Betty Lou, constantly teased because of her big feet, gets a chance to be a hero when the kids in the park become trapped in a snow drift, in this amusing picture book that celebrates generosity, friendship, and being different.
Betty Lou Blue is a book about a little girl who is self conscious about her big feet. She lets the bullies words get to her and allows them to tear down her confidence. But when the bullies need help, Betty Lou Blue decides to be the bigger person and help them out. I like this book because it teaches kids to be the bigger person and that just being a bully back makes you just as ugly as the bully.
Betty Lou Blue has really big feet. The kids tease her because of the size of her feet. She rises above their teasing and helps them in their time of need.
Genre: Contemporary Realistic Fiction because the characters are not real but this story could happen in real life.
Writing Traits: Ideas- This message this book sends is a good one. It teaches kids to be kind even when others are not. Sentence Fluency- The rhyming in this book helps the reader flow through the story.
Classroom ideas: This book would be a good one to use as an anti-bullying book. It could also show students to be proud of who they are and everyone is different and that is ok. Students could use this as a mentor writing text so see how you can use rhyming in a story and not just in a poem. It also shows that you can use dialog combined with rhyming as a writer.
This book is about a little girl with big feet that everyone makes fun of. even though she is super sweet she still gets bullied. This shows the students that you can not judge a person by his or hers features because they can be the sweetest person to ever meet

This is a wonderful story about a young girl who was different; she had huge feet. Children would tease and laugh at her. Her mom tells her to ignore them, but it is so hard for her. One day the children were stuck in some snow and she rescued them. Now everyone wanted to be her friend. This teaches children that whatever makes us stick out, makes us special. You don’t always have to try to fit it. This book is great for all ages.
It would be wrong for me to dismiss the anti-bullying message that is the subtext for Nancy Crocker's picture book about a young girl, whose oversized feet make her the target of ridicule. However, the meter of the narrative is too often contrived to fit a particular rhyme. Boris Kulikov's quirky illustrations are the highlight of this book, but they can't save the text from itself. I suppose other people will be more entertained by this book. I feel the resolution is too pat to deserve praise.
Betty Lou Blue is a little girl with enormous feet. Her mother reassures her that everyone is here for a purpose, but Betty Lou has a hard time believing her. She is bullied and friendless at school. But one day school lets early out on account of a snowstorm and all the children end up in trouble. Betty Lou has the opportunity to help those who have hurt her in the past. Finally she understand what her mother has been telling her all along.
Such a cute story about a little girl with big feet. She's bullied and teased by the other kids at school until one day they need her big feet to help them out. The story is done in a wonderful rhyming pattern and the illustrations are great. I thought this was a really adorable story. (Big feet folks, unite!).
"This is a great book. I love when she keeps the kids from falling in the snow, and she finally gets friends and they don't care anymore about her big feet" Bradie- Age 7 Mom: Great book. Makes me misty. We've owned it for years and have read it a dozen times.
