I’m a walking contradiction.
School principal who liberally drops the F bomb.
Fiercely independent yet willing to auction myself off for charity.
Serial monogamist who’s down for a no-strings one-night stand.

Except now I’ve gone from one-working-ovary to co-parent in the time it took a stick to turn blue.

F. Bomb.

Ian Donovan may be a richer-than-hell venture capitalist, but he’s no Prince Charming ready to sweep me off my feet. Good thing I don’t need him. I’ve been doing fine on my own for forty years, and I’m not about to start changing that now.

Ultrasounds, swollen feet, midnight cravings? Bring. It. On.

But why is it when you finally swear off men, you meet one who’s too sexy—and determined we can make it work?

F. Bomb.

4 No Need for Glass Slippers Stars
* * * * Spoiler Free
As someone who reads a lot of Romance, it can sometimes feel like a whole segment of the population is left out. We have YA books, New Age books, and our standard Contemporary Romance books chocked full of women worried about turning 30. There has been an inching towards characters who may be 32 or so... but mainly there has been this idea that those who are in the throes of romance need to be under 35.

Well, it seems some authors and publishers are seeing a need and filling it. Entangled has decided to test the waters for those of us who are older than 35 and have created the imprint August for books having romances with characters who are more than 30. It is smart marketing because there is an audience for these books. The trick is to find authors who can bring out the romance with people who have lived more of their lives.

With Knocked-Up Cinderella by Julie Hammerle, I think they started off on the right foot. It had characters who were able to communicate clearly and had a handle of who exactly who they are.

I happened to appreciate how Erin would not let herself be classified by someone else's BS as she stood on the stage as the new principal participating in a Halloween auction for the school.
As the M.C. continued spewing how Erin liked twinkling stars, walks on the beach, and was continued addressed by Not properly, Erin took the mike out of the woman's hands and set the record straight.

It Was A Perfect Moment.

It matched how we had met her... where she was feeling like any place would have been better than getting roped into being part of this fundraiser for her new school. Trouble was, she was the principal and was expected to do these things. As she deals with uncomfortable pantyhose and aching feet in a quiet corner of the gardens, naturally the most handsome man would strike up a conversation.

Great.

In a Tux, wearing it well and he turns out he is one of the Elite who is there to donate money for the private school...Oh, and to make matters worse, he had been at the same reunion her ex had dragged her to when they were together. He remembered the little stunt she had pulled and thought it was fantastic. He had always thought her ex was an idiot, she was great and told her. They have a bit of a moment, connect a bit and then Erin is called to get in place for the event.

Ian was an old hand at these auctions. He would be the wingman for his friend who always would bid for his mother. Ian never did any bidding, it wasn't his thing. He also had no desire for this particular auction either. He had made the mistake of "dipping his wick" with a few of these women who will be up on the stage. It didn't matter he had told them and they agreed on the "rules", no relationships-just fun and basically done. Had he enjoyed women and many, sure but he always was forthcoming with what he could give.

So here is Erin on the stage, annoyed but trying to make the best out of it on Her Terms. Ian sat and watched Erin in all her glory, being a woman who she was...just out there. Then he saw who was bidding on her... all losers, some worse than others. Ian felt she deserved better...and before he knew what he was doing, he put up an outlandish bid and won her.

Erin did not know what to make of all of this...she is pulled aside by her friend and a fellow teacher telling her not to sleep with Ian no matter what. He is sexy but bad news. Erin listens, takes in all of the advice, and shares she gets it, no worries.

Well, by the title of this book, you know they slept together and there was a surprise event happening. What is different is the backstory Erin had about wanting to be a mother and how she and her ex were not able to make it happen. The other piece of this tale is how Ian thinks he could never be a decent husband or father...but somehow all of this is proven not to be the case.

This is not your usual story with no communication and all sorts of hiccups... these people believe in talking to each other. There is low angst happening but it all gets resolved. It was a good twist on a tried and true story of a surprise baby. I happened to enjoy it and look for more from the author and Entangled's new imprint August.

Overall Opinion: I hate writing this review because I didn't love it. It came recommended to me by a sweet GR friend to try to help me out of the dreaded book slump that feels never ending at this point. Don't get me wrong -- I didn't hate it either! I just feel kind of meh about it. I didn't feel like we got nearly enough (or hardly any) time with them in a relationship, and I wanted a little more depth into the H. I, being the epi-ho that I am, was also disappointed in the amount of closure we got. Otherwise, I can see where many readers might really enjoy this! It was pretty low drama and it was a reformed playboy type H and smart, sassy h! They both were 40 too! That alone is kind of refreshing to read about at least every once in a while!

