Growing up in trailer trash hell, the carnival was my only happy memory as a child. I held onto the magic of that memory until I could finally escape. And like Alice down the rabbit hole, I entered a world beyond my wildest dreams. A world with a shiny, colorful exterior, but filled with rot and corruption underneath.
But no matter what these people put me through, I can’t go back to my life before.
The man with the biggest secret is the only one I can trust. He’s dangerous, but he’s safety to me. He’s broken, but he put me back together. I’ll keep his secret. My heart hopes he’ll keep me. But in a hall of mirrors, how do you know what’s real or an illusion?
Every grueling night onstage is building up to a final show: The Wolf Man. Is he real or a hoax? Why do I feel such a pull to find out his truth?
Care to join me on this ride? Step right up.
**Harem of Freaks is a slow-build reverse harem series. The heroine will add to her harem and build multiple relationships as the series continues.**
3 stars Ummm..... what? I don’t understand anything that happened in this book. This was like a dump pile of ideas. The author had so many ideas and shoved them all in this book. A lot of it was just not necessary. It had a lot going for it, it had the carnival aspect which is not super common, it had a relatively interesting main character, and a lot of potential. I really don’t think it needed the paranormal werewolf thing in it to.
What I can definitely say is that I really enjoyed this series. True, it's only a pizza-book (you know the type, yummy, nice, fast, perfect for the moment, but nothing too complicated).
But!
It had really cool characters and a fun story.
This book was a bit annoying because well, the MC doesn't act her age and is a bit of an idiot. Also, some things don't make sense and they end up being annoying. But it's fast and well-written, so it deserves the 3 stars.
Well done, Ms Author! Good writing, you made me want to see the next one!
This book is well.written, the story flows and the two main characters are sympathetic and engaging. If not for a small scene where our heroine is molested by her employer and then later some love scenes between the two leads i would liken this book to a children's book. It has that sort of simplicity and naivety about it. There is also a shifter family being kept in cages so they can be exhibited to the circus customers and they suffer some abuse, I get the feeling they my feature more in upcoming books. But Melody and Connor are enough to carry this book, kudos to the author for making Connor a double amputee and showing him as a fully functioning person. I will be interested to see where the story goes next, the only thing that gives me qualms.is Melodys age this is a reverse harem series and Melody is only just past eighteen (by a few days) and an innocent so we will have to see how the author handles this issue, I do wish she was just a bit older though..................
Ok, umm.. wow!! Loved this book so very much. That dark carnival/circus vibe was strong and I was loving it. Connor was that perfect mix of rough and soft. Melody starts out small and meek, but we get a hint of the stronger woman I think she will become.
The book is mostly in Melody's POV but there are a few chapters in Connor's. There is one time while in Connor's POV where the author says (quote may not be exact.) "I don't know if she is tougher or stupider than I originally thought." Stupider??? STUPIDER!!! I see a lot of typos and grammar mistakes with these Indi-published authors. It happens when they don't have a full publishing team behind them. Most of the time I just shrug and move on. But that one had me obsessing for a while.
I stayed up late to finish this book. That is not as normal for me as you may think. So you know I was totally into this one, and I started some of book 2 before going to bed last night. I am expecting great things from this series. Even with minimum paranormal in this book, it was still a great read and that to me is a sign of a gripping book. Can't wait to see where it leads and what the other men are like in the slow-building RH.
This was a pretty fast paced read that set the stage for the coming series. Heroine Melody escapes a bad home life and literally runs to the circus for refuge as it holds the happiest memory in her life. Melody doesn’t have a trade so to speak so she gets to try out a few skill sets, some more dangerous than others. While most of the characters are minor and barely likable she does strike up a quick & flirty relationship with outcast and grump Connor. Connor AKA Stilts is a wounded vet whose just been passing time as an act in the show. While they don’t go all the way things do move fairly fast between them considering they’re literal strangers. It’s obvious Connor will be one of her love interests and future harem member, but so far we only have the one. By the end the two betray the Show and conduct a daring rescue which has them on the run. I can’t wait to see what’s up next for them and who else will be added to her harem. I’d also like to know if the paranormal/supernatural hints were false flags or perhaps a sneak peek at what’s to come!
4.5 stars. So far so good. This was short and not all that much has happened yet, but I’m intrigued for sure.
We’ve only met the one guy so far(well, and possibly another, but that’s not in the cards yet if it’s even gonna be a thing in the future like I think), and since she’s still feeling Icked out about a guy creepin on her, they haven’t done much with each other. Opting to take it slow and build their trust.
I’m excited to see where this all goes. I like the FMC, and I like Connor. Hopefully we meet a new one in this next book and start getting deeper into things.
