A new short story in the magical world of the Aubrey Arthur series! A 10 year-old boy goes missing, and his vanishing is tied to the disappearance of one of the rare magical books from Aubrey Arthur's library. Aubrey and her ragtag team of survivors and friends investigate, and soon find themselves deep in the woods, pursuing a desperate, half-dead magical creature, and trying to save a little boy from paying the ultimate price.
Russ Anderson can usually be found in the suburbs of Baltimore, where he lives with his wife, his daughter, two beagles, and a very old, very angry cat. When he's not working for the man, he enjoys bicycling, making up stories, and pie.
A well-written story that is more complicated than just kids defeat a monster. There is some moral ambiguity in the tale that shows nature and humans aren't just black and white. I thought it was a well developed story with lots of detail but enough action to keep readers interested. I would definitely like to read something more by this writer.
