This is a fairly complete thumbnail biography of Hemingway, touching the high points without fleshing anything out too much. The true beauty of the book is in the photographs. The author, a friend of the family, apparently had unrestricted access to Hemingway's photo collection and has included a lot of them in his book. They're all here, Hemingway, his kids, all of his wives, even some of his admirers. The book is too big to tote around with you but definitely worth reading if you're a Hemingway fan.

I'm being all artsy-fartsy again, INSISTING that you see what my book looks like. http://www.downtownbooksonline.com/im... But it's a book that means everything to me. How can I explain why? How can we explain the effect certain books have at certain times in our lives? All I know is, this (and Anne Morrow Lindbergh) got me through the loneliest, most miserable summer of my life (long enough ago that I can smile about it now :) Dozens and dozens of full-page black-and-white photos from Hemingway's personal collection, with a text that gives us as deft and direct a glimpse of the man as any close family member could dare to.
