Hybrid Heat #4

Under His Cover

Rate this book
Will two men, as different as can be, find love?

Jaesun Park isn’t a spy, not until the Protectors of the Pure, an organization bent on eradicating shifters from the world, blackmail and coerce him into using his job at The National Press to uncover and publish anti-shifter propaganda. He unwillingly travels north undercover, posing as one of the many campers taking advantage of the new shifter-run campground. The moment he arrives, he’s sure everyone is onto him, but he’s got to do his best to ignore his anxieties. His family needs him.

Wilder is a hybrid shifter content to watch those around him act like fools while they find their mates. If he ever (big if) found his mate, he wouldn’t overreact nearly as much as the other alphas with all their growling and possessiveness. That’s what he thinks until he literally runs into the man meant for him. It takes seconds for Wilder to realize that Jaesun is his and just as much time to realize Jaesun is hiding something that is putting him in danger. And anything that puts his mate in danger is unacceptable.

Except, those he would normally turn to won’t understand what Jaesun has had to do. They’ll lock him up before Wilder has a chance to tell them Jaesun is his mate. He can see that Jaesun is in way over his head, and Wilder is the only one who can dive in and save him. His kind, gentle mate quickly brings out the alpha in Wilder. No one, not his pack or the Protectors will lock up his mate. Before long, Wilder will realize why those other alphas acted so possessive and out of control.

Under His Cover is the fourth book in the Hybrid Heat series. It can be read as a standalone or as part of the series for maximum enjoyment. It features a delightful number of references to Korean dramas and kimchi while still containing those steamy moments that will make your toes curl!

With this book, Ms. Burrelli is 4 for 4 in this series. This series was the first I read by this author and with it and the others I have read she proves again and again that she is a master at the Mpreg genre.
Another truly fun and enjoyable read!

Oh man! Jaesun is giving Chuey a run for his money as my favorite character in this series! I just ADORED Jaesun. I loved his sweetness, I related to his anxiety and nervous habits, I loved that he stood up for himself rather than just give in to how his mother and ex treated him, and I absolutely loved him with Wilder. And hell yes to a Korean main character! (I'm Korean too, and I get asked "what are you" all the time LOL)

I think that this series is the author's strongest to date. This combined with the dragons series - and I LOVE how she has made it so it all connects. We are living in Kiki's world and it's a wonderful place to be! I loved the appearances from so many previous characters, all the brothers from the bear series, and I can't wait to get Fritz and Link's story.

Definitely recommend you start with this series in order, and I usually tell people to start back with her Bear series since so many characters overlap into this series. Highly recommended!

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

****I volunteer my honest opinion on this book that was freely given by the author****

I do love the Korean references in this book. My teenage daughters love K-pop right now and reading about a character that watches the same Korean dramas that was referenced in the book was nice.

On to the story. Jaesun and Wilder are the most opposite characters ever but they go together. I loved how Wilder basically staked Jaesun after their first meeting. And how Jaesun was so instantly awestruck he didn't know what to do.

This book had it all bullets, kimchi, knotting, crazy Canadians and babies being delivered in kidnapping vehicles. Book 4 was a great read and I'm looking forward to seeing where she goes from here. I hope Orion gets his book and I'm not going to turn down a book about Serbelius.

I really liked this. Despite his views on his mating, once he found his, he was all in. Jaesun needed help and he was willing to protect him and his family and do what needed to be done to eradicate any threats and reunite the family.

This is the fourth book in the series, but I think it could stand alone well.

I have said it before and I will say it again. With all the technology in our world, they need to make books interactive. So if you want to smack someone you can lol. Shew. I’m ready for these Protector assholes to go away for good. It’s bad enough to go after the shifters as adults, but taking out packs and families, but worse, the children. Yeah, I want to reach in and throat punch someone. I love these series. I love how they all intertwine with each other.
Jaesun didn’t want to out these shifters. He didn’t want to report a damn thing. Especially once he met Wilder later on and felt the chemistry between them. But he had no choice. They were holding his family hostage. He had to report and publish what he was learning or they would kill his family. When Wilder met Jaesun, he knew something was up. He could see the panic attacks. Taste the lies Jaesun told. He knew something was off but before he could get it all out, his mate was attacked. But once they finally ALL heard the whole story, it was time to take action. No more mister nice guy and staying hidden and cool. It was time to bring the pain. Especially when other mates and children were kidnapped and people were being shot. Wrong thing to do with a bunch of shifters. They are doing their best everywhere to try to put a stop to this mess, but the Protectors have a long reach. All Wilder wants is his mate safe at home with their baby. But it will be a while before they are all safe.
Jaesun is the one that got me in this book. I’m telling you, I love these little omega types. They just tickle my heart. They have a strength and power like no one would believe. Even when frightened and in the middle of attacks. But this story got me more, because it was more than just Jaesun that got to me. Link needs something so bad. Losing everything the way he did in the last story and then all this happening has just left him a shell of what he was. And then there’s Wilder’s best friend, Orion. Now that Wilder is mated, Orion is ready to run. He doesn’t see or care to see how bad he’s hurting Wilder. This book will leave you torn in a lot of ways. Not just from the packs but from Jaesun’s own family. It was hard going there as well. It seemed like the world was against everything anyone tried to do. The simple sad part, all Jaesun wanted was to be loved and have his family safe and sound. He wanted someone to accept him and his quirks. And when he finally found it, everything was conspiring to break them apart, it seemed like.
These books just tear me up. All of these series just intertwine and I see old and new faces and I love every bit of it. Even the rough parts. I love these characters and seeing how far they’ve come. Especially Chuey. But everyone of these guys has a special place in my heart. They all act like goobers half the time, but they’ve got hearts as big as the sea and just want to be with their families. I can’t wait to see what and who is next. For there are two certain men who need to finally have some peace.