Brief Summary of the Storyline: This is Erin and Ian's story. They meet at a fundraiser for the school where Erin is the new principal and Ian is an alumnus. They have a funny first encounter, but end up spending more time together and having a hot ONS. They both agreed beforehand that it wasn't going to go farther than the one night, so when Erin finds out she's pregnant this is a big shock to both of them. There are a lot changes made to both of their lives, a few funny and sexy moments, and some baggage they have to work through...and they get a HEA ending.

POV: This alternated between Erin and Ian's POV.

Overall Pace of Story: Just alright. This felt slow at times and then too fast at the end. I never skimmed though.

Instalove: No, they take a while to develop stronger feelings.

H rating: 3 stars. Ian. He was alright. I think I just wanted some more depth into his character. The little bit of a glimpse into his friendships and parental relationships just didn't feel like enough to fully understand his hang-ups.

h rating: 3.5 stars. Erin. I think I wanted to like her more, but she just had some moments where I struggled with her a little. I didn't like how she held her previous boyfriend's mistakes against the H, but I did like her strength and sass.

Sadness level: Low, no tissues needed

Push/Pull: Yes

Heat level: Okay/low. They have some tension, chemistry, and a few scenes -- but not many and not so much it takes away from the story.

Descriptive sex: Kind of. I wouldn't say this was fade-to-black or anything, but it definitely wasn't super descriptive.

OW/OM drama: Not really

Sex scene with OW or OM: No

Cheating: No

Separation: Yes

Possible Triggers: Yes

Closure: While this did have a pretty cute epilogue and I would classify it as a HEA, I still wanted more! I wanted some time with them navigating their new world of being parents and in a committed relationship! I wanted to experience their concrete commitment to each other and maybe a farther glimpse into their future. I am reluctant to classify this as HEA because it doesn't have that concrete commitment that I look for, but I felt it had enough other stuff to make it cross that line from HFN to HEA .

Safety: This one should be Safe for most safety gang readers

What a refreshing, fun book with great humor. This is different than my usual paranormal romance, but so good. The characters are fun, relatable, react appropriately and grow throughout the book. I loved Erin, she’s the main female character. She’s intelligent, independent, knows what she wants, is use to being the boss and very likable. I love her personality. Ian is the main male character he’s a bit broken, from something in his childhood, he’s strong, driven, successful and married to his business. Travelers a lot and is a no relationship kind of guy.

Sometimes in life things happen we don’t plan on, then there’s a lot of decisions to make. A lot of mistakes are made and a lot of hurt happens.

This is certainly nothing like Cinderella, or any type of remake of Cinderella. It is a delightful, fun, refreshing book, that I loved. I highly recommend this book, if you haven’t read it already read it. This was a new Author for me, but won’t be anymore.

I liked the setup of this story - as a mature woman, I adored the fact that the leads are both 40, they have full lives outside of the romance that impact the story, and they each learn to change their lives because of their baby, putting aside the past to reach for that future. I thought the pregnancy aspect, especially considering it’s an older heroine experiencing it for the first time, was a fresh take that I don’t see eveyr day. Many times, if I read a romance with older heroes and heroines, a surprise pregnancy is the “bow” on the gift of an epilogue, not when their story actually begins and I enjoyed that.

The reason I’m not rating this higher is because of a couple of reasons: First and foremost, I’m a romance junkie and to me, their relationship was more friendship than romance. I didn’t feel that strong romantic chemistry between them. I thought they made good buddies, and generally I’m into friends to lovers romances, but that turn to romance from friendship took a loooooong time. In the pursuit of realism, I was missing some of that emotional oomph, for lack of a better term. For the majority of the story, it’s about Ian being a fuckboy (whose inner voice sounds much younger to me than 40), and Erin not giving him a chance to hurt her. Those beats are stressed in almost every scene and it got a bit monotonous for me by the end. When we’re at 88% and there’s still serious doubts they’ll ever be more than friends, the sexual tension isn’t strong, and I just wasn’t sure Ian was ready for a real romance, I stopped reaching for that dangling carrot of an HEA. Giving me two chapters, right at the end, didn’t quite satisfy my romance needs.

