Resurrection: A Symbol of Hope

Rate this book
Geering considers what has been said in support of traditional views, and why some scholars fail to find them convincing. He discusses ancient myths of the "dying and rising god"; of resurrection as the hope for national renewal; and how belief in some form of life after death is universal. For Geering, resurrection is a hope for the world in which we live, a hope for the meaning of life, and a hope that when our conscious existence is ended, the historical life we have lived may be validated as being of some value for whatever the eternal Kingdom is.

Thorough study of Resurrection: A Symbol of Hope. Lloyd Geering is one of my favorite scholars. He looked at the different meanings of resurrection, the history of resurrection and how it provides hope to live life to the fullest. Hope gives us the opportunity to live a life that is not self-centered paying attention to the needs of other individuals and the community as Jesus did even to death on the cross. I found this book to be very insightful and stimulating. Always enjoy a Lloyd Geering read.
