received this book for free via Goodreads First Reads.

Nostalgia can be what other used to be. I like the concept of these books. Simplify a movie aonkids can have a taster of the plot while not seeing some of the more questionable age related scenes.

Adults will enjoy reading these to their children and will probably embellish something on every page. Children will enjoy the cartoonish illustrations and the easy to follow story.

I actually would like to see an embellished version of this idea for adults. Keep the format but add a lot more to it.

I loved this book! I am happy to see that Marty, George, Doc and the whole gang are coming from the past and making it #backtothefuture for newer generations to absorb. It is an excellent illustrated children’s book that introduces children to the story of Back to the Future. This book is true to the original film production from plot, to characters to humor. Fun, colorful and heart-warming, this is a wonderful gift to give to any child, 80’s born baby, nostalgic lover or Back to the Future fan. I highly recommend. To the delorean! 5 stars

"Back to the Future" by Jason Rekulak is a great read for children in preschool to first grade. This book is very similar to the movie, just broken down to simpler form for children to understand. I've loved this movie growing up, so I'd love to introduce this book to my students. It's a fun way to read a science fiction book because it's based in fantasy land. The illustrations are really kid friendly and the language is kid friendly as well. I would read this book to my students for fun or apart of science time.

Myself, my son, and my daughter all read this yesterday. My daughter and I thought 3 stars -we enjoyed it, but were not blown away. However my son loved it and wanted to give it 5 out of 5, so we have settled to a slightly generous aggregate four. For a 9 year old boy then this was a grand story which he loved, for a 10 year old girl, and myself, a little to simple. We all agreed it was nicely illustrated.