Which leads me to now - I didn’t hate the story, it just didn’t give me that love jones that I look for in my romance reads. However, your mileage may vary, so if you love a good old ONS turns to pregnancy trope, you may enjoy this.

I have previously read some of Hammerle's YA romances, and jumped at the chance to read an adult contemporary by her. Well, the results are in, and I loved this book!

Five Things I Loved About Knocked-Up Cinderella

1. Erin was a stupendous heroine. Her first appearance on page had me laughing, but she wasn't just funny. She was smart, witty, driven, and independent too. I could totally see myself being friends with her.

2. I had zero problems shipping Erin and Ian. I enjoyed seeing them together, because they had it all. They had great chemistry, but they also really talked to each other. They could let loose, and it was obvious how much they enjoyed their time together. Talk about relationship goals.

3. I love a good rom-com, and this was a great rom-com. I laughed so much while reading this book. Hammerle did a great job maintaining the tone of the story, while putting in just enough drama, and never forgetting to give us a good dose of heart.

4. Let's hear it for heroes and heroines in their 40s! I so rarely read romances with older characters, and it's nice to see people near my age finding love.

5 That ending was so, so precious! I love when a book ends on a high note, and this one just had me wiping those happy tears out of my eyes.

My first adult romance from Julie Hammerle was a hit, and I look forward to reading many more.

Crap! I wanted to say so much about this book....but then I read 5 others and can't remember😭 what I do remember though was that I enjoyed some parts and others not so much

h is recently out of a relationship, she decides to take a break from relationships
The H bids on her in a school function for charity
He's a known manwhore
They hookup, she pulls a HIM move(I loved that part)
He can't stop thinking about her, tries to get his mojo back and fails
Bam she's pregnant, she gives him the out as she's perfectly capable of doing things on her own
Lots of back and forth, then HEA

******
I love unexpected pregnancy/baby from a ONS
My problem was mostly theH, first of all a 40 year old HUGE MANWHORING? Seriously ewww. Then he of course had issues that actually made him consider staying out of the child's life. He worked a heck of a lot and we get instances where he really disappointed her and I was angry on her behalf. He didn't get his epiphany until almost the very end and as I'm a fan of Alpha males a hero who'd be wishy washy not only with his woman but also his responsibility to hic child just isn't for me

The h had some wonderfully strong moments but I wanted her to make him work a lot harder than he did for a place in her lifef

All in all this started off great, with one of my favorite tropes, but I unfortunately didn't enjoy it as much as I'd hoped

H was a manwhore
After hookup with h he tried to move on but couldn't(one particular scene kinda icked me out lol)
h was a relationship person and was recently single
No cheating
Pulling away by H
Slight OW drama from his ex bed buddy
Too much references to his past

*****ETA
Kinda fade to black sex scenes.....ugh wtf

This was super cute, really light and funny. This was my first read from this author and I was delighted by how smart and sharp the writing was. A bit more emotion or conflict might've elevated it a bit for my personal taste, but it truly is a light, sweet, fun read and it delivers exactly what you'd hoped to find if that's what you're looking for. This is a quirky story of a one night stand resulting in an unexpected pregnancy and the story that evolves is both adorable and fast paced. I liked it a lot and look forward to reading more from Julie Hammerle.

I will start this by saying I don't read romances. I don't read them because there is no suspense. The love interests are introduced right away, and you know they will get together in the end, no matter how many red herrings are thrown into the mix.

So, going into this, with my eyes wide open, I have to say that the writing was fresh, to me. The characters, were well formed, for the most part.

Erin is a good, strong woman, a PhD, who is the principal of the private school, of which Ian is an alumnus.

The story follows Erin's pregnancy, and Ian being interested in her, at least in her mind, because it is his kid, and no more.

There is humor. There are real women. And there is lust, and sex. If you are into romances, this is a good fun one. The voices of Erin and Ian are both quite real.

This was a cute read, but I really wanted more for Erin and Ian.

I liked how their relationship was built on friendship first, which was shaky at the beginning, but then slowly grew to something more. But I didn't feel like the friendship took a logical jump to romance since these two spent so much of the book apart and they really hadn't taken the time to truly get to know each other. It felt like that really would have been important considering they were having a child together. Instead, this couple's relationship baggage seemed to trump everything else, making it hard to believe this couple could have a HEA.

