Captain Briar Rose is on a deadline. She has one week to deliver Grayson to Solon, the ferromancer behind so many of her problems. If she doesn’t arrive in time, Solon has promised to destroy her hometown. She’ll have to push hard to meet his arbitrary deadline, but it should be possible—if her cousin Andrew doesn’t get in the way.

Andrew has been Briar’s nemesis since they were children, but now that he’s working for Solon, Andrew has become an even bigger problem. His insistence on meeting at every toll office is a hinderance, especially when her boat becomes a target for sabotage. Briar doesn’t have time for a pretentious cousin or a damaged boat, but her troubles don’t stop there.

The clock is ticking for Grayson as well. His devolvement is accelerating at an alarming rate and nothing they try seems to slow it. As Grayson struggles to remain the man he is, Briar begins to believe that time is her true enemy. Perhaps Solon’s deadline wasn’t so arbitrary after all.

Becca Andre lives in southern Ohio with her husband, two children, and an elderly Jack Russell Terrier. A love of science and math (yes, she’s weird like that), led to a career as a chemist where she blows things up far more infrequently than you’d expect. Other interests include: chocolate, hard rock, and slaying things on the Xbox. She also finds writing about herself in third person a bit strange.

**I received an advanced reader copy in exchange for my review**

Like the previous books in the series, Corroded follows right behind the footsteps of Heart of Iron. The gang are headed back to Portsmouth in order to meet the deadline Solon has set for them or he will destroy their city and all the people in it. Not only that but Briar is becoming increasingly frustrated because she cannot figure out a way to save Grayson from complete devolvement.

Of course getting to Portsmouth isn't as smooth and easy as it sounds. Constantly having to stop and check in with Andrew at toll houses, mysterious incidents of sabotage that threaten a few lives sometimes and keeping Grayson from healing others but also keeping him from losing his temper as well.

It's a race to save humanity! It took a bit to get into at first because there's a bit more back story are parts and lots of Briar/Grayson back and forth over their dilemma. However, once it picked up, I was completely hooked. The plot thickens and man there's a prime example on one scene why blood family doesn't mean everything. I also really enjoyed trying to work out the ferra/Scourge puzzle alongside Briar and Perseus and learning more about Perseus in general (he's wickedly cool?). I also liked seeing even the individual crew member's life developments and relationships especially Eli and Molly.

After that ending, I cannot wait to see what happens next especially when Briar and company finally come face to face with Solon again. Will she be able to save Grayson and her hometown or will she have to choose one or the other? I guess we'll find out!

* I received a free copy in exchange for an honest review *

It has been a while since I read the previous book, so it took a little bit to reaquaint myself with what had happened previously, but after the first chapter I was pulled right back into the story. Briar is such a great main character, and the relationships she has with her crew is very endearing and rings true. I still love/hate the mystery behind Briar's past and how she will overcome all the obstacles set before her. As odd as this may sound considering the slow place of the canal trip, there is so much excitement and so much happens that this seems like a fast paced adventure.

Briar's resolve to save Grayson from fully devolving is admirable; she is constantly tested throughout the book, and even when she struggles her strength and determination are inspiring. The relationships and interactions between the crew are always entertaining and I found myself laughing at their antics quite a few times. There are no new enemies they encounter, but there are some surprising twists that kept the story even more interesting.

I'm excited to read the next installment to see if Briar is going to either save Grayson and the ferromancers or have to put her desires aside for the safety of humankind. I highly recommend reading this book, but make sure you read the previous books in the series. You won't be disappointed.

I loved this book and love the series!
Briar Rose has one week to get her canal boat down thru the canals to Portsmouth, to deliver Grayson and herself to Solon, or he will destroy her hometown.

Her cousin, Andrew, keeps harassing , and causing her trouble all the way, to keep her and her crew from arriving on time. Mishap after attack keeps happening to the boat, herself and her crew. At the same time, she is trying to keep Grayson from devolving further, and struggles with her love for him, while at the same time, she is trying to find a way to stop it, and not only save Grayson, but also Solon's son.
Her Uncle and the Scourge wants to train her, just to kill all the Ferromancers that are gathering in Portsmouth. She faces a big decision....will she be able to find a way to use her magic to save Grayson? Their budding love for each other? Or will she have to kill all Ferromancers like her Uncle says? The story is full of constant action, edge of your seat drama, fantasy, romance, danger; I couldn't put it down. I anxiously await Iron Souls 5.

This next installment of the Iron Souls series focuses greatly on the relationship between Briar and Grayson. Briar’s crew goes through countless struggles as they race home, and I felt much closer to them by the end. I particularly enjoyed the lighter moments between characters, and the darker, action filled scenes left me shaking with nerves! I would have enjoyed a bit more action, but I truly loved getting to know the characters (particularly Perseus) in the less tense scenes. Once again, I closed the book wishing for more! I’m incredibly anxious to see what Briar does next, and without giving spoilers, I’ll simply say that you’ll be just as hooked.

I was lucky enough to receive this book in exchange for an honest review, and it has definitely earned a full 5 stars. As of now, I believe this may be my favorite novel in the series!

As an extra tidbit, check out the song “Touch” by Sleeping At Last. It played while I was reading the book and has essentially become my theme song for Grayson.

I loooved the book! It maintains the level of the previous books and it makes for a wonderful journey (wink, wink) . I am in awe with the ability of the writer to hook you up and make you care about the characters. There are many compliments that I can say about the book but the characters are one of its strongests aspects. All of them are unique, with their own quirks, and the interactions among them are sublime. Another thing that I love is the main mystery in the story, which advanced slowly in this book. I have to recognised that I hoped to discover more about it and got a little frustated, but I can wait a little longer to get to know everything about the "ferromancer ailment". I also wanted to see more progress in the relationship between the main characters, but I get why they are so reluctant. So, in a nutshell, if you liked the previous books you will love this one. And if you did not read the others, what are you waiting for?

This story just gets better and better

I love this series, especially for it's strong positive female protagonist. I have read the whole series and in true Becca Andre fashion this one does not disappoint, picking this up was like visiting with old friends. I can't wait to read the next in the series as I have so many burning questions. I love Briar as mentioned she is a great lead but there are so many interesting things lurking with the others on this adventure that I hope to find out more. If you have read anything else by the author you know her character development is top notch. I am hoping the next won't be the last in the series as I don't want to part ways with these great characters just yet.

I was provided an advance copy of this book for my honest review.

As the Iron Hearts continues in book 4, Becca Andre is back in form. The action and pace have picked up considerably as the characters become more complex. As Briar Rose wrestles with her new found magic, and her growing determination to save Grayson Drake, the clock is ticking down and Briar flounders by instinct to find and control her abilities. The cast histories are revealed and the dire need of a dying race change everyone’s bias from what they were taught, and what they see that they must change to survive an oncoming battle.
Each successive book in this series has deepened our relationships to the characters, and the action becomes relentless towards the series finale.
Highly recommended gas lamp adventure. Well written and highly entertaining.

OMG I swear these books just get better with each one. Absolutely loved this one. I can’t wait for the next to see how the story continues but in a lot of ways I’m dreading it coming to an end as I’ll miss reading them.

I’ve loved the developing characters and back stories on them. I hope we get to see some stories on Perseus and Kali as I’d love to know more of their history. I’d also love more adventures from Briar and Grayson and the rest of the crew.

Highly recommend reading the whole series of these books and being honest I recommend reading every Becca Andre book you can find. They are all brilliant and I look forward to reading more in the future.
