Simon Beecroft is the New York Times bestselling author of LEGO Star Wars: The Visual Dictionary as well as many other Star Wars titles for children, including Star Wars The Clone Wars: Watch Out For Jabba the Hutt, Star Wars: Luke Skywalker’s Amazing Story, and Star Wars: Beware the Dark Side. Any Star Wars book is extremely popular, but this particular one leaves a reader desiring more. Because it is a leveled reader the sentences are simple and the vocabulary is limited. While the story attempts to create drama and excitement it falls flat with the sentence structure and vocabulary choices. It does do a nice job of explaining the characters to the reader and even includes some side bars with added information such as definitions of Star Wars items. The index at the back is a nice addition to an early reader. I'm sure kids will devour the series because it's Star Wars, it's just tough to make a lengthy Star Wars story as exciting at the originals with limited word choices.
Okay, second level reading book. There were quite a few of bigger words that were not as common. My 5 yr old liked it but had a harder time with some of the words. Not sure it was an adequate level 2. It could have just been that some of the difficult words were unusual names of sci fi characters.
An early reader version of the Clone Wars animated movie. This is a very brief version of the movie, covering the essentials and leaving space for more information. However since it's aimed at young readers, it thankfully leaves out some of the more violent moments although there are also plenty left in! Also some pretty difficult words for a stage 2 book. Added: we just Reread this book almost 7 months later and my daughter just read the whole thing without help. I still think there are some hard words for level 2 but I think it helps to know the story and the characters better!
If you're interested in Star Wars and you're a beginner reader, you'll enjoy this book. Based on the cartoon series, the reader will follow Anakin through an adventure based on the movie. A good book for beginner readers.