What happens when Ian Donovan, a bad boy, globe-trotting, venture capitalist millionaire coughs up $40,000 for a dinner date with an elementary school principal just to rescue her from a date with a pretentious creep? Well, they decide to have a one-night stand (because sometimes a gal just wants to step out of her control pantyhose and grab life by the baubles). Unfortunately something went wrong with one of the condoms and now our feisty, foul-mouthed heroine Dr Erin Sharpe is going to have a baby.

I have been in a book slump recently, starting and dropping so many books, dishing out 1 star DNF reviews like they are smarties, giving the kiss of death three star reviews to favourite authors, I hesitated to pick this up fearing the premise was too hackneyed - boy was I wrong. Julie Hammerle has injected new humour and fizz into the 'accidentally pregnant by the billionaire' trope. Maybe the characters being somewhat older than the usual 20-somethings made a difference? All I know is that I laughed out loud at so many of the scenes - right from the start where Erin denies liking long walks on the beach and reading poetry to her lovers in the moonlight, instead telling the truth that she loves crappy tv. Also Ian and Erin's jobs felt real, he spends so much time jetting to and from Tokyo I could feel his jet lag leeching through my Kindle, he worked long hours and was at his client's beck and call.

The only other book I have read by Julie Hammerle was a YA/NA teen crush - so very different to this book - but having sampled Ms Hammerle's adult humour I am definitely going to look for more. Also, Entangled August? Not come across that before, is it featuring older characters? Will have to look out for more.

I received a free copy of this book from the publisher via Netgalley in return for an honest review.

Bumped for release.

4/5; 4 stars; A-

This was a fun surprise. A contemporary romance with mature main characters, no manufactured drama, and a happy ending. The title wasn’t the greatest but that’s minor. This new to me author is someone I will keep an eye out for.

When I saw Julie Hammerle looking for reviews of her soon to be released seasoned romance (romance for the 40 and older set) Knocked-Up Cinderella it sounded like a story I’d really enjoy so I requested it and I’m so glad I did. Julie is a new to me author and this is her first adult romance although she has written several YA books. I loved this story of two 40 year olds who meet in an unexpected way and afterward find their night left them with a memory they’ll have forever…a child. Two professional people dedicated to their jobs find that while they thought they’d figured out their lives, a child and connecting with someone who “gets you” makes you reevaluate it all.

Erin is the type of heroine I adore; she is smart, funny, strong and capable and she has learned that she wants more from the men she spends time with. She knows she’s a good person and a damn fine catch and she is determined to find a man who not only understands her idiosyncrasies, but stimulates her both intellectually and sexually. The way she accepted her surprise pregnancy with joy and determination to be a great mom proved she is the type of woman who tackles things head on.

I’ll admit it took me awhile to warm up to Ian because while he was charming, it was easy to see he had big time issues and didn’t see any reason to change. I admire that he was dedicated to his business and his best friends and that he had a very strong work ethic, but he made a lot of missteps along the way. The thing is I could see he was interested in Erin and his unborn child yet he couldn’t admit that to himself or anyone else. For an educated man, he wasn’t very smart in the ways of relationships or expressing his feelings.

Ian allowed Erin to let go and enjoy her sexuality and in turn she showed him that it was okay to slow down and enjoy downtime at home. The fact that Erin kept Ian off balance and had him questioning the way he’d treated his conquests in the past was fascinating and a bit amusing. I did get a bit tired of Ian’s excuses for the way he acted towards Erin (and the baby), but I just kept reminding myself he was a bit of a clueless man.

Enjoyable and filled with humor, emotion, and love in addition to characters that showed growth throughout, I loved Knocked-Up Cinderella.

I saw this book on my newsfeed and the cover caught my eye. I went on NetGalley and the book sounded like something I would read and I took a chance. I have to say as soon as I opened up the book, I was laughing out loud on the first page. I LOVED Erin. She is no nonsense, funny, tells it like it is and has a good heart. Ian is your typical charming, rich playboy with tons of baggage. After Ian bids on Erin at a school auction, they agree to have a one night, no strings attached, adult night. Erin ends up pregnant a few weeks later. Surprise!

I know this is a friends to lover book but it took SO long for them to get on the same page. Ian has so many issues and I felt the book was going on and on about his issues when it should have been about the two of them getting to know each other better. I didn’t feel the passion between the couple. It really felt like two friends having a baby the whole time. I loved the premise but the execution was lacking. This is my first time reading this author and even though the book felt short in some areas, it was still an enjoyable read. Please don’t let my review stop you from reading.