3.5 Idk if I read this really fast because it's short or if I did because it was really entertaining 🙇🏽
As I said, the book is short, so there isn't much to complain or sing praises about. I liked the characters and the setting, and the writing was really fast paced and engaging enough. I guess the only pseudo-complaint I can make is that this felt more like a prologue than a novel/novella. Even more of a rough draft, if I'm being honest. And there's a few ideas that don't seem like they will mesh well in the future, but I'm excited to see them play out nonetheless!!
Not continuing the series. The writing is good but too many plot elements I dislike. 18 year old woman-child with a 25 year old man. PTSD used as a plot device. All the other women hate her…pass, I’m just not in the mood to put up with all the little annoying stuff that bothered me.
It's NOT reverse harem, at least in this book, despite the several tags saying it is. The "Harem of Freaks" title is misleading. There is only one romantic interest. Throughout 100% of this book, only one.
It's BARELY even paranormal.
Overall: Was an ok book. Easy and fast read. Flowed well. I liked the hero and heroine. The paranormal aspect could have been utilized a little more, but maybe that's in book 2? Only one way to find out.
Good story about a young 18 year old h who escaped from her awful home life and joined the circus. The circus might have sounded like fun, but of course it wasn't much safer for her. She's shown some kindness by a reticent circus performer, who protected her from some freaky people. The writing was good, the story flowed well and lured me into wanting to know more about these characters.
Enjoyable, but definitely setting up for the next book. I wanted more plot about the werewolf and more spice, but other than that I thought it was a decent read.
Fue de esos libros que lo empecé a leer porque me atrajo la portada y que ni siquiera leí la sinopsis. Está entretenido, es muy probable que sí lea la continuación
Blurb: Who knew cages and freaks would set me free?
Growing up in trailer trash hell, the carnival was my only happy memory as a child. I held onto the magic of that memory until I could finally escape. For me this book was a pretty quick read, but still very good. There's was plenty of world building and feeling that the characters had so many layers that we hadn't seen them all yet. This does appear to be a slow burn and I can't wait to see how this author incorporates the reverse harem aspect. I'm just hoping it's incorporated without any crazy relationship drama. I did love how just in this first book it seems she was showing how people can have so many sides good and bad and no one's perfect. As well as not judging a book by its cover like with stilts whose very hot and brooch yet gentlemanly with some interesting issues of his own. And while the end of this book does leave us with a few questions nothing really dire was left with us to make it feel like a cliff hanger. This was a very good story with a happy for now, would recommend.
First book in series and it grabbed my attention quickly. Love Conner and Mel. Can’t wait to see who else comes o to their lives and wonder if the mystery of the wolves will be solved! Slow burn.
okay i can feel it in my bones this is going to be a good one. seems slow burn rh where they slowly introduce the men i havent read those in awhile. but im already so curious about the wolfman and his little tater tots
I love any carnival themed books so dived right into this story without even reading the blurb.
Mel is an 18 year old runaway, escaping a bad home life and ends up joining a travelling carnival only to discover it is not the magical, alluring world she imagined as a child.
While there is mention of the wolf man and his family, he doesn't play a big part in book one. There is also only one love interest so far and that relationship is pretty tame. Definitely not the paranormal reverse harem story I was expecting but enjoyable nonetheless. I can't wait to see where the story goes in book two.
Freak Show is the first book within the Harem of Freaks series. For the most part, it was an okay book.
In this, you will meet Melody and Connor. They definitely fall for each other very quickly which was okay. Out of the two, Connor was way more interesting. As for Melody, she just seems way too young and I'm not sure how I truly feel about her right now. The only good thing is it's a harem book. So, I'm way more excited to see who will come into the family at the moment. Those two had some cute moments though.
As for the circus, kind of interesting but not much truly happened. Other than that dumb girl drama over people who should be single for the rest of their lives. Hopefully it gets more exciting throughout the series.
Both better and worse than I thought. The protagonist (Melody) was more interesting than I imagined and I liked the storyline between her and Conor. However, I expected it to be more supernatural things like some sort of scary spooky stuff that haunted the circus. Also I felt like a lot of things got brought up and didn't get fully discovered throughout the book. Although, this is a series so there is much potential.
This is a great story, I fell in love with it straight away. The characters are very real, each has their own problems and disabilities but are making the best of what they can. I really enjoyed this book and am looking forward to reading the next book in the series
This is such a good series! I literally can’t wait to start book two. This is such a new concept to me. A glimpse into the world of the carni. Perfection in a man that is so perfectly flawed.
*I received a free copy of this book which I voluntarily chose to write an honest review for.
So I fell in love with this author during the Holy Trinity series and could not wait to see what would happen in this new series. I was so not disappointed!! It is great. We get introduced to a strange world behind the scenes as we meet Melody who runs away from a horrid home life at 18 in an effort to have a better life only to join a traveling carnival. There she meets Stilts the anti-social man who ends up becoming so much more. Well written, incredible world building, and character you can relate to. I am so looking forward to book two! I highly recommend it to fans of the genre. I really liked it so I give it 4/5 stars.
