Permanent part-timer, Yui, discovers a worn-out man fallen on the street. Unable to leave the strangely charming Toshiki alone, Yui helps him back home and then accepts Toshiki while being manipulated by him. However, when Yui gets up in the morning, he finds himself locked in and unable to leave. “Confinement is my hobby,” says a smiling Toshiki. Is this confinement, or is it … Their sensitive love flickers in the space between the normal and abnormal!
What I expected: A dark, psychological BL story along the lines of Killing Stalking.
What I got: A low-key vignette about two broken people learning to live together.
This isn't BL, or even shounen-ai really, although you can definitely interpret it that way. It's a simple, understated look at two broken men with their own issues, just trying to get by in this world. While I was a bit disappointed that it wasn't what I expected, I ended up enjoying it for what it was.
This isn't your romance manga, but more on the lines of two sad people finding comfort (?) in one another. Yui's character made me feel so sad, there's something so melancholic about his story. Overall the story was okayish, even though the premise was around Stockholm syndrome
This is such an underrated gem, it has 神率 of 52.7% on Chil-Chil! 5⭐️
Ymz sensei is one of my fav BL manga artists, I first heard of her from the inside cover of Etsuko sensei’s Last Friday, as they are from the same publisher.
Her drawing style is quite distinctive, using cute characters to tell bitter-sweet adult stories. Not everybody will appreciate her work as it’s quite niche and artsy.
This is basically a very healing story about two broken young guys, finding comfort by co-living with each other, and the companionship slowly developed into dependency.
According to the website the dark hair unemployed guy is seme and light hair writer is uke. Both of them had sad memories from the past, with abandonment issues.
The uke provided seme a comfortable shelter, cooked and cleaned for him, in exchange for someone to talk to. Their relationship is by free will, one can come and go at any time, the door is not locked up. E.g. one of the high school girl who ran away from home only stayed for one night and then just left.
The two guys didn’t even hold hands or kiss until the end, it’s very pure and innocent.
this was such a weird read and I think it was too short for what it was trying to accomplish. It's about Yui, who is constantly struggling financially. Always working part time jobs to barely make enough. One day on his way home from work he finds a guy passed out on the street. Yui kindly helps the man get home and even spends the night, but the next morning he finds the door locked and he's unable to leave. Toshiki is a bit weird and lures people to his home in order to confine them. But he only confines them with consent. If those he tries to confine wish to leave, they can. He offers Yui a place to stay and meals with the condition that he can never leave. Yui takes him up on the offer.
I really don't know how to feel about this. I don't think it goes into Yui and Toshiki's backstory or develops them enough as characters to make them work. You kind of learn about Toshiki's motivations and why he is the way is, but it's not enough. I think I'm being a little generous with the 3 stars because I don't think this was very good, but it wasn't terrible either. It just needed more expansion on the characters and their motivations and the romance between them. There was just too much going on and not enough time to explore it.
This wasn’t at all what I was expecting. Although I liked Yui, this felt a bit amateurish and unfinished. Almost like something I might have read for free online. It would have been nice to have seen this better fleshed out. I’m also still not entirely clear if their relationship ends up platonic at the end or not.
I can’t view this as anything more than a semi-romance based around Stockholm Syndrome, but it wasn’t bad. I just wish there had been a bit more depth to it. The art was gorgeous, though.
