Harry's War: The True Story of the Soldier Prince

Rate this book
On February 28, 2008, to great international surprise, the British Ministry of Defense released a statement acknowledging that Prince Harry—son of the late Princess Diana and third in line to the British throne—had secretly been deployed to Afghanistan. Subsequent reports revealed that the prince had killed up to thirty Taliban insurgents in directing at least three air strikes, and that he had helped Gurkha troops repel a ground attack of Taliban insurgents using a machine gun. On Februrary 29, Prince Harry was withdrawn from the country with distinction via a covert SAS deployment. This is the amazing story of the first British royal to serve his country in 25 years and his 10 heroic weeks of combat.

Begins with his parent' failed marriage, his school struggles, she dies, he hits a photog, appears in a German uniform, and eventually goes into the military. Eventually it is realized he would be a TARGET but eventually they come up with a plan. He spends weeks deployed until Matt Drudge locates a story in an Australian magazine and then it is over, he returns home. Gal pal, some swearing, color pix. Insightful.

This one wasn’t written too badly, and it was WAY better than ‘Megan’s story’ or whatever. Pretty interesting actually, but once again, the author assumed a lot of things, was writing as if he was best mates with Prince Harry, saying, ‘Prince Harry would’ve thought this’, ‘Prince Harry would’ve said that’.

I give it three stars because of typos and some factual errors but other then that it was an interesting page turner. It is neat to know what Harry did in Afghanistan and that he was really put in harms way. A lot of controversy centered around Harry's deployment as the book makes mention. I am very proud of Harry.

Great book thoroughly enjoyed reading it, charts his story from child through adolescence to coming of age and passing out of Sandhurst. Conveys the disappointment he felt at not being allowed to deploy with his regiment then having his tour cut short due to media leaks, then shows his true caring side as young man trying to help the injured that the government turn their backs on!
Great read thoroughly enjoyed and recommend.
