What happens when the rules we create for ourselves end up being the ones we most want to break? Between flying tequila bottles and auctioning off body shots, Allie McAllister knows how to work a crowd. When she isn't mixing drinks at The Guild, she devotes her spare time to teaching aspiring authorsnamely, male authorshow to make women melt with nothing more than a pen and paper. The Mistress of Seduction has only three rules for her students: 1) Six months is the limit; 2) When she speaks, they listen; 3) Never, under any circumstances, are her students allowed to fall in love with her. Her newest student has a lot to learn when it comes to putting his passion to paper, but there's nothing Allie craves more than a challenge. Criminal defense attorney Adam Carlton is well aware he doesn't have a creative bone in his body. Just the same, after taking a body shot off the most beautiful spitfire he's ever seen, he has to see Allie again. But how? Then it hits him. He'll write a book.
As the child of a military member, Monica Robinson spent most of her life moving from state to state. Though some of the places she went to were beautiful, it didn’t help when making friends. With a vivid imagination, she began creating worlds that kept her entertained for hours. All grown up—and no longer moving around—Monica still loves to write, but instead of describing far away worlds, she likes meddling in the love lives of her characters.
She lives in the Puget Sound area of Washington with her husband and two children.
This book was for our Back to School theme on Kindle smut. And this author definitely had a twist on the student/teacher relationship. Let me start out by saying this was a sweet tale. Yes it begins with a body shot in a bar full of horny men, but believe it or not, we get a story about a woman learning to trust again, and a man who realizes that sometimes you need to go to extreme measures for love. Like write a book.
We have quite a bit, of the inner dialogue..."He can't want me, She doesn't love me, blah blah blah."
We also have a bitch of an ex-girlfriend trying to squash any budding romance. It seemed like there could have been more to this story. I wanted to know what happened when Allie introduced her new man to her crappy family. I wanted to know why the ex-girlfriend really left the law firm. And really to get me so invested in these characters, well it tells me that the author did her job.
This was a great cast, and I am hoping that this book was a series starter because I would love to read the next chapter in their lives. There was a lot of unresolved goings on that just scream series to me.
I really enjoyed this. I wanted to smack the characters sometimes -- JUST TALK TO EACH OTHER!! But each of them thought there was a time frame for the relationship that the other was expecting, and neither wanted to cut the time short by expressing their feelings. Her reaction to his "lie" was a little bit over the top as well. It wasn't such a big lie! Plus, she'd just been told by his family how differently he was acting toward her. She knew she was special. I thought his "I'm sorry" gesture was sweet, but way too long in coming, lol. Thanksgiving to Christmas is an eternity in a new relationship! But despite these few things, I really liked the story. I liked Allie and Adam and I thought their relationship was really sweet. They had really steamy sex, which is always a plus. I loved that Allie made him do things out of his comfort zone, like actually eat at a restaurant for breakfast. And Adam made Allie feel again. A few others have said that how Erica was removed from the picture was a little to "easy" and I'd have to agree. Sure, she's gone, but it was very quick, and considering how badly she wanted Adam, she sure gave him up easily. Not that I minded. Bee-otch.
Ok, so maybe this is a 3.5-stars. I was extreemly tired all week so maybe I should have put off reading this for a while.
I enjoyed the storyline and characters but took me about 1/2 the book before I obtained that "obsessed to finish" feeling I always get. By the last 1/4th I was totally there and the time just flew by.
I trust if you are checking out what I think you have already checked this out and I'm feeling a bit lazy right now, so just let me say it's a nice romantica story and worth the read but I didn't like it so much as to add this to my re-read list.