The Protectors of the Pure felt a little less sinister and more disorganized in this book than in the previous ones. And with as much interest that they showed in the Noel/Hope area by sending Jaesun there, it seems to me to be a bit odd that the shifters weren’t more suspicious of potential plots around them from other fronts.

I would have liked to have seen more about how/why the PotP targeted the Park family and Jaesun in particular. Why did they switch tactics in this book, is it foreshadowing actions to come? Do they know about Sibelius and his group’s work, or do they just assume that their cells are repeatedly incompetent when faced with shifters that they aren’t poisoning? Why don’t the shifters put on more of a charm offensive knowing what the PotP are planning?

I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.

Very enjoyable read and a great addition to the series.

Jaesun Park finds himself in a really tricky, dangerous situation. His father and grandfather have been kidnapped by a bunch of dangerous crazies and their lives depend on him betraying and endangering the shifter packs that he's had to (try and) infiltrate. His predicament is made even more impossible when it turns out that he's the mate of a hybrid shifter... Wilder.
Jaesun is adorable, clever and sweet. I loved his dedication to his family and his easy acceptance of being mated to a shifter and all that that entails.
Wilder is big and strong, caring and protective of his mate, basically all the things I love about alpha shifters. He's very devoted to Jaesun and so earnest in trying to help him deal with his anxiety issues, that makes for some very endearing scenes!

It's always a pleasure to reconnect with the other members of the packs as well. Prickly Garth will forever be a favorite of mine! Can't wait to see what will happen to Orion. I hated to see his friendship with Wilder suffer so.

This is a fluently written story with all the elements a good shifter story needs: fated mates overcoming any and all obstacles to their union, action and suspense because of the threat posed by the evil & fanatic Protectors of the Pure, and last but not least, a sense of family thanks mostly to the packs, but in this case also because of Jaesun's close-knit Korean family.

I was very pleasantly surprised by the fact that one of the heroes was Asian-American. All the references to the Korean tv-series were very intriguing. I'll have to check those out!

Sweet and wild

I just wanted to hug Jaesun from the very start of the book. Kiki writes an incredibly realistic anxiety prone character. Someone who's anxiety doesn't just come from situations but from damaging inner dialogue and unseen worries. I'm glad she didn't go for the insta fix of the fated mate cures all. Not that she's ever taken that easy road with her characters. She's always kept them relatable, realistic, and consistent.

Jaesun has some real problems in the form of the "Potect the Pure" bigots kidnapping his father and possibly his grandfather. To save them he's expected to write controversial articles about shifters. As you may expect nothing works out quite the way he had planned.

Wilder meets Jaesun in the process of trying to correct someone's impression of what he said. He's pretty sure Jaesun is his mate but he's spent so much time making fun of the other alpha's having found their mates that he just can't believe it at first. He's gonna need to figure this out quickly because his new mate can't seem to keep himself out of trouble.
Jeasun is attacked by a lion and later by a Canadian. He steps in between a dragon and Wilder having a disagreement and protects two babies from the PTP. He stands up to his mother and puts his ex in his place. Then later he delivers his daughter during a gun fight (Chuey rocks!). He maybe a bit of a mess at times but he's the perfect mate for a hybrid shifter!

This is another great addition to this wonderful series. As always it is well-written, fast-paced, has amazing characters, an intriguing storyline and I could not put it down. I love Jaesun and his love for his family. He is doing everything he can to help his father and grandfather even if it means having to chose between his family and his newly discovered mate. Jaesun doesn't know a lot about shifters and he is worried that no one will be able to deal with his anxiety and other quirks. Wilder is shocked when he finds his mate and he is in the impossible position of having to decide between protecting his pack or his mate. They are great together but they have a lot of seemingly insurmountable obstacles in their way. There is a lot of action packed into this story along with an interfering mother, the threat from the Protectors Of The Pure and a pack trying to protect their mates and children. I love the secondary characters, the ending is great and I can't wait to read the next book in this entertaining series.

