One-Eyed Mack #2

Crown Oklahoma

Rate this book
When Jim Lehrer turned his hand to writing fiction, the results were praised by reviewers from coast to coast. Now available in paperback, this series has "the most endearing cast of characters since the days of Damon Runyon" (The Denver Post). The hero is "One-Eyed Mack, " the lieutenant governor of Oklahoma, a likeable and surprisingly insightful politico. Lehrer deftly mixes fact and fiction to create stories so bizarre, readers swear it must be fact.

Book 2 in this series has Mack and his cohorts on another goofy escapade!! This time it's to complete the state capitol with its dome!! This book was written in 1989 and it wasn't until 2002 that it became reality!! It is already cracked and the whole building needs 245 M in repairs!! After day in and day out of politics this satire on the whole system of government is a breath of fresh air!! My other breath of fresh air today was to walk in the Women's Solidarity March in Sarasota - Stephen King spoke there in all his gory, excuse me, I meant glory!!

I was absolutely captivated by this book when I first read it. At the time, I was living in Oklahoma City and working in and around the Capitol area. Perhaps that tie-in added interest. Tried again recently and couldn't make it through, so I'm rating it based on my earlier impression.