Ughhhh this book was just so dang CUTE but also funny, snarky, and sexy!!

I immediately loved Ian and Erin as our main characters as well as their storyline. I also liked that they were in their early 40’s instead of the usual mid-20’s/early 30’s rom-com characters.

I had absolutely no problem reading this in just one day and I totally recommend this if you’re in the mood for a fluffy contemporary romance! The ending also made my heart practically explode from happiness!!!

It's a portrayal of a 40 year old woman who is principal of an elite school and gets pregnant after a one night stand. That it the nuts and bolts of it but the layers of who these two are we're shaped by past experiences and fierce independence. I liked the mature characters although I felt Ian was getting too old to never of had a relationship. So awful was that almost to the moment of Erin giving birth that Ian and Erin remind themselves that they don't need anyone. Not awful romantic until after then. Does have hea though.

Erin, the new principal, isn't one you'd typically associate with such a position. She drops the F bomb, of course not in front of the kids, a lot. She's independent, always has been, yet she lets them rope her into participating in a charity event for the school. Which means she must wear pantyhose and suffer being uncomfortable until it's over. Deciding hiding out is the best option, her plan is ruined by a gorgeous man who wants to talk.

Ian is there, one of the elite, to donate, and of course, Erin recognizes him from a previous event her ex made her attend. Erin made quite an impression on him that night due to her umm...entertaining stunt. Ian never bids on any of the women, though he does know some of them intimately, but they knew going in they had his attention for one night and that was it.

When Ian and Erin share a hot night together, but knowing the score, Erin has no idea she took something with her that night...his baby. Now these two must decide what's best for the life they created, not them, but it just could be that becoming a family will provide that.

Is a HEA possible with a start like this?

One-click now and follow along as two people, both believing their time together was temporary, realize how wrong they were. On a personal note, I really could've done without the image painted of Ian, he was made out to be a manwhore, one who hit it and quit it without any regrets, and the fact he'd been with some of the women at the same event as the heroine grossed me out. If I had known ahead of time the type of "Hero" he was, I would've skipped this one. Rest assured, these are purely reflections of my personal taste and not in any way of the author's talent.

2 1/2 Star Review.....

Knocked-Up Cinderella was a story of contradiction. It was funny, steamy and packed with drama and angst, but slow moving and I really had to push through. Unfortunately it was also overloaded with YA dialogue and its 40 plus year-old characters were unbearably immature. That said, Erin was fabulous, and funny as all get out, but the male portrayals were mediocre. I’m sure it will appeal to many readers, but it was just OK for me.

Erin's gone from one crappy relationship to another. In her forties and ready to take her life back, she decides that a one-night stand is exactly what she needs to take her life back. She's ready to focus on herself and have fun. However, what she wasn't expecting was for that one night to lead to her being pregnant. Especially to a man that is not only her boyfriend or husband, but to a guy who has to desire to ever tie himself down to anyone, even a kid.

Erin has always wanted to have kids but it never seemed to be in the cards for her. Obviously, her ideal situation isn't to be knocked-up by a one-night stand who's got a phobia of attachments. However, she embraces it, puts on her big girl panties and faces reality head on. I really liked that Erin stepped forward and told Ian about the baby and the fact that she neither expected or wanted anything from him. She just knew that letting him know about it was the right thing to do. She knew he didn't do relationships and that a kid would freak him out more than a clingy girl ever could. So, she gave him an out and went about her life as a soon-to-be single mother.

Ian was a character that you couldn't really hate, but you didn't necessarily love him either. I mean, he's upfront about not wanting a girl friend or even a repeat with any of his partners. He's got some abandonment issues and never wants to make a woman feel the way he felt as a boy when his mom left him and his dad. So, he lets all the women know that it's a one-night thing and moves on. So, when this spitfire of a woman not only charms him into bed, but ends up pregnant with his baby, he kind of panics. This was not the life he wants. He doesn't want anything tethering him down. His job makes him travel a lot. It takes a lot of time and dedication, and the last thing he wants is a kid, his kid, to feel like he isn't wanted. He tries to be there for Erin and the baby in a platonic way, but every now and then his fears surface and he bails. You wanted to root for him because he was clearly struggling, but sometimes it was kind of hard to due to his quick freak-outs that would leave Erin left hanging.

