Elizabeth Wakefield and her friends are walking on the beach one stormy afternoon when they witness a terrible surfing accident. Denny Jacobson is drowning! Elizabeth dives into the water and saves him.
Now Elizabeth is a hero. Her picture's in the newspaper, and Denny showers her with gifts and attention. But Janet Howell, president of the Unicorns, is mad!
She's got a big crush on Denny and is determined to make Elizabeth's life miserable.
Elizabeth decides being a hero stinks. How can she possibly get Denny—and now Janet—to leave her alone? Finally she and Jessica cook up a brilliant plan to get rid of them both, but it might mean putting Elizabeth in danger!
Francine Paula Pascal was an American author best known for her Sweet Valley series of young adult novels. Sweet Valley High, the backbone of the collection, was made into a television series, which led to several spin-offs, including The Unicorn Club and Sweet Valley University. Although most of these books were published in the 1980s and 1990s, they remained so popular that several titles were re-released decades later.
I'm jumping forward quite a bit in the series due to library availability.
I actually laughed out loud during two parts in this book. The first was when Liz actually says, "You know me, perfect in every way!" (groan) and the second was, "But who would try to mug me in Sweet Valley?" (Are you kidding? This is the most dangerous city in America, with psycho doppelgangers at every corner!)
Elizabeth was always off being the hero! I don't remember this one so well; my clearest memory is actually of Denny being dead in A Christmas Without Elizabeth, because Liz was not there to save him!
