Francine Paula Pascal was an American author best known for her Sweet Valley series of young adult novels. Sweet Valley High, the backbone of the collection, was made into a television series, which led to several spin-offs, including The Unicorn Club and Sweet Valley University. Although most of these books were published in the 1980s and 1990s, they remained so popular that several titles were re-released decades later.
This series is not only enjoyable and occasionally funny, but also full of life lessons. From sneaking out to concerts to secretly dating older boys to posing as the other twin, these best friends learn their lessons the hard way. But, they become closer along the way. Plus, these books correct many misconceptions people have about twins.
One of my favorite book series as a kid. I also read some Sweet Valley High, but mostly read the Twins series. I favored Elizabeth, the studious quieter one and kind of hated Jessica a bit. Gotta go dig these out of the closet at my mom's house to reminisce (and maaaaybe re-read for kicks)!
These books really appealed to the girls in my generation when we were about 10 - 12 years old. Lots of drama and jealousy, friendship, betrayal, boys, crushes and sometimes serious tragedies. All the things that pre-teen girls worry about, and enthuse over. These books had a ton of juicy details that most girls enjoyed reading.