One aspect to this story that I really enjoyed was that the main characters in this story were in their forties. They had careers and were already secure in who they were. There wasn't any unnecessary drama. In fact, the characters tried handling all of their issues in a very mature manner.

Knocked-Up Cinderella is a really cute story about a woman who ends up after a night of fun. However, what this story has that most others miss is a cast of mature, older characters. This isn't a story filled with crazy drama at every turn. It's a down to earth story about a forty year old woman who finds herself in a position she never imagined and embraces it. I'm glad I picked this book up.

Cute!

This was a really cute story. I love how strong And independent Erin was but that she still let herself feel vulnerable when it came to Ian. I even really liked Ian, though at times I wanted to smack him upside his head for being dense. I wouldn’t call this a slow burn since they got together very early in the book but it definitely was still a drawn out, will they or won’t they kind of story. This is one of those books that feels very realistic but also provides a great escape from reality at the same time. If that makes sense. I will definitely be reading more from this author!!

This is an easy read that I flew through in just a couple of sittings. Full of laugh out loud moments, a surprise baby, and close knit friends, this is an undeniably fun comfort read!

Blurb: Ian, a totally rich playboy, and Erin, the responsible school principal decide to have a night of no-strings attached sex, but the two don’t anticipate the little surprise that comes with their one night stand.

An opposites attract, surprise baby romance that is all about Ian and Erin navigating what they really want out of life and if they can build a lasting relationship. This is a surprisingly quick and enjoyable read with strong characters, great banter, and lots of cute misadventures. An adorable and non-cheesy romance that I really loved! I want to read more from this author!

A funny, light-hearted, dual perspective, one-night stand/unexpected pregnancy romance between a middle aged woman with infertility issues. I really enjoyed this story and thought the pregnancy trope was so well done. It was great seeing another book featuring a 40 year old woman and one that was good on audio with two narrators. Recommended for fans of Lizzie Blake's best mistake or Josh and Gemma make a baby.

For the most part I enjoyed Knocked-Up Cinderella. For the most part it was funny and light but of course there's the whole accidental pregnancy that puts a strain on any relationship or non-relationship that these two seem convinced they want and need. Ian Donovan is a self-proclaimed bachelor who only wants no strings attached entanglements. No girlfriends, wives or kids in his future. Erin has only been in long-term relationships with the wrong man (men). So now after a one-night stand with agreed upon no-strings sex with sexy Ian, Erin has decided no more relationships for at least a year, she even puts a bet on it with her bestie and sister, but then she gets a positive pregnancy test.
Kind of slow and drawn out. A lot of repetitiveness, Erin not trusting that Ian will be there and a lot of Ian not sure he can be a father. But, again, for the most part, not bad.

Well, this was a sweet slow building romance about having the courage to take a chance on love. Even if you are a committed bachelor for life or someone who is deathly scared of getting her heart broken.

I rather liked that the characters are both older than the norm. It's actually refreshing reading about mature adults. Erin is a strong, independent heroine who isn't all that convinced about Ian, who might be good looking but still have to do some serious work to get her affection.

It's also nice how low on both drama and "steam" it was. Instead, it focused on the process of two people who slowly realized that they were falling in love. Nice.

This was exactly what I needed right now. A lovely, sweet, romantic story. I liked Ian and Erin a lot. I loved that they were both in their 40's (although, I have to admit, they acted very immature for their age sometimes and that annoyed me). Them falling in love was very nicely done and believable as it didn't happen overnight but it took time for their affections to grow. I really appreciated that. The only reason this didn't get 5 stars from me is the fact that I think Ian got off easy in my opinion. He was acting like such a jerk and he should have groveled more before he was forgiven. A lot more!
But overall Knocked-Up Cinderella was a nice read. It had humor, romance and good plotline. And it was just the right combination of them. Recommended.

From the moment I heard about the concept of this novel, I knew I wanted to read it. I liked the idea of older characters (~40 year olds) being romantic leads and I liked the idea that the heroine, Erin, had the agency to not “need” her baby daddy, rich man-child, Ian, and that her strength could be a source of attraction to him.

My issues are with the characterization of the protagonists in this novel. I found it incredibly difficult to believe that they were in their 40s. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVED Erin, but Ian and his friends, Scott and Tommy, were a little on the immature side. And it was strange, because it didn’t fit in with how seriously they took their business. I feel like this would have been a stronger novel if the main characters were a decade and a half younger. Another thing that struck me is that Ian’s voice didn’t jive well with his character. For example, he says:

“Tommy was my first RIDE-OR-DIE to take the parenting plunge.”

