Lifting My Spirits: A Lifelong Dream Deferred No Longer - Transformation from Fat Chick to Bodybuilder After Age 50

Rate this book
Is it REALLY too late to get fit when you get into your 40’s or 50’s? Can you reverse years of self-neglect and improve your health? In 2009, a 47-year-old Tammy White was told by an emergency room doctor, “change your life or you won’t live to be 60”. She ignored well-meaning advice from trainers to accept weight gain as part of aging and menopause. She used science-based best practices to structure her self-care. Competing as a bodybuilder was a dream from her 20’s that was deferred no longer! Tammy started blogging in 2010 to document her journey and since then, tens of thousands of people have followed her on social media. In this book, she shares her story, but offers more than that. She shares what’s she’s learned about how nutrition and weight lifting can transform a person’s health. She shares tips for staying consistent with a program when motivation is low. How do you make this all work with a busy adult life? This is a must read for anyone in their 40’s, 50’s, or older who need some practical advice from someone who has done it and is still doing it.

Just one of my light night time reading on weightlifting. It was good. Kind of fluffy and geared to the beginner lifter.

A sincere account of an uncommon goal achieved.

I discovered Tammy White in 2013 when I was beginning my own fitness adventure. I have enjoyed her blog over the years and was excited to hear that she had published this book.

Tammy’s writing style is sincere and she is not afraid to talk about her feelings. This is refreshing because too many bodybuilders hide behind their wall of muscle like they are ashamed of their feelings. Body building is as challenging mentally as it is physically. I think we need to hear about those challenges sometimes.

I found the advice in this book to be practical and a good basis to start a fitness program. I will recommend this book to friends and family.

Inspiring and genuine!

Thank you Tammy, for writing this book and sharing so much of your journey! This book isn’t about a gimmick to loose weight, but is an honest practical way to start viewing weight loss as self care and how to sustain it. This is the real deal and I found myself identifying with her journey. It is truly inspirational and empowering to see someone not only reach a goal, but change their life forever.
