The Switch II

Rate this book
What happens when a young man takes a chance and asks the 'hot chick' in a club for her number, and she gives him a fake one? And what happens when he calls that number and he falls in love with the woman that does answer? Another great read following Cassidy’s ”The Switch”, but twenty-five years later. Angel and Donald have two children, Danni and Edward. Danni thinks herself to be a lesbian much to her mother, Angel’s, dismay because Angel wants grandchildren and 22-year-old Edward is just having a good time sleeping with a new woman each night, so no grandchildren in sight there.

This is a very funny book, laugh-out-loud funny. You are hooked within the first couple of pages and you have to pay attention because something very important is revealed near the beginning that comes into play at the very end.

Cassidy writes in colour—splashing the different hues and shades on the page creating his characters. This would make an excellent TV sitcom. Angel, the mother, wanting grandchildren; Donald, the father, loving his children and wanting what is best for them; Dannie the eldest, trying to find her way in the lesbian world, and Edward, meeting a woman and falling in love through texting.

Donald and Angel still have a very strong love life and you can just see the kids roll their eyes whenever mention of it is made. There is so much clever and snappy banter between all the four major characters and the one chapter of dialogue between Danni and Edward had tears rolling down my cheeks. I loved the teasing chit-chat. A few times I had to stop and think but immediately the author would be there writing in italics and answering my questions, which he so skillfully anticipated. There is much mystery going on in this story too, reminding me of the episode of “’Frasier” where Roz wins a weekend at a ski lodge and the characters keep walking into the wrong rooms. You really do not know who belongs where!

This book is well written with a believable yet comical subject. Cassidy’s writing style and word choice are casual yet slick. The tone is positive and happy. Everything works together to establish mood and meaning. This is a feel-good book with Angel getting the last laugh. It is a story that could go on forever. I loved this book. Thank you CJ Cassidy for making the Connor family real.