This one is give me a new environtment, I like a pair of very-organized-in-everything (I really love Jaseun!) and a wild type man. It's funny to saw how Wilder tried to keep up with Jaesun because he loved Jaesun so much. They make a good couple. I also like the point of the story, about blackmail and etc. I'm a little sad because in the end Wilder and Orion still didn't make up ;(. I hope there will be a story about Orion or Fritz and Link~But I think, I like a story about Sage and Thorne more than this, because they have a more complicated problem and also a complicated relationship, while Jaesun and Wilder have a more smooth relationship. But after all, I really enjoy the story and can't stop laughing whenever I read how Jaesun introduce their home to their unborn child lol. Also can't stop shivering when read a labor process :"

Thank you for made a cute and uniq character like Jaesun! I love him and everything about him very much!

It was a pleasure to read this extremely good, entertaining Mpreg romance.
This book is about: a young Korean man (Jaesun) forced to spy on shifters at a campground. He comes into contact with a hybrid shifter (Wilder) who realizes that Jaesun is his mate & that he has hidden secrets.
There is: various kinds of shifters, hybrids, a propaganda group (Protectors of the Pure), twists & turns, suspense, intrigue, action, prejudice, danger, enemies, secrets, blackmail, threats, devious plans, deceit, lies, memories, mates, panic, fear, jealousy, mates, surprises, attacks, abduction, rescued, happiness, love and a few steamy scenes.
The plot is suspenseful and the story-line is well-written with the characters displaying realistic emotional feelings of fear, needs & desires.

Jaesun is sent by the Protectors of the Pure to spy on the shifters and write articles to alienate the human population from the shifters. If he doesn't, it may cost him his family.  Wilder is a hybrid shifter who just realized Jaesun is his fated mate. Now they must work together to keep both families safe.

The shifters are such a wonderful bunch of characters... funny, sweet, fierce in their protection. I LOVE HOW Wilder celebrates his mate instead of trying to change his "quirks".

I received this book as an Advanced Readers Copy and am voluntarily leaving my honest review and recommendation.

Jaesun’s finds himself stuck in a no win situation - can he do what needs to be done to save the ones he loves? What will he find along the way?

Wilder and Jaesun have a very rocky beginning but Wilder stands by his mate; helping him by becoming his strength. I adored Jaesun - I just wanted to hug him every time his anxieties went overdrive.

A great addition to the series and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it.

Another great book !

Blackmail, lies, death, and birth it's all here. When prejudice raises is nasty head innocence is the first thing to be sacrificed. But when a mate is involved it just gets that much more difficult to find a solution.

Ms Burrelli has once again turned the simple act of putting words to pepper into a spectacular story for us to read! I loved this book from the first chapter and hope to here more about them in the future.

I really liked Under His Cover. I liked the premise of spying inside a group of shifters who can sense things. You know it’s going to be fun seeing what Jaesun will do when the shifters, especially Wilder can tell what’s real or not. And I really liked how Wilder accepted all parts of Jaesun. I thought bringing in Jaesun’s Korean culture was great. The romance between the two was sexy and hot, they are definitely a sweet couple and I enjoyed their story. I would recommend this book.

Love this book so much!

Kiki is Ana amazing author. I hadn't read a book yet by her that I haven't loved and this one is no different. I love Wilder and Jaesun. They make a great couple. I love how Wilder reacts to Jaesun and his anxiety. I wish everyone reacted that way. I highly recommend reading this book and the rest of the book in the series.

A great addition to this wonderful shifter series. Wilder and Jaesun are wonderful together and I really like that Wilder could see through Jaesun's deception and realize the reasons behind it and protect him from the rest of the pack. I really felt for Jaesun and everything that he was going through. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book.

Jaesun is sent by the enemy to write a series of articles on the shifters. However, he isn't a really good spy and within minutes of arriving just happens to bump into Wilder.
Wilder isn't to crazy about mates but once he realizes Jaesun is his mate there is no stopping him from claiming him.
Things start to heat up with the Protectors of the Pure.

Poor Jaesun has a lot to get past. He is very quirky and Wilder makes him better but doesn’t “fix” his quirks. Wilder is a beast of a man and watching him have to choose between pack and mate is hard but he makes some wonderful decisions for himself and his mate. This one has a lot of ups and downs but it’s great.

Jaesun and Wilder are an great addition to the series. Jaesun is a perfectly flawed character you can't help but feel. Wilder is loving, supportive, and mate material. The action is high towards the end but didn't feel rushed. I loved the interaction of old and new friends/pack together.

I am really loving the Hybrid Heat series and always eagerly awaiting the next new release. Under His Cover was no different and it sucked me in from the beginning.
I adored Jaesun - he gave Chey a run for his money as my favourite. Jaesun is being forced to be under cover with the shifters and write negative newspaper reports about them by the evil Protectors of the Pure. He doesn't want to but the POTP are holding his dad and grandfather hostage. The whole situation is massively adding to the anxiety he is already dealing with. And along comes Wilder. Wilder seems to be able to calm the storm inside Jaesun. I thought they were adorable and were a great character. I didn't remember Wilder much from the previous books but I loved him here. He's exactly the kind of alpha I love reading about - gruff, growly and will stop at nothing to protect his mate swoon!
I'm enjoying the Protectors of the Pure story arc and I'm intrigued to see where it's going and if the shifters can eventually take them down for good.