I mean, is it just me? Would a grown 40y.o. man describe his best friend as a ride-or-die. He also used the phrase BFF to describe his friends in another part of the novel.

OR

“She touched her lips to mine, and, I’m ashamed to say, I melted.”

That’s the beginning of his first ever hook-up with Erin and it just didn’t seem realistic to me, based on his characterization as being a serial hooker upper because even if he felt more for the heroine than he did with his usual encounters, that’s a very touchy-feely way for someone like him to describe that emotion.

Half-way through reading this, I had to check out this new-to-me author and it made sense to discover that she usually writes YAF and that this is her first adult romance because of the inconsistencies between especially the male characters and their voices. The story is good but there’s something a little off about the execution, but on balance, it’s still worth checking out. I’d recommend this if you’re not necessarily all about alpha male, chest-thumping, grunting sort of heroes. The premise of this novel is actually kind of original and my issues with character voices notwithstanding, I’d say definitely read this if you like strong, independent heroines who don’t take no prisoners and heroes whose good looks don’t buy them a pass and who know they have to work for the heroine’s affections.

I received an advanced copy from the publishers through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. (And being a heavy duty book purchaser myself, I’d never leave a BS review because I got it for free).

It’s been a while since I have indulged in chick lit. I forgot how sugary and cute they can be. And predictable. Boy and girl meet, things go well, throw in some drama, kiss and make up, and TADA! HEA. Simple, predicable formula. It’s kind of like watching the Hallmark channel, just funnier. Don’t get me wrong because there is nothing wrong with any of this…so long as you have all the right ingredients. Which, I am happy to say, Knocked-Up Cinderella has.

Quick run-down of the story: Erin is a school principal of a prestigious school is at a fundraiser where she is to be auctioned off as a date. She’s not a very conventional educator as she is a bit of a wild child and has a potty mouth. Before the auction, she meets Ian, richer venture capitalist who is single, has dating rules and plans on being single forever. On a whim, he buys her at the auction, they get along REALLY GREAT, bump ugly and whoopsie! have a condom malfunction. This is their story from her getting caught scratching her butt to a final HEA.

I really did like the book. It was somewhat hard not to. Erin is fairly sassy and her inner musings were entertaining. Ian has a few issues, but still likable. He’s is sold to us as somewhat of a manwhore, however, while he did have a few dating rules, I didn’t find him to be all that smutty. Their interactions both in and out of the bedroom are entertaining and I did find myself chuckling quite a bit.

I think the real selling point to the story is neither of them are spring chicks. Nope, both are in their 40s…and about to be parents. Which, is a nice change from the standard romance of twenty-somethings getting knocked-up. Erin’s friends are great and but I wasn’t quite the fan of Ian’s. As nice as they were, I found them to border on the man-child side that I’m not a big fan of. Still, their friendships, inputs and added dramas helped the story flow along.

Knocked- Up Cinderella is the first book of Julie Hammerle that I have read. It was entertaining and a nice change of pace from my regular choice of romance. It certainly reads quick and had quite a few selling points to it that I found refreshing. Definitely something rom-com readers will enjoy.

I got this book as an arc from Netgalley and Entangled Publishing so thank you to both of them for providing this arc to me for my honest review.

This book is about a 40 year old woman who is recently divorced after a bad relationship. Erin ends up having a one night stand with Ian, the town’s playboy who is married to his job. This one night stand leads to Erin deciding that she is going to stay single for a while and get her life back on track. This is all working out fine and dandy until she learns that she is pregnant. With Ian’s baby.

This book was so fun to read. It takes place from conception to birth. That’s a lot of time to cover and build a relationship between characters. I think that Julie Hammle handled this very well. There were things that happened that were missing or that were referenced that we didn’t get to see unfold but it wasn’t anything that took away from the story, if that makes sense.

I expected to go into this book with it being a 3 star read. But it wasn’t! There were points in the story where the main characters annoyed me, but that’s to be expected. I feel like this was well written rom-com and is perfect for this time of year. The beginning takes place around Christmas and despite going into the summer months, I still am really glad I read it at this time.

If you’re looking for a super quick read or a nice romantic comedy, I say go for this one. It is out now, my review is going up later than originally anticipated but that’s okay! I gave it 4 stars and I am excited to read more from this author.
